He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Maysville, Kentucky, a United States Navy Korean War veteran and a member of the Archie Lee Boyce American Legion Post #406 in Bethel, Ohio. Mr. Hunter enjoyed playing the mandolin in several bluegrass bands over the years and also enjoyed playing the guitar and fiddle.Mr. Hunter was born February 21,1934 in Mansfield, Ohio the son of the late Arthur and Margaret Grace (McManamon) Hunter. He was also preceded in death by his wife of fifty-six years – Annette Marie (Williams) Hunter in April,2021, they were married February 20, 1965.......

David C. Hunter, age 87, of Georgetown, Ohio died Friday, December 3,2021 at his residence. Mr. Hunter was a pilot and Captain for Delta Airlines for twenty-seven years until his retirement. Mr. Hunter is survived by four children – Arthur Hunter of Bethel, Ohio, Alice Hunter of Weymouth, Massachusetts, Kathleen Williams and husband Arthur of Hingham, Massachusetts and Michael Hunter and wife Kim of Georgetown, Ohio; nine grandchildren – Elizabeth, Erin, Grace, Clare and Abigail Hunter, Timothy, Matthew and Emily Williams and Samuel Linkous; one sister – Helen Bogner of Ontario, Ohio and several nieces and nephews.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, December 9,2021 at the St. Patrick Catholic Church, 310 E. Third Street in Maysville, Kentucky. Rev. Andrew Young will be the Celebrant. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 8,2021 at the Cahall Funeral Home in Georgetown, Ohio with the Rosary service at 6:00 P.M. Interment will be in the Saint Jean Baptiste Cemetery in Warren, Rhode Island.

Annette Marie (Williams) Hunter

May 3, 1940 ~ April 1, 2021 (age 80)

Annette Marie Hunter, age 80 of Georgetown, Ohio and formerly of Cumberland, Rhode Island died Thursday, April 1, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family. She was a 1958 graduate of the Sacred Heart Academy in Fall River, Massachusetts and the St. Anne's Hospital School of Nursing in Fall River, Massachusetts in 1961 and a member of the St. Patrick Church in Maysville, Kentucky. Annette was born May 3, 1940 in Swansea, Massachusetts the daughter of the late Clarence and Alice (Desjardins) Williams, Sr. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one son – Brian Hunter in 1992 and one sister – Marjorie Cardon.

Mrs. Hunter is survived by her husband of fifty-six years – David C. Obituary : Palmquist, Kent Alan 8/30/1968 - 12/2/2021

Ypsilanti, Michigan Kent Alan Palmquist, age 53, of Ypsilanti, MI passed away on Thursday, December 2, 2021. Kent was born August 30, 1968 to Sylvia Palmquist and the late Ronald Palmquist. Kent married Melissa Palmquist (ne Dockery) on November 3, 2021. The couple had recently celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary with a family trip to New York, where they made memories they will forever treasure.

 

Kent earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Michigan University in 1992. Kent and his father shared a love of flying. As part of Kent's early aviation career, he served as a pilot for the University of Michigan Survival Flight. He then went on to work for Delta Airlines and was most recently Captain on a Boeing 737. Kent was passionate about aviation and will be greatly missed by his extended family of pilots. As a child, Kent enjoyed hockey with his dad and brother and as an adult spent summers camping with family and friends. He also was a member of MOCSEM which allowed him to enjoy his passion for Mustangs.

 

Undoubtably, Kent's greatest accomplishment was being a father to Kyla and Drew. He was proud of his children and loved to spend time with them. He will be lovingly missed by his children who were the center of his family life. He is survived by his wife, Melissa Palmquist of Ypsilanti, MI, children, Kyla and Drew Palmquist, his mother, Sylvia Palmquist of Ann Arbor, MI, brother Kurt (Cassandra) Palmquist of West Chester, OH, and nephews and nieces, Sydney, Brooke, Cooper, and Max Palmquist, Austin and Ryan Mitchell. Further survived by his beloved dog, Pria. He was preceded in death by his father in 2016, and his pets, Bailey and Delta, both loving dogs, and Mr. Squiggles, the family guinea pig.

 

A visitation for Kent will be held Friday, December 10, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Muehlig Funeral Chapel, 403 S 4th Avenue, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48104. A visitation will occur Saturday, December 11, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 403 S 4th Avenue, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48104. A funeral service will occur Saturday, December 11, 2021 at 11:00 AM, 403 S 4th Avenue, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48104.

Notification with the passing of retired Pacific Northern/Western/Delta pilot Captain Ronald Lloyd Nelson, age 76.  Captain Nelson joined Pacific Northern Airways 01-16-1967 and made the mergers with Western Airlines and Delta Air Lines.  He was based SLC and later JFK.  Captain Nelson is survived by his wife Judy, his children and his grandchildren.

Obituary : Ronald Lloyd Nelson, 76, passed away peacefully at home on Nov. 24, 2021.

Ron had a lifetime career in aviation. He began his career with Munz Northern Airlines in Nome, Alaska. He flew for Pacific Northern Airlines, Western Airlines and retired from Delta Airlines as the 777 lead linecheck captain. Ron then worked for Security Aviation in Anchorage, Alaska. He flew the Gulfstream out to Shemya on a military contract. He ended his career with Hilcorp managing their Twin Otter.

 

Ron loved what he did; flying was not a job to him. Ron enjoyed hunting, boating, fishing and flying.

 

Ron leaves behind his wife, Judy; four children, Rhonda Nelson, Kyle Nelson, Ryan Nelson and Rachelle Wix; and seven grandchildren.

 

We lost dad one week ago. He succumbed to a myriad of health issues it seems, but he fought it all so hard that I really didn't see it coming. At least not so soon.

 

Dad was an inspiration to so many, not only to his children and grandchildren, but also to his flying community. He spent a lifetime in the air. He was a rare individual and truly a prince among men.

 

Dad became a mentor to many young pilots. When I recently mentioned this to a longtime friend of his, he said "Rachelle, your Dad was not only a mentor … but a Legend." And Dad really was.

 

But other than that, he was my daddy. He was the most sincere, forthright and honest man you could ever hope to meet. He knew everything. He had all the answers. He was the epitome of a father, maybe not always, but for sure when it really mattered. His love was the true definition of unconditional. for. every. one. of. us. All four!

 

I love you Dad. It's difficult right now at least, but I can tell you I promise to "press on" and "stay the course."

 

"Bye for now," keep your rod tip up and your line tight. Love you Dad.

 

A service will be held on Dec. 11, 2021, from 1-2 p.m., at All Saint's Episcopal Church. There will be a final Departure Event following from 2:30-5 p.m., at Ted Stevens International Airport in the North Terminal.

RHYNE, Jr., Plato Shields

On November 26, 2021 Plato Shields Rhyne Jr., 84, passed away peacefully at his home.

 

Plato was born to the late Plato Shields Rhyne Sr. and Miriam Rhyne. He graduated from College Park High School in 1955. He attended Emory University in Atlanta and graduated in 1959. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity.

 

Upon graduating from Emory University, Plato completed Aviation Officer Candidates School at Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola, Florida and was commissioned an Ensign in the United States Navy in 1959. Following Naval Flight Training, he moved west and joined VP-22 "Blue Geese" at NAS Barbers Point Hawaii. Plato flew the P-2 Neptune in the Pacific Theater with the mission of tracking Russian submarines during the height of the Cold War. Following his time at Barbers Point, Lieutenant Rhyne moved back east and joined the VT-28 "Rangers" at NAS Corpus Christi, Texas. He received orders to fly the T-28 Trojan as an Instructor Pilot and he loved his new job of training flight students over the Gulf of Mexico. In 1964 and following the completion of his orders at NAS Corpus Christi, Plato received an honorable discharge from the Navy. In 1965 he was thrilled to be moving east again and back home to Atlanta to start his career at Delta Air Lines. He flew the Convair 440, the DC 6 and 7, DC 9, DC 10, the Boeing 727, 757 and 767 and the Lockheed 1011. He was an assistant Chief Pilot and the Chief Pilot for the Atlanta base. He was Lead Line Check Airman B767 for the Flight Standards Department. He retired in 1997 after more than 31 years. After retirement, he went back to Delta as a full-time consultant in charge of hiring pilots. Of all his jobs, that one was his favorite.

 

Plato was a member of St. Luke's Presbyterian Church in Dunwoody where he sang for many years as a member of the choir.

 

He is survived by his wife, Judy Huskisson Rhyne, his son Plato Shields Rhyne lll (Margaret) as well as his three daughters, Amy Rhyne Reilly (Jack) Laura Rhyne Brown (Adam) and Natalie Rhyne Standard (Ben) his brother and sister-in-law, Bruce Rhyne (Pam) and his sister-in-law, Susan Huskisson. He has thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was a treasured husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and was deeply loved by his family and all those fortunate enough to know him.

 

A Memorial Service will be held on April 9th at 1 PM at St. Lukes Presbyterian Church in Dunwoody. Donations can be made to pancan.org.

From friends and family comes this news with the passing of Delta Golden Wings member retired Delta pilot Captain Plato Shields Rhyne Jr., age 84.  Captain Rhyne joined Delta Air Lines 09-13-1965 and was based Atlanta.  He is survived by his wife Judy plus many dear family members, friends and aviation colleagues.  Condolences may be sent to the family at 8895 Glen Ferry Dr., Johns Creek, GA   30022.  We understand that a Celebration of Life event will be held at a future date.  As more is learned we will pass along that information.

We have sad news to share from the Horan family….this news with the passing of retired Delta Air Lines F/A Sam Sampson, wife of Delta Golden Wings member retired Delta pilot Captain Jim Horan.  Sam was 71 years of age at the time of her passing.  Services will be private with inurnment at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.

Obituary : "Sam" Sampson (as she was affectionately known) flew her final flight West on November 20, 2021 after a 17-year battle with a very rare cancer first diagnosed in May 2004. Four surgeries and twenty-one months of chemo could not stabilize the tumor growth. Her husband, Retired Delta Captain Jim Horan was at her side when she passed in their Castle Rock home. Sam will be buried with a headstone at Fort Logan National Cemetery (DEN) since Jim was a retired Navy Captain. Sam was born in MKE on May 25, 1950 and attended UofW Oshkosh. She was hired by Delta for the May 31, 1977 Flight Attendant class. Initially based ORD but moved to ATL after she met Jim on a layover in CVG on July 25, 1982. They were married in JAX on August 31, 1983. Sam initially flew domestic in ATL but eventually moved to international. Jim retired June 1, 2000 and they then moved to their Colorado home. Sam retired with exactly 25 years on June 1, 2002. In MKE Sam was a ranked women's racquetball player. She always kicked Jim's butt when playing. I know she will be missed by all who knew her.
