Notice of passing ….retired National/Pan Am/Delta pilot Captain Oliver Grant “Tim” Locher, age 83.  Captain Locher began his commercial aviation career 06-19-1967 and retired with Delta Air Lines in 1999 based 030/ATL.  He is survived by his wife Karen along with their children and their children’s families.

Obituary : Oliver G. “Tim” Locher was called home to his Lord and Savior on 29 November 2022 at the age of 83.

Tim was born on 29 June 1939 to Oliver Glenn and Lela Barbara Locher in Bluffton, Ohio. The family moved to South Florida where Tim and his sister, Nan, attended Lake Worth High School. It was there that Tim enjoyed football and basketball. More importantly, Lake Worth is where God blessed him with the love of his life, Karen Thoureen.

 

After graduating high school in 1957, Tim accepted an appointment at the Naval Preparatory School and in 1958 reported to the U.S. Naval Academy with the Class of 1962. While at Annapolis, Tim played on the varsity football team and developed a love for the Mighty Goat.

 

Receiving his naval aviator wings in 1964, Tim flew the E-2 Hawkeye before transitioning to a career in civil aviation where he flew for National, Pan American, and Delta Airlines.

 

Tim and Karen were able to return to South Florida and raise their family in Hollywood, FL. While a member of Sheridan Hills Baptist Church, God began to utilize him in a more public way. Whether flying his commercial airline flights, serving as a Hollywood City Commissioner, Florida Southern Baptist Convention President, or on the International Mission Board, Tim strived to use his position to share the message of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

 

In 1999 they moved to Hendersonville, NC enabling them to be closer to family. Their lives centered around serving at First Baptist Church.

 

Tim is survived by Karen, his wife of 60 years; their children Gregg Locher (Ann) and Jill Jackson (Mark); grandchildren Lauren Rucker (Ben), John Jackson (Hunter), Kelly Shotwell (Jason), Hannah Locher, Garrett Locher (Delaney), James Jackson; and great-granddaughter Emery Jackson. Tim is also survived by his sister Nan Locher Rountree.

 

A Memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 am on 23 December 2022 at First Baptist Church of Hendersonville, NC. Visitation will precede the service at 10:00 am.

DL Capt. Mark A. Cothron

As noted in the recent November/December issue of The Air Line Pilot magazine, the passing of Delta pilot Capt. Mark Alexander Cothron, age 55.   Mark joined

Delta Air Lines 02-26-1998.

Mark Alexander Cothron of Allen, Texas passed away at the age of 55. He was born on December 27, 1966 to Leslie and Linda (Cornwell) Cothron in Fort Worth, Texas.  Mark graduated from Sam Houston High School and received his bachelor’s degree from Louisiana Tech in 1989.  He went to work as a pilot for US Air Express for several years before being hired by Delta where he spent the rest of his career.  He married Rebecca Menz on September 23, 2000 in Dallas, Texas.  He was a very involved father. He enjoyed hunting with his sons and coaching their baseball teams. Mark was an avid Long Horn fan.

 

He is survived by his sons, Jack Cothron, Charles Cothron, Henry Cothron; former wife, Rebecca Cothron; parents Leslie and Linda Cothron; brothers, Michael Cothron and wife, Kara and Keith Cothron; sister, Kristal; and numerous other loving family and friends.

 

 

DL Capt. Rolando A. Diaz

Military veteran, DL Capt. Rolando A. Diaz

JANUARY 6, 1958 – SEPTEMBER 17, 2022

 

As noted in the recent November/December issue of The Air Line Pilot magazine, the passing of Delta pilot Capt. Rolando Alberto Diaz, age 64.  Captain Diaz joined Delta Air Lines 01-28-1999.  He is survived by his wife Wanda and by his children and their families.

Obituary :  Rolando Alberto Diaz, 64, of Orlando, passed away on September 17, 2022.

He was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, on January 6, 1958, to Rolando Octavio Diaz and Felicita Vidal.

 

Rolando graduated from Dr. Santiago Veve Calzada High School in Fajardo, Puerto Rico, received a BA from Southern Illinois University, and an MBA from Colorado Technical University.

 

He married his college sweetheart, Wanda Socorro Recio, on March 30, 1979.

 

Rolando was a US Naval Aviator who proudly served for eighteen years. After retiring from the military, he began his career as a commercial airline pilot with American Eagle Airlines before transitioning to his position at Delta Air Lines, where he flew for twenty-three years.

 

He was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and the Airline Pilots Association. Throughout his life, he enjoyed piloting light aircraft, cycling, windsurfing, hang gliding, candle making, photography, remote control airplanes, and Fortnite.

 

Rolando is survived by his wife Wanda; daughters Carmen Marilia and Sonia Marie; son Ruben Alberto; granddaughters Maribel Elise and Julia Marie; and sisters Evelyn Vianette and Amarylis Lidiana.

 

Service will be held at Family Funeral Care on Monday, September 26, 2022, at 3:00pm. Come dressed in business casual attire, preferably in black or navy blue. Notice of passing ….retired Northwest Airlines pilot Captain John Kenneth Morley, age 83.  From a 2010 featured news article (see attached) we learn that Ken grew up on the Hawaiian island of Oahu.  After graduating from college, he joined the Air National Guard and with his military and aviation background, it led to his commercial flying career.  Ken joined Northwest Airlines 09-13-1965.  Ken was widowed in 2017 with the passing of his wife Linda.  Linda was born on April 24, 1942 and passed away June 4, 2017.   Ken and Linda had resided in Washington state for many years.

To date, arrangements for Ken are not yet known.  If more is learned, we will pass along that information.

DL Capt. Jon L. Geerlings

Notice of passing….retired Delta Air Lines pilot Captain Jon Lewis Geerlings, age 81.  Captain Geerlings joined Delta Air Lines 01-09-1969 and retired July 1997 based 030/ATL.  Widowed in 2018 with the passing of his wife Lou, Captain Geerlings is survived by his children and his grand- and greatgrandchildren.

Obituary :

Captain Jon Geerlings, 81 of Macon, GA, passed away Sunday, December 4, 2022.  A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 19, 2022, at Peachtree City Christian Church, Peachtree City, GA, officiated by Dr. George S. Dillard, III. Inurnment will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Westminster Memorial Gardens.

 

Son of the late Lewis Jennings Geerlings and Marion O. Rock Geerlings, Jon was a graduate of the Shelbyville Illinois High School. He participated on the football and track teams and was an avid trumpet player.  He received his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Southern Illinois University.  After college, he served as a pilot in the USAF, and later, retired from Delta Air Lines in 1997.  Mr. Geerlings was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church in Macon. 

 

Mr. Geerlings enjoyed family, golf, boating, listening to Johnny Cash, and Big Band music.

 

In addition to his parents, Mr. Geerlings was preceded in death by his wife, Lou Evans Geerlings and sister, Carol Wilcox.

 

Mr. Geerlings is survived by his children, Greg Geerlings (Cathi), Bryan Geerlings (Susan), and Ann Muscolino (Chris); grandchildren, Jessica (Fletcher), Cady (Connor), Claire, Spencer (Gabriela), Harrison (Ally), Chandler, Nicholas, and Josh; great grandchildren, Jaxon, Hiram, and Hudson.

Lou Geerlings

August 16, 1941 ~ July 28, 2018 (age 76)

Lou Geerlings, 76, of Macon passed away in her sleep on July 28, 2018. She succumbed to brain cancer after its sudden onset and a short, four-week period. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Northminster Presbyterian Church. The family will greet friends at 10AM until 12:00 PM at the Grande Ballroom at Carlyle Place. Interment will be at 4:30 PM at Westminster Memorial Gardens, 2090 Highway 54, Peachtree City, Georgia 30269. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Northminster Presbyterian Church, 565 Wimbish Road, Macon, GA 31210.

 

Mrs. Geerlings was born in Illinois and spent most of her life in Georgia, and a few years in South Carolina and Massachusetts. She worked as a school teacher in Fayette County and at The Heritage School in Newnan. She also worked for the Fayette State Bank and three prominent home builders in Peachtree City. She had a passion as a Master Gardner. She was a member of Newnan Presbyterian Church, and her current church was Northminster Presbyterian Church in Macon.
