Allen Byrd Price

The greatest father in the world passed.

Allen Bird Price, a native of Bogue Chitto, MS and resident of Fairhope, died Thursday, March 12, 2015 in Foley, AL.  He was 88 years old.

He was a blessing to everyone and greatly beloved, kind, generous and caring. A proud World War II Army Air Corp Veteran, he retired from

Delta Air Lines and was a Master Mason.

Mr. Price was preceded in death by his bride of 50 years, Mary Gene Price (1927-2002); parents, Riley Simpson & Lena Mae (Byrd) Price; and brother, Riley Price, Jr.

He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Price of Foley, AL;  son, Mike Price of Woodbridge VA;  daughter-in-law, Tatiana Soldatenko of Woodbridge, VA;  granddaughter, Elvira Soldatenko of Woodbridge VA; and sister, Margaret Heglin.

Graveside Services for Allen Byrd Price of Foley are Monday, March 16, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Price died March 12, 2015.
Riverwood Family Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.

John Sherman Kern, age 72, of Bluffton, SC died September 2nd, 2015 after a long battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Selma and Kenneth Kern, and brother Ken Kern. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Marie (Mancini) Kern, son John Kern, daughter-in-law Kimberly Kern and daughters Elizabeth (Kern) Christensen and Amanda Kern, in addition to his four grandchildren Ashleigh, Paige, Caroline Kern and Emily Christensen, all residing in Fairfax and Arlington, VA. John was born October 6, 1942 and raised in Moon Township, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Moon Township High School and Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, PA. He entered the military in 1966 after flight training, and served in Vietnam as a Pilot of the OV-1 Mohawk Intelligence Aircraft and Infantry Officer Leader, where he received the Bronze Star, Air Medal with 21 Oak Leaf Clusters, and Vietnam Distinguished Service Cross. John joined Northwest Airlines as a Pilot in 1971, and for the next 30 years worked for the airlines and FAA in various capacities. While in the FAA he became the Director of Flight Procedure, Training and Standards, and Service and Deputy Associate Administrator for Aviation Standards. At Northwest Airlines he was the Senior Vice President of Operations and Chief Safety Officer, all while continuing his passion for flying whenever possible. John retired in 2001 in Sanibel Island, FL. and Arlington, VA. While he still continued to improve airline safety and efficiency, he found more time to enjoy cruising on his boat on the Intracoastal Waterway from the Chesapeake Bay to his home dock in Sanibel Island, FL., and traveled frequently with his wife Marie. John and Marie most recently resided in Sun City, SC and frequently traveled to Northern Virginia to visit their children and grandchildren. "ACE", as he is known to our family, was a loving, generous, devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother in law, and friend. His optimism and positive spirit will be greatly missed and never forgotten. A memorial service will be held at St. Andrews Chapel, Pinckney Colony Road, Bluffton, SC on Saturday, September 5th, 2015 at 1 o'clock pm. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice Care of the Low Country. An additional service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, with a time and date to be determined.

Ephraim Wilson Hall

HALL Ephraim Wilson, 81, of Bedford, MA and Cookeville, TN, passed away at 2p.m. Friday, September 18, 2015, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in West Roxbury, MA. He was born in Brooklyn, NY, son of the late Abraham and Isabel (Armstrong) Hall. He attended Queens College in Queens, NY, and served in the United States Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (“Rosie”). He was an airline pilot for Northeast and Delta Airlines. Ephraim was active in the men’s community at Grace Chapel in Lexington, MA. He constantly worked to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit, and enjoyed sharing the Word of God with others. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 10:00 AM at the Plum Island Airport. Captain Hall Joined Northeast on May 02, 1966 and retired from Delta on October 01, 1979.

   ..................Ephraim's former wife and two of the daughters came by today and agreed to a time to celebrate his life:

Saturday, October 17th, 10 AM at the Plum Island Aerodrome (2B2).  For those that would like to come early, there will be a pancake breakfast in the hangar starting a 8 AM.  We hope to have a keyboard player to help us with a couple of hymns and Irish songs.

I hope that you'll be able to give us a rough idea of those that may opt for the breakfast (planning purposes)...................

Joseph H. STEWART passed away peacefully at home Friday evening August 21, 2015, age 91. Born in Olathe, KS to Harry Stewart and Dorothy Nelson on February 21, 1924. He graduated from Naval Flight Training at Corpus Christi, TX in 1944. He flew the Grumman F6F Hellcat out of Melbourne, FL. Due to injuries he did not serve in WWII. In 1946 at Savannah, GA he join the Merchant Marines. After returning home to Olathe he met Barbara Sheets whom he married in 1950 before being commissioned aboard the Essex-class aircraft carrier "USS Boxer" with the flight squadron "The Bitter Birds". He flew a Vought F4U-1 Corsair as a Lt. Senior Grade during the Korean War. In 1953 he joined Chicago & Southern Airlines as a commercial pilot before it merged with Delta Airlines. He flew copilot on Douglas DC-3s, continuing on flying for Delta as a First Officer on DC-6s and DC-7s. He was furloughed in 1954 from Delta. Moving to Miami the same year he joined National Airlines where he achieved Captain status at age 35 flying Convair-340 and 440s out of the NYC base in 1959. Over the years he flew many variety of aircraft including the Lockheed Electra and Boeing 727. He ended the list qualifying as Captain on the McDonnell Douglas DC-10 in 1976 while based in Miami, FL. He remained in Miami with National Airlines until it merged with Pan American Airlines where he continued flying DC-10s as Captain. In 1984 he retired from PANAM. His wife predeceased him in 1995. Later moving to Southwest Ranches, FL he married Laura Driskell in 2005. After retirement he continued his life-long hobby of rodeo tie-down calf roping, acquiring his last cowpony at age 85. He is survived by his wife Laura, his daughter Marsha Brentlinger, his sons Randy and Joel Stewart, their spouses, children, and grandchild, plus his sister Jean Thompson, and her family. His ashes will be inurned in Arlington National Cemetery, VA in the spring of 2016.

Carlton Ray Bankston, 75, of Holden Louisiana, passed away at his home on August 31, 2015 after a long and courageous battle against cancer. Mr. Bankston was born on November 20, 1939, in Holden, Louisiana. He was a member of Magnolia Baptist Church. He graduated from Holden High School where he achieved all-state honors in basketball, a sport which he enthusiastically taught his two sons. After high school he joined the U.S. Marine Corp. He went through basic training in San Diego and served tours of duty in Hawaii and the Mediterranean. Mr. Bankston stated the Marines were easy after enduring the challenges of farming in south Louisiana and playing basketball for Alton Leggette. Following his service in the Marines, he began a 39 year career in the airline industry working for National, Pan American, and Delta Airlines. During his career with the airlines he resided in Miami, New York, and Atlanta, but always kept his "home" in Holden. Working for the airlines allowed Mr. Bankston to easily pursue one of his joys of life which was traveling. Always planning a trip, he visited all 50 states, along with Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Upon retirement from Delta Airlines where he served as a flight dispatcher, Mr. Bankston returned to Holden to pursue his other joys: gardening and visiting with family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy Wagner Bankston; sons, Steven Ray Bankston (Kymberly) of Birmingham, Alabama, and Stuart Lyle Bankston (Rebecca) of Holden; grandchildren, Barnes Ray Bankston, Carter Bankston, Christopher Bankston, Myia Bozeman (Derrick), Tyler Bankston, McKenzie Bankston, Gauge Bennett, and Kati-Grace Bankston; sisters, Annette Wagner Harvey and Fayrene Mitchell; sister-in-laws, Shirley Bankston and Mildred Bankston; along with several nieces and nephews. Mr. Bankston is preceded in death by his parents, Hollis Ray and Erma Howze Bankston; as well as brothers, Byron and Geron Bankston. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation for Mr. Bankston from the chapel of Brandon Thompson Funeral Home, Hammond, on September 2nd, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Howze Family Cemetery, John Barber Rd, Holden.
