Belated news, as noted in ALPA’s In Memoriam column,
the passing of Northeast/Delta pilot S/O Alvin Charles Oppenheim, age 90. Al first joined Northeast Airlines in February
1953 and worked his way up (pilot seniority date 05-24-1957). He retired with Delta Air Lines in 1988,
based Atlanta at time of retirement. Al
was widowed with the passing of his wife Arlene in September 2014….both

Obituary…………………. Alvin C. ‘Al’ Oppenheim, 90, died on
Tuesday, April 17, 2018 after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of
the late Arlene (Prolman) Oppenheim, with whom he celebrated many years of
marriage prior to her passing in 2014.
Born in Boston on April 4, 1928, he was a son of the late
Milton and Caroline Oppenheim. Al grew up in Boston and later spent his life
living between Naples, FL and Cape Cod. He enlisted in the US Navy at age 17
where he became a trained Paratrooper. After being honorably discharged from
the Navy, Al began working as an Aircraft Mechanic for Northeast Airlines, and
later, Delta Airlines. Early in his career, he worked his way up to Flight
Engineer, a title which he proudly carried for 35 years. He became one of the most
senior Flight Engineers at Delta Airlines and flew internationally to London
and Germany.
In his spare time, Al enjoyed cooking, going to the gym, and
taking in a show at the Cape Playhouse or a concert at the Naples Opera House.
He loved traveling with his wife, Arlene, visiting destinations throughout
Europe, India, Malaysia, and many others. Al received much enjoyment form
living on Cape Cod where he and his family moved in 1973. He will always be
remembered for being handy, and his ability to fix almost anything. Above all,
his most cherished time was spent surrounded by family and friends,
particularly Carol and Steve Hurley of Naples and Wayland, and those in Naples
that he met with daily at the coffee shop.
Al is survived and will be deeply missed by his daughter,
Anne Welton of W. Barnstable; his son, Keith Oppenheim and his wife Deborah
Gray of Arlington; two grandchildren, Jenny and Andrew Welton; and a sister in
law, Jeanenne Oppenheim of Naples, FL.
At the family's request, all services were held privately.

Wife’s obituary…………………………. Arlene Frances Oppenheim, 83
Arlene Frances Oppenheim, 83, of West Barnstable and Naples,
Fla., died on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2014.
Born on July 30, 1931, in Lawrence, Mass., she was the
daughter of the late Louis and Pauline (Merson) Prolman.
Arlene was very devoted to her religion and a longtime
member of Hadassah, ORT and the Jewish Federation. She also delivered food to
the needy and volunteered at events at many organizations such as the Cape Cod
Melody Tent, the Naples Art Association and the Naples Opera.
She was a gifted artist, often painting acrylic and water
color portraits and also had a passion for photography. Being an antique
dealer, she established Dunes View Antiques in West Barnstable and was a member
of the Antique Dealers Association. Her work allowed her to organize and attend
antique and craft shows. Arlene also loved traveling the world with her husband
visiting destinations throughout Europe, India, Nepal, Malaysia and Africa.
Arlene was a very loving, kind, gentle and outgoing person.
She always made it a point to call every family and friend on their birthdays.
She also loved having coffee with her brothers at Tony's in Naples. More than
anything, she cherished the time that she shared with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Alvin Charles Oppenheim of
West Barnstable, Mass.; a son, Keith Robert Oppenheim and his wife Deborah Gray
of Arlington, Mass.; a daughter, Anne Rachel Welton of Northborough, Mass.;
grandchildren Andrew Welton and Jennifer Welton of Northborough; brothers Norman
Prolman and his wife Karin of Framingham, Mass., Earl Prolman and his wife
Marilyn of Nashua, N.H., and David Prolman and his wife Marjorie of Naples,
Fla.; brother-in-law Richard Oppenheim and his wife Jeanenne of Naples; as well
as many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at noon on Friday, Sept. 19,
2014, at Cape Cod Synagogue, 145 Winter St., Hyannis, MA 02601. Burial will
follow in Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit.
