Notification with the passing of retired Delta pilot Captain Donald Larry Hansen, age 81.  Captain Hansen joined Delta Air Lines 09-13-1965 and retired in May 1997, based 031/ATL, Line Ck. Airman.  He is survived by his wife Karen, plus children and grandchildren.

Obituary....................

Donald Larry Hansen, 81, of Salem, South Carolina and formerly of Carteret County, passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2019, at his home.

 

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2019, at Atlantic United Methodist Church in Atlantic, NC, officiated by Rev. Jack Colenda and Rev. Paul Harris.

 

Larry was born in Atlantic, Iowa but grew up in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  He attended Colorado State University then joined the United States Marine Corps, first serving as a rifleman and a radio operator.  He was then selected for the aviation program where he earned his Naval Aviator Wings and a commission as a Second Lieutenant.  He flew the F-8 Crusader and the KC-130. 

 

Larry left the Marine Corps in 1965 to pursue a rewarding career as a pilot for Delta Air Lines.  He retired after 32 years as an International Captain on the L-1011 Tristar Jetliner.  In retirement, he enjoyed traveling in his motorhome with friends and visiting family.

 

His book, True Lies and Real Fiction, is an account of his memorable life experiences.

 

Larry is survived by his wife, Karen Hansen; sons, Kevin Hansen and his wife Jennifer, Chris Hansen and his wife Laura and John Hansen; brother, Bill Hansen and wife Pat; grandchildren, Eva Rose, Kevin, Smith, Polly, Eric and Will; and step-grandson, Jacob.

 

Family will receive friends following the service on Saturday, February 9, 2019, at Atlantic United Methodist Church.

Jimmy Britton, 78, of Howe passed away Sunday, Feb. 3, 2019, in Howe. Jimmy was born Aug. 10, 1940, in Howe to James and Clyta (Howell) Britton. His parents and sister, Peggy Ann, preceded him in death. Jimmy was a highly decorated Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. As a pilot for Delta Airlines, Jimmy had to two nicknames, "Jimmy Jet" and "Jimmy Fun." He retired early from Delta Airlines after 25 years so he would have more time to hunt, backpack, snowmobile and enjoy the great outdoors with his wife and family. Our time was divided between our cabin above Lost Valley of the San Juans, near Pagosa Springs, Colo., and our home in Howe. Our yearly trek to Colorado was around June until mid-October, when we returned to Oklahoma to hunt white-tailed deer. December found us back in Colorado to play in the snow, coming back to Oklahoma in March in time for turkey season. Jim was president of the Lost Valley POA board of directors for many years, since its inception. He was Colorado's Snowmobile Association (CSA) District 9 representative for seven years. CSA is responsible for grooming trails throughout the state. Jimmy also worked closely with the local U.S. Forest Service on various land access issues. Jimmy's attitude in emergencies calmed all those involved, while otherwise he was a very exciting man. He made life fun for everyone around him; chaotic but fun. He could take an unlikely group of boys and make baseball players out of them. He loved watching them grow as players and individuals becoming even more than they expected. He was an excellent instructor pilot with the Air Force, instructing in the O-1E Bird Dog plane and the OV-10 at Hurlburt Field, Fla., after returning from Vietnam.
Survivors include his wife, Rhonda of Howe; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Danny Brklacich of Utah; sons and daughters-in-law, Jon M. and Christy Britton of Tom Bean, Texas, Robert G. and Lisa Britton of Colorado Springs, Colo., and William B. and Nelba Britton of Ketchikan, Alaska; sister, Judy Britton Peerson of Poteau; brothers, Daune Britton of Howe, Max Britton of Corpus Christi, Texas; 14 grandchildren, Jacob, Katelin, Kendal, Braden, Tyler, Cody, Cole, Danielle, Britny, Sam, Beau, Abby, Rowan and Dayana; numerous nieces and nephews; and other relatives, loved ones and friends.
Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019, at First United Methodist Church in Poteau with Rev. Jim Perkin officiating. Interment will follow at Monroe Cemetery in Monroe, Okla.
Pallbearers will be Jacob Britton, Cody and Cole Brklacich, Beau and Samuel Britton and Beau Tucker.
The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Friday to visit with relatives and friends.

USAF veteran, DL Captain Jimmy Britton

Word has reached our group with news of the passing of retired Delta pilot Captain Jimmy Britton, age 78.  Captain Britton joined Delta Air Lines 01-05-1970 and was based DFW.  He is survived by his wife Rhonda, their children and grandchildren plus many other friends and family members.

Word has reached us with the passing of Delta retiree Mr. Terry Franklin Jones, age 74. Terry joined Delta Air Lines in August 1966 and retired with Delta in December 2001 as Mgr.-Op. Control, based 033/ATG.  He is survived by his wife Joan ‘Bunny’ Sims Jones plus many other dear family members, friends and aviation colleagues.

Obituary........................JONES, Terry Franklin

Terry Franklin Jones, 74, of Hampton, died peacefully at his home on February 1, 2019 after a brief illness. Born on the fourth of July, 1944 in Kingwood , WV, he spent his childhood in Statesboro, GA and Baltimore, MD. During an enlistment as an MP in the US Army, he served in President Eisenhower's Honor Guard. He later joined the Atlanta Police Department where he served for three years. In 1966 he accepted a position with Delta Airlines, where he retired as Superintendent of Flight Control. Following a 36 year career with Delta, he continued to work as an airline consultant in Vietnam, and in Azerbaijan for Silkways Airlines. He donated his time and services to numerous nonprofits, including contributing to the design of an L-1011 flying hospital for Touch our Planet. He chaired the City of Hampton Downtown Development Authority from 2003-2006, during which time he designed and built the park at the Hampton train depot that bears his name. At the time of his death he was employed as Legislative Consultant for the Delta Air Lines Retiree Community. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Charles Jones, Sr. of Baltimore, and a daughter, June Hix Narron of Hampton. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joan (Bunny) Sims Jones of Hampton, daughters Kathryn Jones (Dan) Pillatzki of Hampton and Joan Hix (Peter) Ekstrom of Madison, son Patrick Franklin (Lorayne) Jones of Woodstock; brother John (Linda) Jones and sister-in-law Barbara Jones of Baltimore; grandchildren Amanda Pillatzki (Alex) Lesov of Decatur, Megan Pillatzki and Kato Estill of Blairsville, Duncan Jones and Colin Jones of Woodstock, Lene Ekstrom of Madison, Elizabeth (AJ) Nance of Bryson City, NC, and Stephanie (Jason) Nemyer of Griffin ; numerous beloved nieces and nephews. The family will receive visitors at Haisten Funeral Home in McDonough on Sunday, February 10 from 2:00 to 3:00, followed immediately by a brief service. Obituary..............

Wayne Segulia, of Prior Lake, passed away on January 27, 2019, at the age of 88.

 

Mass of Christian Burial is Thursday, January 31 at 11 a.m. with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church in Prior Lake. Father Tom Walker will preside, and his children will act as pallbearers. Wayne will be laid to rest at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis with full military honors provided by the Fort Snelling Rifle Squad.

 

On July 23, 1930, parents Mathew and Frances Segulia celebrated the birth of their only child, Wayne Mathew Segulia.Wayne grew up in Butte, MT, an old fashioned, rough and tumble mining community. Living in Butte during the Great Depression instilled a strong work ethic in Wayne.

 

From an early age, Wayne worked underground in the copper mines nights and weekends to help support his family. Following his high school graduation, Wayne attended the Montana School of Mines. Before completing his degree, Wayne enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was stationed in Japan, Korea and numerous places in the United States. Wayne was a fighter pilot and was part of a top-secret group of nuclear bomber pilots. Wayne was always so proud of his military service and grateful that he never had to deploy a nuclear bomb.

 

After his honorable discharge, Wayne returned to Montana. He began working for commercial airlines, and eventually ended up at Northwest Airlines. He provided a wonderful life for his family. His work brought him to Prior Lake, where he raised his four children. After 31 years, Wayne retired from Northwest as Captain on the DC10.

 

In the mid 80's, Wayne met the love of his life. Wayne and Carol were married on September 21, 1985 and blended their two families together. Although most of the kids were out of the house by that point, Wayne and Carol always made sure they had a loving home where all their children, grandkids and family dogs were welcome.

 

Wayne was always active in his free time. Golf was one of his favorite activities. Wayne even golfed 18 holes in October before his health began to decline. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, spending time at the cabin up north, and hiked Pikes Peak at age 65. For years, Wayne was dedicated to addressing the "squirrel problem" at his house. He would catch and release them far away from his own yard. Despite the relocation, they always found their way back!

 

As a faithful man, Wayne served as an usher at St. Michael Catholic Church on the Saturday night crew. He also volunteered at the CAP Agency with the food shelf. Wayne had a kind heart and was always happy to help others. Family was the most important thing in Wayne's life. He was a wonderful father & grandpa. Wayne was also a dedicated husband and loving caretaker for Carol.

 

Wayne is loved and missed by his wife, Carol Segulia; children; Mark Segulia, Mike (Cindy) Segulia, Matt Segulia, Margy Segulia, Jeff (Lori) Doerr, Brad (May) Doerr, Crystal (Paul) Dvorak; grandchildren, Jessica, Nathan, Kirsten, Carly, Dan, Steve, Jason, Hunter, Madison & his six great-grandchildren; other loving relatives and friends.

 

Wayne was greeted in Heaven by his parents.

Gloria Ann McIntyre Braswell, 77, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Gloria was born in Mt. Gilead, North Carolina on May 21, 1941, daughter of the late Frank Grady and Jessie Beatrice Greene McIntyre. She graduated as valedictorian of Ellerbe High School, then from the University of North Carolina Greensboro with a degree in Education. On August 8, 1965, she married Doyle Braswell and they settled in Miami, FL where she taught at Comstock Elementary and then Village Green Elementary, developing special lifelong friendships with fellow teachers. In 1975, they moved to Homestead, FL to farm avocados while raising their three children. She returned to teaching at Redland Elementary as a substitute teacher, and then started a tutoring business. Just as with her own three children, she was patient, encouraging and creative in fostering a love of learning. In addition to teaching, Gloria volunteered extensively in the local schools and her church, Silver Palm United Methodist. From planning fundraisers, directing Christmas plays, overseeing youth group activities, or planning Mother's Day luncheons, she had a heart for children and families. She loved music and was a member of the church choir for decades. Many of her best friends were through church and choir. In addition, she sought out those who might be lonely or isolated. In caring for the shut-ins and elderly, she exemplified a wonderful example of service and Christ's love for others. She was generous and compassionate, quick to appear with a meal for a sick friend, a devotion and hug for a lonely friend, or a phone call or card to keep in touch with those she loved across the miles. Her enthusiasm for shopping, especially yard sales and bargains, was motivated by her love for others and her yard sale finds were usually shared - a toy for a grandchild, clothes for those in need, or vases she would fill with flowers for a church pot-luck. Gloria's dinners and holiday parties were memorable and lively, filled with creative games and themes. She loved to cook and had many delicious recipes, generously shared with family and friends. Her love of family was legendary; spending weeks to care for a newborn grandchild, planning family reunions and celebrating birthdays. Thanks to Doyle's pilot career, Gloria had ample opportunities for family vacations to many different places. She was always up for an adventure and loved traveling with her family.

 

Gloria exemplified the Proverbs 31 woman - a hard working woman who took care of her family, her home and her friends, the poor and needy. "She is clothed with strength and dignity, she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom and faithful instruction is on her tongue. Many women do noble things but you surpass them all. Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting but a woman who loves the Lord is to be praised. Honor her for all her hands have done and let her works bring her praise at the city gate." Gloria never had a negative word for anyone, was radiant and forgiving and demonstrated a sharp wit, even when she was very sick. She loved to laugh with friends and family.

 

We extend much gratitude to the numerous family members and friends who generously cared and supported her and the family in the last weeks of her life. Your presence and prayers truly astounded Gloria. At one point, she even laughed at the crowd gathered in her hospital room and remarked, "I had no idea so many people even liked me!" Her life is a legacy of love, with each of us responsible for extending it by being a blessing to others.

 

Gloria is survived by her husband of 53 years, Doyle Braswell, her daughters, Shannon (Beau) Eddleman of Raleigh, NC, Tiffany (Ron) Larson of West Bend, WI, and son Michael (Amy) Braswell of St. Petersburg, FL as well as her five beloved grandchildren, Auburn, Trey, Lindsey, Brian and Colton. She has many special nieces and nephews as well as extended family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by twin sisters, Maxine and Collene McIntyre, brother Baxter Grady McIntyre, and sisters Betty McIntyre Hatcher, Arlene McIntyre Baxter and Lillie McIntyre Haywood.

 

A celebration of Gloria's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity or, as Gloria would do, share an act of kindness toward someone in your community.
