Notification with the passing of retired Western/Delta pilot and mayor Captain David Ted Eyre, age 71.  Captain Eyre joined Western Airlines 09-25-1978 and retired with Delta Air Lines in 2005.  He was elected Mayor of Murray, Utah where he has served in that position since January 2014.  Captain Eyre is survived by his wife Ruth, their children and grandchildren.

Services will be held at the Murray South Stake Center, 5735 S. Fashion Blvd., Murray, Utah, on Thursday, August 31st at 11:00 AM. Friends and family may call on Wednesday evening from 6:30-8:30 PM and on Thursday from 9:00-10:15 AM, both at the church. Interment will follow immediately at the Murray City Cemetery.

Mayor David Ted Eyre, beloved husband, father, brother, son and friend passed away peacefully at his home in Murray, Utah, surrounded by his loving family on August 25, 2017. He was 71 years old. Born August 14, 1946, in Rawlins, Wyoming, to Trulan Orlando Eyre and Louis Catherine Allen Eyre, the youngest of four children.

Ted grew up in Cheyenne, Wyoming, graduating from Cheyenne East High School. He attended Brigham Young University and San Bernardino Valley College, where he received his degree in Aviation Science.

Ted had many passions. His zeal for life was infectious. Two of his greatest passions in life were aviation and people. Both guided him to achieve all of his accomplishments. After enlisting in the U.S. Army, Ted served a tour in Vietnam where he flew a U-21 Ute transport aircraft in the aviation division of the Signal Corps. While attending flight school in Northern California, he met Ruth Peters and fell in love with his sweetheart. Together they built a life of love and support for each other, which would include a 40-year marriage and raising four children.

Ted followed his childhood passion for aviation by becoming an airline pilot for both Western and Delta Airlines. He excelled as a pilot, holding the position of captain for many years before retiring after a 30-year career. Ted's zeal for life continued after the airlines, first by accepting the call to serve as bishop of the Meadows Ward of the Murray Utah South Stake, a calling he loved deeply because of the people he served. His humility and dedication to serving others made him approachable and beloved by his congregation.

On January 7, 2014, Ted was elected by the people of Murray City to become their mayor. Ted's love for the city, its heritage, people and future lead him to become one of its most beloved servants. His impact on the city of Murray both publicly and privately will always be felt. Ted loved all aspects of civic life. His love for the city employees and the Murray residents made him a joy to work with. His humor made him authentic and his dedication to true progress made him an effective leader.

Ted was a story teller. Every day was an experience to be with him. Each day when dropping his children off at school he would always say, "Remember, don't have a good day, have a great day! I love you." Friendships came so easy to Ted; it seems everyone he met immediately become a close friend. He was a father to us all, a hero to his family and will always be missed. The knowledge that he is now with his Father in Heaven and other loved ones reassures us all that we will be together again. We love you, dear father and friend.

Ted is survived by his wife, Ruth; their four children, David (Brandy) Eyre, Shellie Eyre, Amanda (Adam) Faraone and Edward (Rachel) Eyre; five grandchildren, Isabella, Grace, Harper, Maddy and Mckayla; one great grandchild, Kai; brother, Gary (Suellan) Eyre; sisters, Janie (Jack) Romick and Naomi (Doug) Lockheart; and everyone who knew him.

The Eyre family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff at the Huntsman Cancer Institute and CNS Hospice Care for their unwavering service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Huntsman Cancer Foundation.

MURRAY, UTAH   - Mayor Ted Eyre died Friday morning from complications of cancer. He was 71.

 

Eyre, who was elected to a four-year term that began in January 2014, is credited with several improvements to the city during his tenure, according to a statement from Murray administrative services director Tim Tingey.

 

According to a statement from Deputy Mayor Janet Towers, Eyre oversaw enhancements to Murray Park, the expansion of Fashion Place mall and the University of Utah Midvalley Health Center, as well as the acquisition of the Murray Theater, Murray Chapel and Murray Mansion.

 

"Mayor Eyre's mark on the city touched so many," Towers said. "He had a deep love and commitment for the city and employees. This love and commitment was displayed in everything he did as mayor."

 

According to the statement, Eyre was born and raised in Wyoming, attended Brigham Young University and received his degree in aviation sciences from San Bernardino Valley College in California.

 

He joined the U.S. Army and served a tour in Vietnam. After returning home, Eyre worked on construction projects in Colorado before becoming a flight instructor in California. He eventually became a pilot for Western Airlines, which was acquired by Delta Airlines in 1986.

 

Eyre and his wife, Ruth, relocated to Murray in 1987, where he retired as a Delta Airlines captain in 2005.

Notification with the passing of retired Delta pilot Captain Harold 'Hal" Turner Carter, age 77.  Captain Carter joined Delta Air Lines 01-03-1966 and was based Atlanta.  He is survived by his wife Terri, their children and grandchildren, plus many other friends and family members.

Captain Harold "Hal" Turner Carter, 77, of 1030 Nantahala Rd., Madison, NC 27025, passed away, August 19, 2017, at his residence. "I pick the prettiest part of the sky and I melt into the wing, then into the air, till I'm just a soul on a sunbeam." Mr. Carter was born April 28, 1940, in Rockingham County to John and Carrie Turner Carter. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and was a retired captain of Delta Airlines. Hal was a pilot for Richard Childress Racing, loved riding bicycles, visiting Nursing Homes and feeding the homeless. Hal was a member of Baptist Men Missions and was always willing to help those in need. He loved people and enjoyed life. Hal was all about his father God's business and his actions spoke for him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Tony Carter and a brother, Mac Carter; brother-in-law, Junior Willard. Survivors include his wife, Terri Nixon Carter; sons, Jim Carter, Jesse (Lisa) Bullins and Jamie (Amy) Bullins; daughters, Sherrie Carter and Chasity Carter; eleven grandchildren; brothers, Don (Betty) Carter; sister, Betsy (Victor) Carter; sisters-in-law, Jerri (Tim) Williams, Treva Willard and Katherine Moore; brothers-in-law, Dwayne (Amy) Yates and Steve (Brenda) Yates; special CNA, Janice King. News has just reached our group with the passing of active Delta pilot Captain Philip ‘Phil’ Henry McBride, age 56.  Following his military career, Captain McBride joined Delta Air Lines 11-18-1997 and was based Atlanta.  Captain McBride is survived by his wife Anne, their children and grandchildren, plus many other family members and friends.

Obituary for Philip Henry McBride ...............................

 

Lt. Col (Ret) Philip Henry McBride passed away unexpectedly in Washington D.C. on Saturday, August 5th, 2017, while in the employ of Delta Airlines. He was born on April 5th, 1956, in Mobile, Alabama.

 

“Phil” was one of six children born to an American father, Walton E. McBride, Jr., and a French mother, Lucile Finas McBride. His formative childhood years were spent in the Lorraine region of France, where his father was a civil engineer at the small American airbase of Étain-Rouvres, east of Verdun. After graduating from Garden City High School in Garden City, NY, with the class of 1973, he attended the USAFA Preparatory School at the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) in Colorado Springs, CO, and received his appointment to the Air Force Academy a year later. He played Division I soccer for the Air Force Falcons and was named all-conference his Sophomore and Junior seasons. For his Senior year, he was selected as one of seven cadets to represent the Air Force Academy in Salon-de-Provence, France, as a member of the semester-long French Exchange program between the two academies (USAFA and the École de l’Air). He was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force with the Air Force Academy class of 1978, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Sciences.

 

After completing undergraduate pilot training in 1980 at Vance AFB in Enid, OK, he was assigned to Warner Robins AFB as a KC-135 pilot. After completing training for the KC-10 aircraft, he remained a KC-10 pilot for the remainder of his Air Force career. After numerous military assignments in Georgia, Southern California, Alabama, France, and Northern California, he retired from the US Air Force as a Lt. Col with 20 years of active duty service. He began his career with Delta Airlines in 1997. At the time of his death, he was an Atlanta-based Captain on the Airbus 320.

 

Phil is survived by his French bride of thirty-seven years, Anne McBride; his son Matthew (Alicia) of Peachtree City, GA; his daughter Clare of Brooklyn, NY; his grandchildren Xavier and Louisa McBride; his sister Patricia McBride of Rockville, MD; brothers John (Sarah) McBride of Sycamore, IL, Xavier McBrideof Rockville, MD, sister-in-law Tina McBride of Denham Springs, LA; five nephews, one niece, two grand-nephews and two grand-nieces. He was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret “Minette” McBride; brother, Walton “Ned” McBride III; father, Walton E. McBride Jr, and mother, Lucile F. McBride.

 

A Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 PM, on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Peachtree City. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Gifts in memory of Lt Col (Ret) Philip Henry McBride may be made to the United States Air Force Academy Endowment, 3116 Academy Dr., Suite 200, USAF Academy, CO 80840. Jan was an Honor Graduate of Mansfield Senior High School in Mansfield, Ohio. She received her B.S. in Physical Therapy from Ohio State University and was an Honor Graduate of the United States Naval School, Officer, Women. She had worked as a Licensed Physical Therapist and was a founding partner of Northlake Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Services where she worked until her retirement in 1997.

Jan was the president of Slidell Memorial Hospital Hospice Foundation, Slidell Junior Auxiliary, Le Cotillion, River Oak Homeowners' Association and the Bayou Orthopedic Study Group, all in Slidell, LA. She was also the past recording secretary of the Ozone Camellia Club. Jan was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Patrick J. Donnelly, Captain, Delta Airlines, retired; two sons, Sean Donelly and wife, Rebecca, and Michael Donnelly; two grandsons, Brandon and Aiden Donnelly; and her sister, Helen Parker and her son, Phillip of Evanston, IL.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm at First Broad Street United Methodist Church. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm with The Rev. Joe Green and The Rev. Jack P. Weikel officiating. The graveside service will follow at 2:30 pm at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by American Legion Posts 3/265.

Donald Ray Leatham

Describing Don as "remarkable" is an understatement, but it's a decent start. Donald Ray Leatham died Tuesday, August 15, in his Gig Harbor home. Born on April 21, 1934, Donald always met what was a challenging start to life with productive answers. To help provide for his family, Don began picking fruit as a child, moved on to working in a glove factory as a teenager, then to baggage handling at what is now SeaTac Airport. Don joined the US Air Force, and became an aircraft mechanic. Don's perseverance, discipline, and love of flying compelled him to become a pilot for Northwest Orient Airline. While working as a pilot, Don earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Washington "just because". Captain Leatham happily retired from Northwest Airlines and spent his remaining years as a doting, loving "skate dad" for his adored daughter, Jessica Leatham. A celebration of life will be held each and every day by those who knew Don because he enriched and brought love and kindness to all who knew him.
