Captain Pierce joined Delta Air Lines 10-28-1963 and retired in 1999, based 030/DFW.  He is survived by his wife Lee along with his children and grandchildren plus many more dear family members.

Obituary : Albert Leon "Pete" Pierce

At age 81, Pete Pierce of Dallas, Texas, passed away December 30th after a ten-day struggle with Covid. Born in Chicago, Illinois to Albert ("Al") and Helen Pierce, he grew up in the Dallas area. He spent summers visiting his maternal, fun-loving aunts and cousins in Terra Haute, Indiana. After attending Washington and Lee University, he went back to Dallas and graduated from SMU. In 1963, Pete followed his passion for flying and joined Delta Airlines, where he spent his entire professional flying career until retirement.

While finishing at SMU, Pete met his life's love, Lee Ford. Before moving to Atlanta, Ga., to attend flight training school for Delta, they were married. In 1977 Pete established Pierce Properties, where he excelled as one of Dallas and the Park Cities well-known builders of quality and style. His houses will remain as signature homes for years to come.

In his leisure time, he was an avid golfer and member of the Dallas Country Club. He enjoyed spending summers in Carmel, CA where he played the golf courses of Pebble Beach. Pete also, in Durango, CO, developed a skill for fly fishing for which he enjoyed with his sons and grandsons. In addition to the Dallas/Park Cities areas, Pete and Lee combined his building/remodeling talents with Lee's decorative skills to the homes they owned in California and Colorado.

Pete was a passionate father and grandfather, extending the best of himself in his legacy to his children and grandchildren. The stories they tell about "Pa" will bring joy and laughter for years to come. He is survived by his wife, Lee Pierce, his children, John Pierce, and daughter-in-law Kendall of Rockwall, TX Annie Peek, and son-in-law Steve of Oxford, NC, and Stuart Pierce and fiancé Jessie Walker of Mesquite, TX. His Grandchildren, Winton Welsh, III and fiancé Megan Lyons, Sam Pierce, Stephen Pierce, Kate Pierce and Simon Pierce. His siblings, Nancy Pierce Francis of Amity, AR. and Max Pierce of Los Angeles, CA. His nephew, Don Pierce of Hurst, TX. and many beloved cousins. Pete's mother and father, Helen and Al Pierce, all of his adored aunts from Indiana, and his canine companions, Nick, Nora and Chloe, preceded his passing. He will be eternally loved and missed.

Due to Covid, private services for immediate family will be held at Restland, Dallas, Texas. Instead of flowers, please send donations on his behalf to the ASPCA.

Captain Jerry McDonald, age 80, joined Western Airlines  09-03-1968 and retired with Delta Air Lines in 2000, based  031/JFK at the time of his retirement.  He is survived by his wife Jane along with his children and grandchildren.

Obituary : Gerald Henry McDonald

Gerald Henry McDonald, known as Jerry to friends and family, slipped the surly bonds of earth on December 31, 2020 at the age of 80 following a hospitalization with COVID. He was born April 4, 1940 in El Paso, Texas. Following graduation from Texas A&M, he married his sweetheart, Jane and commissioned into the Navy, flying EC121s in the Hurricane Hunters. After his service in the Navy, he became a commercial pilot for Western Airlines and Delta Airlines, retiring in 2000. Upon retirement, he was conscripted into grandparent service, and was frequently put to work as a chauffeur and principal fan at his grandchildren's sporting events. He maintained a close and witty circle of friends who could often be found sharing a few beers and exchanging stories.

 

His life was characterized by his love of country and his love of family. Those who knew him well will remember him as a good friend with a keen intellect and wry sense of humor.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Collie and Peg McDonald and Grace Charles and his brother James Collie McDonald, Jr.

 

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jane McDonald; his siblings; John (Cathy) McDonald of Shiloh Il, MaryAnn (Wayne) Burks of Tampa, FL and Brad (Merri Moore) McDonald of Pine Mountain GA; his children Karen (Rex) Massey of Reno, Mike (Melissa) McDonald of Larkspur, CA, and grandchildren; John (Abby) Massey, Joseph Massey, James Massey, Dylan McDonald, Luke McDonald and Katelyn McDonald.

 

As Dad used to say after a tough Aggie loss, "they didn't so much lose as just run out of time." He fought until the end; but just ran out of time. Services will be held a future date.

I regret to inform you of the passing of my good friend and fellow instructor Don Hallock on his birthday this Christmas. Don and I ran the the entire electra training program in Ontario for 2 years. I will miss him. Dick

 

My name is Vance Hallock, I am Don Hallock’s son.  I am very sorry to inform his friends that he passed away on Dec 25th.  My Dad was 88 years old and was fighting a respiratory problem for the last few years.  He died peacefully without any pain.  His wife Ruth and his three children were with him when he made his final landing.

Obituary : Charles R. Sidenstricker

Charles Robert “Charlie” Sidenstricker passed peacefully at his home on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, after years of a battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. Charlie was the oldest son of seven children born on March 2, 1940, to Lee and Nellie Kinnard Sidenstricker of Point Pleasant, WV.  He was a loving and kindhearted soul. He was also a very generous man to his family, friends, and anyone in need.

 

Charlie proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a retired Captain with Delta Airlines where he spent his entire career of 36 years living his dream. His passion was evident as a Line Check Airman for Delta, where he trained pilots to exceed the standard of excellence.  After his retirement, he continued his love of flying by honoring veterans. He participated in The Salute to the Shore to honor our fallen military on the Fourth of July and the Angel Flight program to transport medical patients to destinations for treatment. He also supported the efforts of The Mount Pleasant Pilots’ Association’s through the Able Flight program, a pilot training program for disabled veterans and civilians, as well as community efforts to engage youth in the interest in flying. His contribution to the aviation community was remarkable. 

 

He is survived by his companion of 23 years, Cindy Ecleberry and their beloved Yorkie, Abby; daughter, Kristen Youngblood (Barry); sons, Ted Sidenstricker (Jenna), and Eddie Sidenstricker (Sarah); beloved grandchildren, Emily Ehrmann (Kyle), Alex Youngblood (Ariel), Cole Sidenstricker, and Ivey Sidenstricker; sisters, Carol, and Wanda Stalnaker; brothers, Jack Sidenstricker (Carol), and Larry Sidenstricker (Linda); and many nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Jim, and John Sidenstricker. Charlie was loved by a host of many friends and family.

 

A private family service will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. The service will be available to view via livestream via the livestreaming tab on the McDougald Funeral Home website.  PHONE: (864) 224-4343

Obituary :  Douglas E. Harrison of Little Torch Key, Florida died on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2020, at age 78, due to complications from an accidental head injury sustained in October. He and his wife Susan built a home on Little Torch, where Doug lived out his life fishing, diving, and rebuilding antique cars. He was active in Monroe County politics and gave of his time, talents, and resources to local nonprofits. Doug will be missed by many.

 

Doug was born on Jan. 18, 1942 in Baltimore, MD. He grew up in Ellicott City and graduated from Catonsville High School in 1960. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in engineering from University of Maryland and a Master’s degree in paleontology from University of Minnesota.

 

Doug joined the U.S. Navy in 1961. Within two years, he was accepted into flight school, and he received his wings on Dec. 17, 1964. He flew 114 combat missions in Vietnam and was awarded the Air Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign, and National Defense. His last active duty mission was Attack Squadron ONE TWO FIVE. He was discharged on June 26, 1968.

 

In 1968, Doug started his 35 year career as a pilot for Northwest Airlines. He worked his way up from Second Officer to Captain, flying Boeing 707, 727, 757, 747, The Airbus and the DC 10. He flew both domestically and to Europe and Asia. In addition to pilot, Doug also served as a check airman and flight instructor. Some of his fondest memories were flying to Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, Cuba and meeting Fidel Castro, and instructing pilots when Northwest Airlines sent planes to Kenya, where he met Jomo Kenyatta.

 

On St. Patrick’s Day in 1981, Doug met a flight attendant named Susan in Orlando. Doug and Susan married on Oct. 15, 1982 at Pilgrim Heights in Montour, IA. They made a life together in the Florida Keys, and after his retirement as a 747-400 Captain in 2002, the two began traveling the US in an RV with their dogs.

 

Doug served two terms as President of Jolly Roger Estates Homeowners Association and was instrumental in erecting the flag pole that stands at the entrance today. He was a member of the Southernmost Republican Club and worked on many successful campaigns. Serving as Campaign Manager for Monroe County Sheriff Rick Ramsay was a proud moment for Doug.

 

Doug also served several terms as a board member for The Monroe Association for ReMARCable Citizens and was a past member of the Military Affairs Committee.

 

Doug is survived by his wife, Susan Dirks Harrison and his puppies, Flash III and Elie II; his beloved in-laws, Harlan and Darlene Dirks; Nathan and Valerie (Dirks) Behounek, Carie Behounek, Juliet Sherman, Jacob and Amy Behounek, Aaron and Sarah (Behounek) Kassen; Sandra Dirks; David and Ardella Dirks, Ryan and Shelby (Dirks) Speicher, Todd Dirks and Hayley Proenza, Kyle Dirks and Ryan Gruber, Ryan Dirks, Natasha Ribby and Jake Dirks.

 

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Lee Harrison and Rita Marie (Russo) Harrison, Brothers, Donald Harrison and Lee Harrison and Sister, Libby( Harrison) Stone.
