Notification with news of the passing of retired Delta pilot Captain Patrick J. "Pat" Donnelly, age 81.  Captain Donnelly joined Delta Air Lines 09-12-1969 and retired with Delta in 2000, based 030/ATL.  Widowed in August of 2017, he is survived by his sons and their families.

Obituary : Patrick (Pat) J. Donnelly, 81, passed away on Sunday, October 4th, 2021, after a short illness. Born in Philadelphia, Patrick attended Philadelphia Archdiocesan schools and the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School. Patrick joined the US Marine Corp, serving as a fighter pilot in the Vietnam War. After his military service, Pat enjoyed a 30-year career flying for Delta Air Lines retiring in 2000 as a Captain. Pat and his wife were longtime residents of Slidell, LA, making their post retirement home in Kingsport, TN. Patrick is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Janet M Donnelly, his brother Maj John (Jack) Donnelly USAF Retired and his sister, Sister Kathleen Donnelly IHM. Pat is survived by his two sons, Sean Donnelly and wife Rebecca; Michael Donnelly; two grandsons Brendan Donnelly and Aidan Donnelly; and his sister Annamarie Yuhas and husband Ted Yuhas.

Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 12th, 2021, at Mountain Home National Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by The American Legion, Hammond Post # 3, and Gate City Post #265. Those attending committal services are asked to assemble at the cemetery by 10:45am Tuesday. Jan was an Honor Graduate of Mansfield Senior High School in Mansfield, Ohio. She received her B.S. in Physical Therapy from Ohio State University and was an Honor Graduate of the United States Naval School, Officer, Women. She had worked as a Licensed Physical Therapist and was a founding partner of Northlake Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Services where she worked until her retirement in 1997.

Jan was the president of Slidell Memorial Hospital Hospice Foundation, Slidell Junior Auxiliary, Le Cotillion, River Oak Homeowners' Association and the Bayou Orthopedic Study Group, all in Slidell, LA. She was also the past recording secretary of the Ozone Camellia Club. Jan was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church………….

Notification with the passing of retired North Central/Northwest Airlines pilot Captain David Jacob Huibregtse, age 85.  I believe Captain Huibregtse was Air Force Reserves and joined North Central in May 1967.  Obituary notes his retirement with Northwest in 1993.  He is survived by his wife Lucia along with his children, and his grand- and great grandchildren.

Obituary : David Jacob Huibregtse

With heavy hearts we share the passing of beloved husband and father David J. Huibregtse. Born in Plymouth, WI on June 27th, 1936. Dave struggled with Parkinson's for many years and was peacefully called from his home by his Lord & Savior on October 5th, 2021. Preceded in death by parents Harold & Helen (Lorenz) Huibregtse and Grandsons Dylan, Matthew, William and Bennett. Survived by beloved wife Lucia (Stauber) and best friend of 61 years, children Hope Ernst (Don) of Puyallup, WA, Paul (Sue) of Maple Grove, MN, Greg (Grace) of Minneapolis, MN, Eric (Yvette) of Victoria, MN, Dean (Kristin) of Pittsburgh, PA and Mark of Hopkins, MN. Survived by 15 awesome grandchildren Nick, Nathan, Nolan, Kelly, Patrick, Colleen, Sarah, Melanie, Jacob, Henry, Justin, Ryan, Lucas, Frank and George and 14 amazing great-grandchildren. Leaves behind brother John (Rogene) Huibregtse Of Mackinac Island, MI and sister Sue Zeihen of Appleton, WI.

 

Dave was an aviator, a leader, an early adaptor and a pioneer of his time. Dave's love of flying began on a grass airstrip in Kohler, WI in 1958. That small airstrip led to time with the 95th Troop Carrier Squadron out of Mitchell Field in Milwaukee, WI to a 30 year career as a Captain for Northwest Airlines retiring in 1993.

 

Throughout Dave's life, he enjoyed many hobbies. Some of his most interesting hobbies were bee keeping & honey making, having several hives on South Shore Lane and then at the Pavelka's farm. He was an early adaptor and pioneer with solar energy in the mid-seventies, having a few solar panels on the roof to heat hot water. Dave had a love of cars too, rebuilding a Corvair in Elgin, Il, a complete restoration of a 1969 C-10 pick up and his favorite, a 1929 Model A Ford, so much so he was a member of the Twin Cities Model A Ford Club. He had many more hobbies, such as sailing, photography, running and cycling (including riding his Schwinn LeTour to work at MSP).

 

There were many organizations that Dave was involved in and held leadership roles, such as the pilots union ALPA, Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts Troop 342 & Mustang District Director, Little League baseball, Immaculate Heart of Mary, The Agape House, FFA as a youth, Knights of Columbus, AIDS Ride to Chicago and his greatest passion, being an Ordained Deacon. Dave became an Ordained Deacon in 1993 and throughout his service he touched many lives.

 

Dave was always active in making sure his kids and grand kids were busy. There were many family vacations, homemade skating rinks in the backyard, swimming pools, playhouses, Cabin on Spirit Lake, boat rides and much more that made us all what we are today.

 

Many of us were fortunate to be at home with Dave at his bedside on his last evening with us, those who were not were there in spirt. We would like to extend our gratitude to Josephine, Rebeccah, Beatrice and Dia, caregivers to Dad. Now, a very special mention to his son Greg and loving wife Lucia who spent the last 18 months providing full time care for dad which allowed Dad to live and remain in his home.

Notification with the passing of Republic/Northwest/Delta pilot Captain James "Jim" Bradley Young, age 63.  Captain Young joined Republic Airlines 06-17-1985 and made the various mergers with Northwest Airlines and Delta Air Lines.  He is survived by his wife Kari, his daughters, and his grandchildren.

Obituary : YOUNG, James “Jim” Bradley, 63, of Palm Coast, FL passed away September 25, 2021. He was preceded in death by his mother, Gail C. Kempker; and father-in-law, James A. Halstenson. He is survived by his wife, Kari Young of FL.; father, James L. Young of AZ; mother-in-law, Marcy Halstenson of ND; brother, Mark Young (Millie) of NJ; daughters, Rebecca Haygood (Andy) and Jacqueline Vitiello (Brian) of Richmond, VA; grandchildren, Claire, Kaylee, Caroline, James and Zach.

 

Jim was born in Rugby, ND on August 7, 1958, to James and Gail Young. He grew up in Katonah, NY with his brother, Mark. He spent his summers in ND with his grandparents and graduated from John Jay High School.

 

Jim attended The University of North Dakota, where he met and married Kari Halstenson in 1983. He graduated with a degree in Aviation.

 

Jim began his career in Grand Rapids, MN working for the Dept. of Natural Resources. He loved flying 100 feet above the ground to track wildlife.

 

He then flew for Mesaba Airlines and in 1985 was hired by Republic Airlines. He and Kari moved to MN where he was blessed with the arrival of two beautiful daughters, Becky and Jacki.

 

Republic Airlines merged with Northwest Airlines and Jim moved his family to Hawaii for three years. Next they moved to Memphis, TN where they lived for several years. When Northwest merged with Delta Airlines, Jim and Kari moved to the Chattanooga, TN area. It was then that Jim began flying overseas. He traveled the world and loved it. Also during this time, Jim and Kari enjoyed leisure travel, especially their trips to Norway to see relatives.

 

Towards the end of his 35 year career as a commercial pilot, Jim and Kari moved to the east coast of Florida, but enjoyed a beautiful lake house during the summers in Virginia to be close to family.

 

Jim enjoyed American hot rods like his Shelby GTs, Ford Mustangs, Dodge Vipers, and Chevy Corvettes. He even picked up a Corvette at the factory in Kentucky as it rolled off the assembly line. He also liked Harley Davidson motorcycles. He picked one up in California and drove it across the country with a close friend. He had a love of trains, mostly because his father grew up in a train depot.

 

He enjoyed working hard outdoors, fishing, boating and especially skeet and clay pigeon shooting with his buddies in Memphis and St. Augustine. The social hour, Sunday “prayer” meeting, and numerous dinners associated with the clubs were some of his favorite activities.

 

He was a story teller! He loved to visit for hours telling stories and making people laugh. He would do anything for his friends. He will be greatly missed.

 

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Elk Valley Lutheran Church, 2542 43rd St. NE, McCanna, ND 58251. A celebration of life will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, January 29, 2022, at St. Augustine Gun Club, 401 Gun Club Rd, St. Augustine, FL. 32095. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Elk Valley Lutheran Church c/o Kari Young, P.O. Box 190, Sutherland, VA. 23885.

Captain Ross Edward Kramer, age 81.  Captain Kramer joined Northwest Airlines 07-07-1969.

Douglas Allen Pershall passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Friday, Sept. 24, 2021 at 69 years old. Doug was a man of God, devoted son, husband, father, and joke enthusiast. He spent his childhood in Othello, Washington where he was active in FFA, band, track and field, and enjoyed family vacations on Lake Chelan.

He earned a Bachelor’s degree from Pacific Lutheran University, a Master’s in Business Administration from Oregon State University and served in the Air National Guard. Doug loved to fly and he built his 28 year aviation career around that working as a flight instructor, pilot for KGW Skywatch Traffic, cargo pilot, and later as an airline pilot for Horizon, Republic, and Northwest Airlines.

In his time on the ground he enjoyed farm life, water skiing, weekly Bible studies, serving his church of 30 years, woodworking, fishing with friends, and watching his kids play sports of all kinds. Doug was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease nearly 15 years ago. After retiring he continued his hobbies and farm work as long as he could and found joy in spending time with friends, walking, his Parkinson’s Pilates class, and his beloved grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Sue; his four children, Aaron and wife Karisa, Annie, Hannah and husband Eric, and Daniel and wife Leslie; his 6 grandchildren; his brother, Keith; his sister, Nancy; and 13 of his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ken and LaDeana Pershall.

His memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church (309 W 39th St. Vancouver, WA).

In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Doug’s name to one of the three following organizations: Parkinson’s Resource of Oregon, Community Home Health and Hospice in Vancouver, WA, or Trinity Lutheran Church in Vancouver, WA.
