___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our PCN Flight West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Contributor contact info is generally removed before posting (unless requested otherwise).

I would like people to know that CR was a Golden Gloves Champion at 17 yrs of age,  joined the military at 18,  Paratrooper, 82nd Airborne, enlisted and then recalled...was a Miami fireman and during that period, worked for his own pilot license hours, privately while working full time supporting himself.
He was a vocal political activist and wrote the White House on a regular basis! He volunteered in the community, many times played Santa Claus for Head Start, was a foster parent, and together we housed 4 teenagers 2 babies, and 4 toddlers!! LOL not all at the same time! Mentored young boys in sports and gave them guidance through out high school, directing them to make good choices. One of those men now is a Captain for United. Chris Carlson, and CR was like a dad to him! He loved to talk politics and discuss the stock market.
He was a kind neighbor, always shoveling neighbors driveways and was a secret Santa, driving around at Christmas giving away 100 dollar bills to strangers! He ran numerous marathons in Colorado, and logged over 30K miles, as he started running when he was in his 20's..
We neglected to add any of these details, as we both were crying too hard when we wrote his OB. If there is any way you can add some
of this to his published memory, we would be so grateful. Thank you, Mark.

WA/DL Frank Lynn Faulkner, husband of Carol

~ IN MEMORY ~

WA/DL retiree Frank Lynn Faulkner

January 13, 1937 ~ July 4, 2015

Yesterday my husband Frank lost his battle to lung cancer.  For the years we were lucky enough to have together, I am eternally grateful.

Frank was born on the Ft. Hall Indian reservation in Idaho.  His momma said Frank was always a happy baby and his parents raised him up to be a tough ol' hard working ranch kid with common-sense smarts.  Frank was proud of his heritage and his down-to-earth roots, he was a jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none and I-can-do-it-myself kind of guy.  By age five Frank was already wearing his aviator's cap.  He hired on with Western Airlines in Idaho 07-21-1958, also worked in HNL and retired 04-01-2001 in PHX with Delta Air Lines.  Maybe you didn't know that Frank had his private pilot's license, played football and the saxaphone in high school, was on the roping team during his Montana State college days, had beautiful hand writing, enjoyed gardening/photography/cooking, took me square dancing and picked me flowers out of our backyard.  He was a man of very few words  but his actions spoke volumes.  Frank would say "I'm an open book" (albeit sometimes those pages had to be pried open!), and he always enjoyed a good visit over a cup of coffee (known to slip Jack Daniels into his morning brew!).

Frank is survived by a wonderful family ... siblings, children, grand- & great-grandchildren, nieces & nephews .... survived also by a plithera of loyal true-blue friends ... and by me his wife who he spoiled terribly.

As were Frank's wishes, there will be no local services.

Inurnment will be at a later date in Idaho.

Thank you for your friendship, love and support...it has meant a lot to both of us.

October 10, 1936 ~ January 1, 2015

Fred's Obituary

Fred Fisher passed away January 1, 2015.  Fred had Lewy Body Dementia for the past ten years.  Sonja Fisher, Fred's wife, assisted Fred as much as possible and together they moved into an assisted living facility in San Leandro, CA – the location chosen to be close to their daughter, Sharon Burke which would become instrumental in helping Sonja deal with the difficulties of her husband's disease.  Fred has been under Vitas hospice care for the past three years, which is remarkable, but as the New Year turned, Fred took a turn for the worst and passed away on New Year's Day.

Fred began his aviation career in the Air Force.  He graduated in class 62-H at Vance AFB in Enid, OK along with his soon to be life-long friend: Braniff pilot Dale Cross.  Right after pilot training both Fred and Dale took part in a NASA project at Lockheed in Marietta, GA then Fred was assigned to fly the WRB-50 in Japan.  Fred was hired by Braniff in 1966 and was still there when they turned the lights out in 1982.  Fred spent a year helping his friends find flying jobs before Sonja finally convinced him to find a job for himself.  The new job was Republic Airlines in 1983 which of course turned into Northwest Airlines just 3 years later.  Fred enjoyed a wonderful career until taking his age 60 retirement in 1996.

The Fishers had been living in Palmetto Bay, FL during his Braniff days when he was flying DC-8s to South America.  They still maintained the family home as their permanent residence even after they moved close to their daughter in California.

Fred is survived by his wife Sonja and his son Andrew and daughter Sharon Burke and some grandkids.  He was 78 years old when he passed away.
