1928 - 2018
Lou Jean Larzelere, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and dear friend, passed away peacefully in her home, March 1, 2018, with her son and daughter by her side.
Lou Jean was born February 29, 1928, in Los Angeles, California, but soon, thereafter, moved to Weston, Idaho, the birthplace of her mother, Lyla A. Ray. In the early 1930's, she moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, with her mother and father, Thomas L. Ray. She eventually would graduate from Judge Memorial High School, and then St. Mary of the Wasatch College, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1949.
Not long after, Lou became a stewardess (flight attendant) for Western Airlines, where she would meet the love of her life, Captain Bill Larzelere. Together they enjoyed the people, skiing, hunting, and all that the Intermountain West had to offer. On August 22, 1953, they were married in Elko, Nevada, and then in 1955, welcomed their son, Robert, and three years later, their daughter, Anita.
In 1960, career opportunities led to the family move to Northridge, CA, where they enjoyed a wonderful life for many years and the love of many friends and family, including her stepson, Bill Larzelere Jr., as well as mom-in-law, Anita Warner. They never lost their connection to the mountains and important relationships of Utah and Idaho, and in 1970, built a vacation home in Ketchum, ID. In 1978, with retirement now in full swing and their children on to adulthood, they made the move to their Idaho home, where they would continue to enjoy many amazing friends and very active life style for the rest of their beautiful lives. In 1986, her beloved Bill went to meet the Lord, and with the love and companionship of many friends in her community, the support of her family, and, of, course, her incredible spirit, strength, and independence, she remained in their beautiful home.
Lou Jean always enjoyed an amazing creative side, with her painting and gardening, in particular. She supported and participated in the rich variety of arts and music of her community. But what she will be remembered for was the love and generosity that she shared with her family and her many wonderful friends.
Lou was preceded in death by her loving husband, William R. Larzelere III, and her parents, Thomas L. Ray and Lyla A. Ray. She is survived by her son, Robert W. Larzelere, her daughter, Anita Larzelere Nelson, her stepson William R. Larzelere IV, as well as her grand children Peter, Chris, Kyle, Kristen, Olivia, Jesse, and Christian-Michael, and her four great-grandchildren.

Obituary..............William Remsen Larzelere died Monday at his residence following a long illness.

Born Aug. 7, 1916 in San Francisco, California, he was raised in San Francisco.  He worked for Western Airlines for 33

years. He married Lou Jean Ray on Aug. 22, 1953 in Elko, Nevada. They came to the Wood River Valley in the 1970s and

become permanent residents in 1978.  He was a member of the Silver Chief, the Quiet Bird Man ... Fraternity of

the Los Angeles Hangar, the Blaine County Gun Club, the Shoshone Indian Trap Shooters, the Masonic Lodge Acacia No. 17 of Salt Lake City, Utah..................................

(May 16, 1942 - March 1, 2018)

Dale Roger Liesch was born May 16th, 1942, in Wausau, WI (a native Cheesehead!) to Ehardt and Leona Liesch. He grew up in the small town of Wittenberg, WI, and graduated from Wittenberg High School in 1960. Growing up, Dale was a 3-sport athlete, enjoying football, baseball and basketball. In 1965, he graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education. He continued his passion for sports throughout college competing in football and baseball, and was selected as Honor Athlete in 1964. Dale completed his AFROTC at St. Olaf College and entered the USAF after graduation. 

In 1965, Dale married his high school sweetheart, the former Sharon Hartleben, from Wittenberg, WI. He completed USAF Pilot Training at Reese AFB in Lubbock, TX. In 1967, Dale was called to serve his country during the Vietnam War. He flew 100 missions in the F-4C over North Vietnam, and 33 missions over South Vietnam. Dale and Sharon then headed to Vance AFB in Enid, OK, where he was an Instructor Pilot in the T-37. This is also where they began their family...Marne was born in 1968 and David in 1970. In 1972, the Liesch family moved to the USAF Academy in Colorado Springs, CO, where Dale taught Physical Education and instructed Cadets in the T-41. In 1976, he graduated from the University of Denver with a Master’s Degree in Physical Education. They completed their family when Katie was born in 1976. The Liesch family spent the next 4 years at Reese AFB in Lubbock, TX, where Dale was an Instructor Pilot in the T-38. 

In 1980, Dale, Sharon, and the kids were stationed at Kl Sawyer AFB in Upper Michigan. Dale was a KC-135 Pilot and later became Commander of the 46th Air Refueling Squadron. In 1988, he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the USAF after 23 years. His next adventure included working for Northwest Airlines as an Aircrew Training Manager in the 747-200 Program in Eagan, MN. Dale was then selected to fly for Northwest Airlines as a 727 pilot through the internal hiring program and flew until his retirement in 2002. In November of 2000, Dale was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) and in April of 2003 he received a Stem-cell Transplant...a gift of life from his sister, Marilyn. 

During a Bible-study group at church in 2004, a woman caught Dale’s eye and the rest is history. Marilyn Kressin and Dale were married in June of 2005 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Burnsville. They enjoyed traveling, volunteering, going to the movies, and watching their beloved Green Bay Packers. But most of all, their life together was all about the 3 F’s...Faith, Family & Friends. Dale is preceded in death by his parents, first wife (Sharon), and step-grandson (Donavon). He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; children: Marne (Greg) Martin, David (Sara) Liesch and Katie (Matt) Ebbighausen, step-daughters: Tonya (Rick) Caughey, Gina (Michael) Hacker, and Heidi Brunkow. Dale is also survived by his many grandchildren: Ashley, Abby, Jesse, Sadie, Sterling, Demi-Lynn, Grace, Tyler, Hanna, Eve, Zach, Hunter, Jackson, Alyssa, Aric, Anna, Ren, Benjamin, Wilson, Hannah and great-grandson, Jaxon. Siblings are Donald (Noy) Liesch, and Marilyn (Bob) Stankowski. 

Funeral Service will be held at 4PM on Monday, March 12th, 2018, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 13901 Fairview Dr. Burnsville, with a Visitation starting at 2PM prior to service at the church. Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Tuesday, March 13th, 2018, at 1:45pm. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be donated to Prince of Peace Mission OutPost or Blood and Marrow Transplant Program, C/O Fairview Foundation, Development Office, 2450 Riverside Ave., Mpls, MN 55454 (Checks to BMT Program).

Obituary.........................Ella L. Francis

Ella Lillian (MacKenzie) Francis, of Scituate, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2018, at the age of 96.

 

Ella was a strong, independent and spirited woman.

 

She was born and raised in Arlington, Mass. In her early twenties she became a flight attendant (in that era known as a Stewardess) for Northeast Airlines, through which she met Captain Robert I. Francis. Airline employees were not allowed to be married to each other, but her love for Bob was greater than her love of flying, so she grounded herself when they married in 1946.

 

They settled in Scituate, Mass., built their family home and raised three boys, each with their own distinct set of interests.

 

None of her boys played the same sports, but she got each one to their own activities and cheered each one on.

 

She advocated for a place for youth to hang-out and was a founder of a drop-in center for teens. She took great joy in her journeys around the country to visit her grandchildren and be part of their daily lives and milestone events. With the boys successfully on their own, her own interests blossomed. Her solid start in real estate began with the Jack Conway Agency.

 

She then co-founded Martin and Francis Real Estate. Her loyal customers followed her as she continued her career as an agent with Lucy Locke Gallery of Homes, Hallmark Reality, and finally with Bragga and Associates, selling homes into her 80's.

 

Ella relaxed by tending her beautiful flower gardens. She discovered golf in her mid-50s and was an avid player into her 90s. She again took flight and enjoyed both international travel and visiting religious sites. She was centered throughout her life in her Catholic faith and was a longtime communicant of St. Mary of the Nativity Church.

 

Ella is survived by two sons and their spouses, Robert M. Francis and Peggy Francis of Danville, Calif., and Terence Francis and Janet Francis of Hinesburg, Vt. She is also survived by six grandchildren, their spouses and 9.5 great-grandchildren.

 

Her nieces and nephews will greatly miss their Aunt Ella. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Robert I. Francis, her middle son, Timothy P. Francis, her sister, Jeanne MacKenzie Perry, her parents, Alexander and Gertrude MacKenzie, nephews and many cousins.

 

The family gratefully thanks the wonderful caregivers and supporting staff at Life Care Center of the South Shore, with special heartfelt appreciation to Patrice and Tina.

 

Visiting hours will be Friday, March 9, from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Rd., Scituate. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, March 10, at 9 a.m. at St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent Street, Scituate. Interment to follow at New St. Mary's Cemetery.

Notification with the passing of retired Southern Airways/Northwest pilot Captain Donald ‘Bo’ Wayne Burton, age 72.  Captain Burton’s obituary indicates he joined Southern Airways in March 1973 and retired with Northwest Airlines.  He is survived by his wife Karol Kimball Burton, their children and grandchildren.

Obituary.................BURTON, Donald Wayne "Bo"

Donald Wayne "Bo" Burton passed away February 27, 2018 in Cumming, GA at the age of 72. Born in Atlanta, he was the son of the late Pomeroy Burton and the late Doris Hammond Burton. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Karol Kimball Burton, their two children, Kathryn Burton McRaney and Scott Alexander "Alex" Burton, his daughter-in-law Amanda Burton, son-in-law Chris McRaney and his brother Stacy Burton, along with much loved nieces, nephews and cousins. He was very proud to be grandfather to his twin grandsons, Max and Palmer McRaney. Bo attended Briarcliff High School in DeKalb County and the University of Georgia. While at Georgia, Bo was a letterman (second baseman) on the Bulldogs Varsity Baseball Team and also a member of Sigma Pi fraternity. After college, his love of aviation lead him to take flying lessons at Peachtree DeKalb Airport and he eventually achieved his dream of becoming a commercial airline pilot. He started his aviation career with Southern Airways in Atlanta in March of 1973 and retired as a Captain of over 30 years for Northwest Airlines. Bo enjoyed many passions. He had a great love for playing tennis, was an avid reader, enjoyed cooking, always watched the Atlanta Braves and his beloved Georgia Bulldogs. Bo was also a devoted runner and was a participant in the very first Peachtree Road Race. He would run every day even when on his trips as an airline pilot. This was an important time for Bo as he was not only very health-conscious, but it also was his time to pray. The visitation will be held at 1:00pm and memorial service at 2:00pm Sunday, March 4th at Roswell Funeral Home 950 Mansell Rd., Roswell, GA 30076. A memorial celebration will be held following the service at the funeral home. In lieu flowers, donations can be made to the First Baptist Church of Roswell Music Ministry or Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

Leo Richard "Dick" Dee, age 72, of Chaska, lost his 2 and one half year struggle with glioblastoma on Thursday, February 1, 2018.

Dick was born on May 21, 1945, in Hartford City, IN, the son of Leo Richard and Kathryn Hollis Dee. They preceded him in death.

 

Dick and his high school sweetheart, Karen Coughlin were blessed to have two wonderful daughters, Lori Dee Reeburgh and Kristen Dee Tierney. Dick grew up in Dunkirk, IN, class of 1963 and attended Purdue University until he was hired by Northwest Airlines as a pilot at age 21, retiring at age 60 in 2005. Dick was grateful to fly with Northwest for 38 years in a career he thoroughly enjoyed. He loved to be with family & friends, laugh, have fun, spend winters in Florida, stay active, travel, collect antiques and volunteer at Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly for over 40 years. He was a dedicated steward of their land, planting 100's of trees, attracting bluebirds to their property and enjoying the wildlife that roamed freely. The birds were well fed! He inspired many people in his life to further their education and follow their dreams, like he did! He was a kind, loving and generous man who will be missed by many. As an adoring grandfather (aka, Bach) we know these gifts will not be forgotten, but carried on.

 

Surviving Dick are his loving wife of 52 years, Karen; devoted daughters, Lori (Scott) Reeburgh, Kristen (Cronin) Tierney; grandchildren, Jack and Claire Reeburgh, Cameron, Aynslee and Wesley Tierney; younger brother, Arthur (Bonnie) Dee; mother-in-law, Marie Coughlin and many extended family and friends.
