Obituary

Donna Helen Robb passed away March 29, 2026… just three months shy of her 90th birthday and only 79 days shy of her 70th wedding anniversary with her Prince, Jon Robb. Those were the only things Donna Robb was shy of - she led an adventurous and joyful life, filled with family, faith, friendship and love.

Born June 24, 1936 in Columbus, Nebraska, she had a happy childhood with her parents, Lilly and Billy Jarecki, and her older sister, Betty. Graduating from St. Bonaventure High School in 1954, she married Jon, her high school sweetheart, at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus in 1956. Their faith was strong, guiding them and growing through all their years.

As Jon served as a pilot in the United States Air Force, Donna served as his partner in every sense. They started their married life in France, which began travels to bases around the world. Along the way, they were blessed with four sons and four daughters. She called us “The Original Ten.” The family bloomed to include current count of 25 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

A dedicated wife and mother, Donna created a loving and supportive home wherever they landed, be it France, Okinawa, or coast to coast from California to New Hampshire with too many places to mention in between. A proud military wife, Mom kept the home fires warmly burning as many assignments took Dad away for extended periods. They made lifelong friends in the service, relationships strong to this day.

After leaving USAF active duty in 1968, they settled in Old Cottage Grove, Minnesota, as Jon started a new career with Northwest Airlines. An active family kept Donna hopping, seamlessly coordinating school, athletic and social calendars. We were always proud to share how at one point Mom had six children with the oldest being four (4, 3, 2, 2, 1 and a newborn). That statement was always followed by “and that was before disposable diapers.” Being a wonderful mother was her calling; she knew no other way.

At retirement, they moved to Pequot Lakes, MN for their next chapter. She loved living on Upper Hay Lake for thirty years with her sweetheart, the longest time they had lived anywhere. Friends and family were always as welcome as the loons up at da lake. A thoughtful hostess, her sincere goal was your enjoyment. At that, she was an overachiever.

Inspired from her mother… Mom embodied what became our family tradition of stating “Love You Round and Round and Never Stop,” symbolized by a swirl. One of her many gifts was that of unconditional love. She openly shared her pride in you, always making one feel noticed and special.

If you knew Donna Robb, you loved her. If you crossed her path, you’d remember her. Genuinely interested in you and what was going on in your life, she championed the art of conversation. Dad always said she could talk a half hour to a wrong number. Mom made and kept friends easily and everywhere, nurturing those relationships all her life.

She was amusing and creative. A believable teller of tall tales, many of her followers accepted her stories of being wedding fillers, of her mud wrestling career, of 7-Up Camp, of turning into a pumpkin and more! If you ever attended a “Sing for your Supper,” you’ll know its unique spirit. Her enthusiasm always inspired bonding over entertainment and good food. Mom so enjoyed friendly games of cards and dominoes around the kitchen table, staking your first round with quarters waiting on your bed. While not everyone’s mother is skilled at playing craps or poker in a casino - ours was. Impressive, this gal could hold her own anywhere. Mom was smart, respected, and fun to be with.

This small-town Nebraska girl travelled the world, visiting every state, plus countless countries on all seven continents. This past winter, she worked hard through health complications to earn what proved to be her final trip. As she had her whole life, Mom embraced the food, fun and card games of a family gathering in Biloxi, MS one last time. As they were to begin their journey back home to Pequot, her health took a turn for the worse. On March 29, 2026, she embarked on a different journey, one she always called “The Big Trip.” Being a person of faith, believing in an eternal life in heaven, she knew her parents, sister, two sons, David and Patrick, and her daughter-in-law Lana, would be waiting to welcome her.

Mom is survived and will be so missed by Mr. Wonderful, Jon Robb, their children: Kate (and Steve) Sames of Aurora, CO; Cindy (and Dave) Devlin of Chugiak, AK; Michael (and Suzanne) Robb of Minneapolis, MN; Mary (and Greg) Robb of Willow Park, TX; Jennifer (and Tom) Sandstrom of Wayzata, MN; Jonny Robb of Thompsons Station, TN and daughters-in-law Sharon Robb of Weaverville, NC; Jenny Robb of Meadview, AZ. As beloved Gramma, then GG, she felt blessed to have been gifted a long and happy life to know the children of her children’s children.

In lieu of flowers, the Family suggests that donations, in her name, may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. (StJude.org/donate)

We will keep Mom forever in our hearts and actions. As it should be, her life will be celebrated on Sunday, June 14 at the Wayzata American Legion Post 118, located at 949 Wayzata Blvd. We hope you will join us there between 3 - 6pm.

Wayne French Obituary

Published by Legacy on May 5, 2026.

Wayne French, a man whose life radiated faith, kindness, and a quiet strength, passed away peacefully on April 29th, at the age of 84. Born to Webster and Sarah French of Osnabrock, North Dakota, Wayne was one of five (very tall) brothers. He attended college at North Dakota State University, where he began dating his cherished life partner, Ginny Sanders. He followed his older brother Herb's footsteps and joined the Air National Guard in 1964. Wayne and Ginny married in 1966 and settled in Edina, Minnesota. Wayne enjoyed a wonderful 35-year career as a commercial airline pilot for Northwest Airlines, retiring in 2001 as an international B747-200 captain. In retirement, he enjoyed "chasing trains", following the Thunderbirds and the Blue Angels, and working on his John Deere tractor. Wayne's wit was subtle yet sharp, often sparking laughter in the most unexpected moments, and his warmth made everyone feel welcome. All dogs would gravitate toward him, tails wagging, sensing his goodness instantly. Wayne was a devoted man of God. He lived out his deep faith, daily, actively studying the Bible and weaving it into aspects of his life. Wayne is deeply missed by Ginny, his loving wife of nearly 60 years. Obituary

Clifton Charles Capell, 70, of Fayetteville, GA, passed away peacefully at home after a long battle with cancer on April 21, 2026.

Chuck, as he was known to his friends, was born on July 27th, 1955, to Clifton Powell Capell and Billie Jo Riley Capell. He grew up as the middle child with two sisters.

He graduated from Auburn University, where he met his wife, Leslie. He went on to earn a Master’s in Finance, and remained a lifelong learner and collector of ideas.

From the age of eight, Chuck knew he wanted to be a pilot. There was no greater joy for him than the peace that came while flying above the clouds. So he signed up to serve in the Air Force. There he learned to fly the planes that were his lifelong passion. After an honorable discharge, he joined Delta Air Lines where he spent his career. Over decades, he worked his way from copilot to Captain, and from working holidays to choosing the schedule and routes he liked best. His favorite routes at the end of his career let him visit Central and South America “and still come back to sleep in his own bed.”

He was an avid lover of travel and took Leslie and his girls on trips across the world. Even in retirement, he flew out to go on Safari in Africa and traveled to Japan. On the days and years, he didn’t travel, he read widely.

Chuck served on the board for the Bylorussian Mission, flying out to Belarus many times to support Pastor Andrew and the growing church, and to do work on their behalf. He was always charmed at the hospitality and warmth the people there showed him.

He married Leslie on May 26, 1979, and they shared 46 years together. They retired on several acres of land, created a small farm together, and received much joy in sharing their work with others.

He was the proud father of two girls, Alexandra and Kimberly, and two grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, his two sisters, nieces, nephews, and close family friends.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on April 25, 2026, at the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Peachtree City. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family welcomes flowers, especially daisies, or donations to the Atlanta Food Bank. Chuck would have loved the idea of people being fed in his memory.

We welcome you to provide your condolences, thoughts, and memories on our Tribute Wall.

February 8, 1948 - April 25, 2026

Suzanne writes:  I am sending the sad news of the passing of Captain Sandy Anderson, who passed away today, April 25, 2026.

Sandy was the second female pilot hired at Northwest Airlines 10-15-1979 and she retired as a Boeing 747 Captain.

Sandy was very active in helping others to achieve their aviation goals. She was a member of The Ninety-Nines International Organization of Women Pilots ( https://www.ninety-nines.org ), The International Society of Women Airline Pilots ( isa21.org ), and Women in Aviation ( https://www.wai.org/ ) where she was instrumental in establishing the endowment fund for that organization.  Should you choose to send a memorial donation in Sandy’s memory, she would have been honored to be remembered were you to keep in mind these organizations especially the Endowment Fund for Women in Aviation.

Sandy was a talented, gifted person in so many different areas: artistically, athletically, musically, in addition to her aviation skills.

She was always willing to serve and lend a helping hand where needed.

Sandy has suffered from dementia for the past five years and has been residing at The Lodge Assisted Living and Memory Care in Gun Barrel City, TX 75156. She has been in the care of her younger sister, Sharla Johnson.

Condolences and additional information can be shared with Sharla at 350 Overlook Trail, Gun Barrel City, TX 75156, voicemail or text to (214) 801-8588.

Facebook : A tribute to Captain Sandy L. Anderson, Northwest Airlines Ret.

Sandy passed away yesterday and I had news early on and took some time to process it. Sandy was one of my distant role models. I first met her in 1991 when I was then known as Janet Andersen. I remembered her name because it was so close to mine. She was ironically the Captain on the Boeing 727 taking me from DTW to MCO where I was receiving a certificate for winning the Amelia Earhart Memorial Scholarship from The Ninety-Nines.

I took it as a great sign and very good omen that I had a woman airline Captain flying me to the Woman Pilot Conference! I was able to sit in the cockpit of the 727. The pilots had been paid and that was back in the day the checks were printed and left in the mailboxes at work. So the First Officer and Flight Engineer were discussing their paychecks enroute and told me, “Go on, Janet, ask Sandy how much her pay check is…” Besides the huge paycheck, I was very happy to see Sandy was short like me.

Because WAI (women in aviation) was a budding organization, and one which Sandy supported since the beginning (I joined in 1995 even though I really couldn’t afford the dues and became member number 557) I was able to see Sandy become a check airman and then switch to the 747 and become a check airman there. In 2014 I spent time with her and Beverly Bass when I was invited to go see the ISA+21 archives at TWU (Texas Woman’s University). Over the years, whenever I saw Sandy at a WAI conference I always told her she was a role model to me. She was always a bit embarrassed and I always had to tell her the story of the jumpseat on the NWA 727. When I heard she had dementia and was asked to take over her position in ISA as the archivist, I was not surprised; her memory loss seemed to me to be going on for years, but I never minded telling her the story of how we met.

Her jumpseat was one of the first ever I was allowed to take. I was flying for an FAR 121 carrier and had specific authorization to be on the flight deck at Northwest Airlines. I will never forget Sandy and my inspirational flight with her in command. RIP Sandy. I was glad I met you.

Jim Kary Obituary

Jim Kary, 84, of Killdeer, ND, Prior Lake, MN, and Harrisburg, NC, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2026. Born on January 16, 1942, in Killdeer, Dunn County, ND, Jim is survived by his wife of 62 years, Diane Kary; his daughter Suzy Whitt, her husband Michael, and his grandchildren Zoe and Sadie of NC; his son Brian Kary, his wife Beth, and his grandchildren Emelia and Jakob of MN. He is also survived by his dear sisters: Janice Miller and husband Don; Sharon Nelson; Doreen Strom and husband Glenn; Shirley Ortman and husband Jim; Diane Fischer and husband Tom; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved grandson Carter who we know he’s now driving tractors with in heaven.

Jim was raised on his family homestead in Killdeer, ND, where endless experiences and stories of old west farm life easily equaled those in Little House on the Prairie. After marrying Diane in 1963, he graduated from Dickinson State College then joined the U.S. Navy in 1964, serving as an aviator and flight instructor with a tour in Vietnam in 1966 where he flew anti-submarine patrol in the P-3 over the Gulf of Tonkin. Jim continued flying the P-3 in the Naval Reserves, retiring as a Commander in 1985. He lived for many years in Apple Valley and Prior Lake, MN working as a pilot for Northwest Airlines until 2002. Jim enjoyed a long retirement, spending his days mowing fields, tending his horses, and driving tractors with his grandkids on his hobby farm. Jim easily shined his brightest as a pilot and grandpa. He spent his last five years being cared for in NC.

Jim will be dearly missed but we’re grateful for his long life and finding peace after dementia. The family will have a private memorial in the future. In memorium and in lieu of flowers, please consider supporting the Alzheimer’s Association.

    Obituary for Deward Kendall Hopkins

Kendall Hopkins, age 93, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 1, 2026, in St. George, Utah.

Kendall was kind, generous, and extraordinarily funny — always ready for adventure. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, he taught those around him to stay curious, lead with integrity, and show up for the people who need you. He didn’t just teach these values—he lived them every day.

Fearless in spirit, Kendall chased adventure with enthusiasm. A true daredevil, he loved extreme experiences and embraced life with energy and joy. He was endlessly creative — a published writer, avid photographer, and brilliant artist whose imagination never slowed down. He loved exploring new places, trying new things, and sharing laughter with friends.

Of all his roles, being a husband, father, and grandfather meant the most. He was a loyal friend, bringing warmth, humor, and steady support to everyone fortunate enough to know him. His kindness, integrity, humor, and generosity are the legacy he leaves behind.

At his request, we share his words:
“It has been a great journey, and I love all of you who have shared that journey with me.”

Our family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff, nurses, and CNAs at the Southern Utah Veterans Home and to Dixie Hospice. Their exceptional care, kindness, and genuine friendship meant so much to Kendall and our family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kendall’s name to the Utah Nurse Scholarship for Veteran Care, 1600 North 200 East, Ivins, Utah 84738, attention Tony Moore.

Emmett's obituary

Emmett Hahn Venning III was born on May 18, 1948, in Charlotte, North Carolina and passed away on January 23, 2026, in Apple Valley, Minnesota at the age of 77.

Emmett was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Spittle Venning; his father, Emmett H. Venning Jr.; and his son-in-law, Jeffrey A. Adelmann.  He is lovingly survived by his sister, Victoria Venning Malak, nephew Mathias V. Malak; his wife, Char Venning; and their four children, Heather (Jeffrey), Jennifer, Christopher (Kris), and Ashley (Cameron). He was a proud and devoted grandfather to eight grandchildren — Nicholas, Noah, Lily, Amelie, Sophia, Cooper, Charlie, and Emma — who knew him affectionately as “Poppy.”

Emmett and his sister Vicki were raised in Mount Holly, North Carolina surrounded by cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents who all lived close by. In his teen years, he moved to Dunedin, Florida where he worked as a lifeguard. Emmett always had a love for aviation and learning to fly airplanes.

After high school, Emmett attended Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, where he studied Aviation. Following college, he joined the United States Navy as an Aviation Officer Candidate and was stationed in Pensacola, Florida. It was there, at the Regimental Ball in Pensacola, that Emmett first met Char — the beginning of their life together. Emmett was a Captain on the 747 with Northwest Airlines where he flew internationally.

Known as “Poppy” to his grandchildren, he cherished every moment spent with them. He delighted in sharing stories, offering guidance, and simply being present. His grandchildren were his pride and joy.

Emmett enjoyed gardening, cooking, woodworking, fishing and golfing. He was also a member of a gun club. Emmett always loved having dogs around. Emmett appreciated life’s simple and meaningful moments.

He will be remembered for his drive to excel in both his work and family life. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the memories they will hold close forever.

Emmett’s life was a gift to all who knew him, and he will be deeply missed.
