WA/DL retired pilot Captain Howard Warner Stokes, age 83. Captain Stokes joined
Western Airlines 05-20-1959 and retired with Delta Air Lines in 1991, based
LAX.

Howard Warner Stokes, 83, of Los Altos Hills, passed away peacefully on Nov. 6, 2014 after a long illness. He was born July 15, 1931 in Santa Monica, California, the only child of Howard Benjamin Johnstone Stokes and Josephine Warner Stokes. The family lived in West Los Angeles where Warner attended University High School, Santa Monica College and UCLA. After college he joined the Navy, receiving his wings as a U.S. Naval Aviator May 8, 1956. He served on the USS Kearsarge, a Wasp-class amphibious assault ship, in 1957. In 1959, after the service, Warner joined Western Airlines, which later became Delta Airlines. He was promoted to captain in 1968 and retired in 1991.

Warner met Sharon Lee Christopher, and
they married in June 1959. The couple lived in Los Angeles, and had three
children — two daughters and a son. The family moved to Los Altos Hills in 1969.
They became members of the Los Altos Country Club, where Warner was an avid
tennis player for many years.
He is survived by his ex-wife Sharon
Stokes of Los Altos; daughter Shelly Stokes Mogensen and husband Craig Mogensen
of Denver, Colo.; daughter Kristy Corah of Granite Bay, Calif; and son Jeffrey
Lee Stokes and wife Dianne Stokes of Saratoga, Calif. He is also survived by
eight grandchildren, Troy and Jodie Mogensen; Tyler, Ryan, and Morgan Corah; and
Travis, Kylie, and Payton Stokes.
A private family memorial was held Nov.
7. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to any Armed Services
organization.
