Elizabeth Gross Harrison, of Port Orange, Florida passed away May 30, 2014 at Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia Care Center, in Port Orange. She was born in University Park, Texas on February 27, 1932. She graduated from Highland Park High School, Texas in 1949. She also attended college at Southern Methodist University (SMU), from 1950-1952, where she was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority at SMU. Elizabeth was employed with Pioneer Airlines (later became Continental Airlines) in 1954 as a stewardess, where she met her husband, Albert who was a pilot with Delta Airlines. Elizabeth and Albert married in University Park, Texas on September 4, 1956. They have been married for 57 years where she was a full-time home maker, wife and Mother. Elizabeth is survived by her husband, Albert Victor (A V) Harrison, son, Albert W. Harrison, daughter, Dena Harrison Hulec, three grandsons, James, Zachary and Nicholas. Elizabeth enjoyed the outdoors which included fishing, boating, swimming and gardening. She also enjoyed sewing and crafting during her many years of volunteering with the church when she resided in Miami from 1956-1992, as well as in Port Orange, Florida. Elizabeth enjoyed playing cards and was a member of several bridge and bowling clubs over the years. Elizabeth and AV enjoyed traveling across the country in their motorhome, visiting family and friends. They had a wonderful life, with homes in Miami and Islamorada (Keys), Florida and also Mineola, Texas. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and will be greatly missed by family and friends. We will all cherish her wonderful memories and continue to count them as our daily blessings. She is now at peace and reunited with her Mother and Father, Delia (Kinkade) and Charles William Gross.

News has reached us with the passing of USAF veteran NWA/DL pilot William M. ‘Bill’ Cowden, age 47.   FO William M. Cowden joined Northwest Airlines 11-20-2000 and was currently flying the MD88s for Delta Air Lines, based MSP.  He lost his life Sunday while participating in an airshow in Wisconsin.  The various news article links listed below will give you more details of the incident.  Services for FO Cowden will be held Friday June 6th in Menomonie WI.

Stunt pilot who grew up in Moorhead dies in Wisconsin air show crash

MOORHEAD – A stunt pilot who grew up in Moorhead and became the first in his family to graduate from college was killed Sunday during the Stevens Point Air Show in Wisconsin, making him the second aviator with local ties to die in a plane crash this year.

 

Bill Cowden, 47, was making the shape of a question mark with a YAK-55, a Russian-made plane, when it appeared he was pulling up, but crashed instead, said his sister, Kim Cowden.

 

The plane went down about 1,000 feet from the runway at Stevens Point Municipal Airport, according to the Stevens Point City-Times newspaper. The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.

 

“Bill was an experienced pilot, so you wouldn’t think those things would happen,” said Dick Walstad, who’s on the board of directors at the Fargo Air Museum, where Cowden was on staff. “Aerobatic flying takes some special skills and a whole lot of caution.”

 

Cowden flew F-16s for the North Dakota Air National Guard, and he retired in 2006 with the rank of major. He later flew commercial jets for Delta Air Lines, his sister said.

 

Walstad said Cowden was one of 40 to 50 Delta pilots who came to the Fargo Air Museum for the funeral of Jim “Fang” Maroney, a 59-year-old Casselton native who performed in the Fargo AirSho and served as a commander in the North Dakota Air National Guard. Maroney died in March in a crash south of Knoxville, Tenn.

 

Born in Minneapolis, Cowden attended Moorhead High School and went on to North Dakota State University, where he became the first in his family to earn a college degree, his sister said.

Described as confident, charismatic and charming, Cowden was passionate about aviation since he was a boy. “He had a dream to be a pilot,” his sister said. “And he did the hard work to get ’er done.”

Cowden lived in West Fargo until about seven years ago, and at the time of his death, he lived in Menomonie, Wis. He’s survived by his 7-year-old son, Gunnar, and his wife, Heather.

Kim Cowden said he was a careful pilot with 25 years of flying experience and had been performing in air shows for over 10 years.

“If there’s anything that gives a little bit of solace in this time, we know he died doing something that he loved,” she said. “He wouldn’t have wanted to go any other way.”

Vietnam war veteran, NAL/PAA/DL pilot John Richard Pottinger

Please forgive if duplicate information but we have just recently received word that Air Force veteran retired NAL/PAA/DL pilot John Richard Pottinger passed away two years ago.  John first hired on with Delta Air Lines as an agent.  He left Delta to join National as a pilot 01-01-1979, made the mergers with Pan Am and Delta, and retired with Delta Airlines.  The January 1999 issue of DeltaDigest notes 20 yrs of service and lists him as Second Officer based ATL/030. 

John passed in June of 2012, the social security death index lists June 15 as his date of death whereas the Veterans cemetery notes June 11 as his date of passing.

BEAUFORT, S.C. — Charles Warren Price Jr. of Beaufort and Bridgton, Maine, died Thursday, May 29, 2014, in Columbia.

He was born Oct. 15, 1940, in Miami, to Charles Warren Price Sr. and Margaret Robbins.

Warren grew up as an avid outdoorsman in the South Florida Everglades and Keys. He attended Miami Edison High School, where he played football. He was given a football scholarship to Virginia Polytechnic Institute to play quarterback, where he broke records and earned numerous awards. He was a member of the German Club and Delta Kappa Epsilon, graduating in 1963 with a bachelor's degree in business. He married Barbara Philips Price on March 11, 1963, in Asheville, N.C.

 

Warren joined the U.S. Navy, where he flew the E-1 and E-2. He was a landing signal officer for his squadron aboard the carriers Essex and Lexington. He also played quarterback for the Navy Goshawks.

 

After leaving the Navy, he was a pilot for Delta Airlines for 31 years. He flew the DC-9, the 727 and retired as a captain on the L1011 in 1999. Following retirement, Warren and Babs moved to Beaufort, where they purchased and operated Plums restaurant downtown.

 

Warren loved to be active and outdoors. He coached his sons in Pop Warner football, skied in the Maine winters, and played tennis, handball and racquetball. He loved to fish and spearfish. A true jack-of-all-trades, he could build or repair most anything and was especially proud of his woodworking, building beautiful pieces of furniture and taking great joy in giving them to family and friends.

 

Warren's biggest passion was wild turkey hunting. He was a lifetime member of the National Wild Turkey Federation, known for counting the days until turkey season began. He loved to plan and take trips with his hunting buddies. He considered attaining The Grand Slam, Royal Slam and World Slam of turkey hunting some of his greatest accomplishments in life.

 

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara "Babs" Price; daughter Robin Ragland Price; sons Lantz Philips Price and Brett Warren Price and his wife, Stacey Brackett Price; grandchildren Taelor Philips Rubin, Sydney Haden Rubin, Tanner Warren Price, Haley Ragland Price, Hayden Charlotte Price and Grayson Rhodes Price; and three stepsisters.

 

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Evan Warren Price.

Passed away either yesterday, May 28 or today May 29. I'm not sure from what but he did have Parkinsons disease and has been in a lot of pain for years after a couple of back surgeries.  We shared the same birthday! I bet y'all didn't know that he was a college quarterback and was taken in the NFL draft by the Broncos but passed it up to go flying in the Navy.

Mr. Joseph Robert Oliver, of Dothan, AL passed away, Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Flowers Hospital. He was 76.

 

Born August 17, 1937 in Rotan, TX to the late Milford Edwin & Stella Smith Oliver, Mr. Oliver’s main interest was flying, where he flew in his Cessna 172 many times. His career was devoted to the aviation industry. He was a huge fan for the San Francisco 49ers, and was a member of the Dothan Elks Lodge 1887. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Oliver of Dothan; his daughter, Terri (Mark) Jenkins of Albuquerque, NM; step-daughters, Tammy (Ed) Stuart of Dothan; Susan (Jeff) Barrett of Dothan, and Sherry (Timmy) Ward of Dothan; son, Tony (Shirley) Oliver of Yorktown, VA; brother, Ed (Susan) Oliver of Santa Cruz, CA; his grandchildren, Erin Scalise, James Spence, Samantha & Elizabeth Oliver, Curtis (Heather) Stuart, Laura (Ben) Pippin, Bailey Barrett, Drake Ward, and T.J.
