Died March 25, 2013 surrounded by his Mexican family and friends at his home in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Doug was born in Grand Rapids, Mn. He was the son of Ned and Lauretta Powers. He was literally raised on the Grand Rapids airport. In high school he excelled in sports, especially football. After high school he received a special appointment to the Air Force Academy. As a cadet he had the honor of being a part of the contingent from the Academy to escort President Kennedy's body at his funeral in 1963. In the mid 1960's he followed his brother Ron and became a pilot for Northwest Airlines. In his mid 40's the beginning stages of emphysema would cause him to lose his medical and force him to retire from Northwest. Later in life he moved to Puerto Vallarta and married and raised a stepdaughter. Preceded in death by his father Ned. He is survived by his mother Lauretta, brother Ron (Sharon), sister Gloria (Tom) Blaine, sons Dan (Chelle), Scott, daughter Beth (Scott) Harris, his wife Maria, stepdaughter Millie, seven grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter. A celebration of his life will be held at Cooper's Bar in Eagan, 4185 South Robert Trail, Eagan, MN, 12 noon to 4 pm on Sat., May 11, 2013.

Notification of the passing of NWA retired pilot and RNPA member Douglas Keith Powers, age 70. Captain Powers hired on with Northwest 06-21-1965 and found it necessary to take a medical retirement 12-18-1986 due complications of emphysema and asthma. Doug passed away at his home in Puerto Vallarta MX.

 

Douglas is survived by his older brother retired NWA pilot and RNPA member Captain Ronald A. Powers Jr.

Douglas Keith Powers died March 25, 2013 surrounded by his Mexican family and friends at his home in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

He is survived by his mother Lauretta, Fallbrook, Calif., brother Ron (Sharon) Grand Rapids, sister Gloria (Tom) Blaine, Fallbrook, Calif., sons Dan (Chelle) Scott, daughter Beth (Scott) Harris, all of Burnsville, MN, his wife Maria, stepdaughter Millie, grandchildren Nathanial, Josie, Allison, Mellissa, Emily, Joseph and Jeremy, great-granddaughter Haidyn, nieces and nephews RJ, Audra, Cindy, Jason and Heidi.

A celebration of his life will be held later this summer.

NWA Capt. Warren D. Branscomb

Notification of the passing of NWA retired pilot Captain Warren Dean Branscomb. Obituary notes NWA but I think perhaps Captain Branscomb’s career started with North Central. Captain Branscomb was nearing his 82nd birthday at the time of his passing March 22, 2013.

Warren Dean Branscomb, age 81, a 54-year resident of Van Buren Township, Michigan passed away on Friday, March 22, 2013 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Superior Township, Michigan.

He was born on April 11, 1931 in Norton, Kansas, son of the late Raymond E. and Frances E. (Guthrie) Branscomb.

Warren is survived by his second wife Xiyuan, also two sons; Tom ( Lindamarie) Branscomb of Utah and Timothy (Diane) Branscomb of Novi, MI, two stepsons; Qi (Patty) Zhang of Dundas, Ontario, Canada and Max (Helen) Zhang of Lake Bluff, IL, six grandchildren; Kristie, Jeremiah, Valarie, Cassidy, Chelsea and Skylar, two step-grandchildren; Devin and Kevin, and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister Norma Robinett and three brothers; Max (Patsy) Branscomb, Don (Jackie) Branscomb, and Larry (Julie-Anne) Branscomb, and two brothers-in-law; Frank Weiser and Ralph Brooks.

Warren was a retired Northwest Airlines pilot. He was a member of the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) as well as various other aviation-related organizations. His love for aviation and desire as a young man to try a new kind of life profoundly influenced the Branscomb family through the decades. It continues to do so, as many have entered the profession. He and his wife, Xiyuan enjoyed traveling often, visiting friends and family. Warren was a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church, Belleville, MI.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Myrna of 47 years, one son Paul Branscomb, a brother-in-law Jerry Robinett and two sisters, Lea Rae and Blanche.

Faye Dahl Davis 1920-2013

Faye Davis passed away peacefully in her sleep early Sunday morning, March 24th, after a yearlong struggle with cancer. She and, her twin sister Fern Holand, were born in Hedgesville, Montana on July 10, 1920. Faye was a blue-eyed blonde with a quick smile, who lived a storybook life, first moving west where she managed the family grocery store in North Seattle, after graduating from Flathead Montana High School in 1938. In the summer of 1945 she was swept off her feet and married the love of her life, Army-Air Force officer Charles A. Davis Jr., from Hope, Alaska. He survives her after nearly sixty-eight years of marriage. They lived in Alaska for several years, after his return from the Pacific as a B-29 pilot during WWII. In Anchorage he flew as a Captain for Pacific Northern Airlines. They moved to Normandy Park, Washington, near the Sea-Tac Airport, in 1953, when the PNA merged into Western Airlines, where Chuck retired after thirty-six years of flying. Faye is survived by, three children: son Charles A. Davis, III, and his wife Patsy; daughter Nancy, and her husband Cliff Hollenbeck; son Jerry, and his wife Melissa; and a total of seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was adored by her family and a wide circle of friends, who will miss her greatly.

GILLEASE , Dennis Bernard

On November 23, 2011, Dennis Bernard Gillease , of Modesto, CA, passed away after a long struggle with Alzheimer's. Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Geraldine; his cherished children, Kelly and her husband, Jacob Hauber, and Kevin Gillease. He is also survived by his dear brother, Michael and his wife, Linda; and his dear sisters, JoAnn Januszkiewicz and her husband, William, Regina Koenig and her husband, Lawrence, and Patricia Gillease, as well as many nieces and nephews. Dennis was born and raised in East Baltimore and was the devoted son of the late Mary and Vincent Gillease. He attended Loyola High School and the United States Naval Academy. He was a highly decorated Navy pilot who served two combat tours in the Vietnam War. While serving in the Navy Reserves, Dennis also passed the California bar exam and became a practicing attorney in Modesto. His first love, however, was flying and he enjoyed a long career as a commercial airline pilot until he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. He retired from the Navy as a Captain. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Dennis was cremated in Modesto and a Memorial Mass and Inurnment services will take place at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Alzheimer's Association.

WA/DL Capt. Robert J. Allen

News has been received with the passing of WA/DL pilot Captain Robert Joseph Allen Jr., age 80. Captain Allen hired on with Western 05-01-1962 and retired at the mandatory age 60 in 1993, based LAX. I have not seen an obituary in print yet, but I believe Captain Allen was born/raised in the Chicago Ill. area, born to parents Robert and Harriet Allen. He married Geraldine Marie Bohl on April 29, 1959 in Illinois. Geraldine Marie Allen, born September 21, 1938, passed away November 15, 2011.

Interment will be at Good Shepherd Cemetery in the M Section on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at 10:00AM. Good Shepherd Cemetery is located at 8301 Talbert Ave. in Huntington Beach CA (714-847-8546).
