Obituary.......................

Thomas Fred Lipscomb, 78, died October 14, 2018 at home in Memphis, TN. He was born in Houston, TX to the late Norris Ivy Lipscomb and Leon Brewer Lipscomb.

 

He attended Lamar High School and Sam Houston State University where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. He graduated from Hull School of Aviation and was an airline pilot 31 years with Southern Airways which then became Republic Airlines and finally Northwest Airlines. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Hernando, volunteered with Community Foundation of North Mississippi and went on multiple mission trips to Honduras with Living Waters Mission.

 

He enjoyed attending NASCAR races, riding motorcycles, snow skiing, hunting, camping and most of all, flying. He enjoyed monthly luncheons with other retired pilots and enjoyed spending time with friends. He also owned and operated a farm for many years in Abbeville, MS.

 

He is survived by his daughter Michelle Lipscomb (Gary Hutcherson), his son Thomas Lipscomb, Jr (Holly), grandchildren Cameron Dooley, Henry Lipscomb and John Lipscomb, his brother Norris "Bubba" Lipscomb and his special friend , Gladys Jenkins.

 

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 19, 2018 at 2:00pm at Hernando United Methodist Church, 1890 Mt. Pleasant Rd in Hernando, MS with visitation beginning at 1:00pm. He will be laid to rest in Hempstead, TX.

 

In Lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Rotary Club of Hernando, MS "Honduras Water Well" P.O Box 231 Hernando, MS 38632 or Hernando Methodist Church.

Notification with the passing of retired Western/Delta pilot Captain James Paul Gibbs, age 80.  Captain Gibbs joined Western Airlines 06-05-1967, retiring early due heart issues.  He is survived by his wife Eileen, their children and grandchildren.

Obituary..........................James P. Gibbs

Gibbs, James P., born May 28, 1938, in San Diego, raised in National City, CA, died October 2, 2018 at his home in Mission Viejo. Jim attended St Augustine's High and Sweetwater High and then graduated with a B.S. In Political Science from Loyola University, an active member of Alpha Delta Gamma Fraternity. In 1960 he received a Regular Commission in U.S Air Force. Primary and Basic flight training were at Bartow Air Base, Fla. and Reese Air Base, Tex flying T33's and T37's. Assignments followed in C133's at Cape Kennedy Canaveral, the Pacific arena and Vietnam in C123's. In 1966 he became an instructor of R.O.T.C. At University of Southern Calif. As a Captain with seven years of service, he received 24 Air medals, and was honorably discharged. In 1967 he trained to fly the Electra, 737, 727, 720, 707, and DC10 with Western Airlines, retiring after 19 1/2years. Through it all, he pursued his interest in Real Estate, in sales and management of his rental homes. Pride of his life were his five children, Susan, David, Paul, Denis and Cara. Camping, boating and water sports brought all the family out for fun. Jim is survived by his wife, Eileen, married 57 years; daughters, Susan Lund (Greg), Cara Thompson (Jason); son, David (deceased); daughter-in-law, Jeanne Oakley; sons, Paul (Denise) Gibbs, Denis (Jennifer) Gibbs; and seven grandchildren.

News has reached our group with the passing of retired Delta pilot Captain Donald Jeffrey Kerley, age 66.  Captain Kerley joined Delta Air Lines 09-12-1980, and was based NYC.  He is survived by his wife Denise plus many other family members and dear friends.

Obituary for Donald J. Kerley..........................

 - Donald J. Kerley, 66, of Hampton passed away Thursday November 1, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Indianapolis, IN on December 27, 1951, the son of the late Robert and Clara Mae (Stadtman) Kerley.

 

A 1970 graduate of Kings Park High School in Kings Park, NY, he was a 1974 graduate of The United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO and he proudly served 20 years in the United States Air Force. In 1980 Don became a pilot with Delta Airlines where he worked for 36 years before retiring in 2016.

 

Family and travel meant the world to Don and he loved sharing adventures with those close to him. The house became the focal point for impromptu “power feeds” of all the children and their friends. He had a great appreciation for life, friends, sports and most of all his country. He was a modest man who was involved in many community activities.

 

He is survived by his wife Denise, of Hampton as well as his daughters, Jill of New York, NY, Kim & David of Sarasota, FL, and Courtney & Tyler of Westerly, RI; brother, Robert of Conyers, GA and sister Andrea of Fontana, WI, sister in law Michelle & Ed of North Berwick, ME and brother in law Marc & Debra of Swampscott, MA and his 4 nephews.

 

A celebration of his life will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at the United Church of Christ 295 Atlantic Ave North Hampton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vets Count New Hampshire, vetscount.org/nh/support-us/make-a-donation/

MARGARET 'MARTY' GARDNER
Margaret Gardner (Marty) passed away October 30, 2018. Marty was born in Greenville Mississippi on January 6, 1934. Shortly after birth she and her family moved to Texas. While there she attended Texas Tech collage. A stewardess career looked good to her and she was accepted by Delta Airlines. Marty flew five years before a move to Atlanta. She met Jim Gardner at a square dance and was married a short time later. Marty was active in the community and did volunteer work with battered women. She started Derma Clinic, a skin care business to teach new aesthetician’s in the beauty trade.
Marty participated in the Ms. Senior Georgia contest and won Miss Congeniality twice and really enjoyed her life. After the pageant she joined the Dazzling Dames. This is a group of senior ladies who perform a variety show at nursing homes, churches and other events. She got great pleasure in this endeavor. 
She loved to ride on the back seat of a motorcycle with her husband and rode  over 150,000 miles in Nova Scotia,  Key West, Washington state, New Zealand, as well as the European Alps and many states.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at the Mays Ward Dobbins funeral home in Marietta Georgia on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 4:00 PM
There will be a short reception following the service for all who would like to attend. The internment will be at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton Georgia Monday, November 5, 2018 for immediate family.
Surviving family are her son Butch Ruffin of Lebanon, Tennessee and her daughter Reggie Ruffin of Marietta, Georgia where she spent the last remaining days being lovingly cared for.
 In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Alzheimer’s research.
We are all going to miss Little Marty and heaven just received a wonderful addition.
