Obituary...................In Memory of USAF Veteran, Delta Captain James C. West, Jr.

Captain James C. West, Jr. aka JC the AC, Jimmy Jet, Black Jack Shellac passed away August 8, 2018 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Jim was a tidewater boy, born in Richmond, Virginia and raised in Norfolk, Virginia where he graduated from Norview High School. He went to college at Virginia Military Institute (VMI), entered the ROTC Program and graduated in the class of 1962. He joined the Air Force in 1963 and was assigned to undergraduate pilot training class 64xI, Laughlin AFB, Del Rio, Texas from July 15, 1963-May 28, 1964. From there, he was assigned to MAC, 17th Squadron, Charleston, S.C. where he flew C124’s (Old Shakey) taking cargo/supplies all over the world including Vietnam during the war. The world was exposed to his sense of humor…an example comes to mind…when approaching Chateauroux AFB, France, the call to the tower was “Chateauroux, Chateauroux, this is 952. How do you do?” Jim resigned from the Air Force in February 1969 and immediately joined Delta Airlines, Class of March 1969. He flew Delta for 31 years flying DC-9’s, 727’s, L1O11’s, 757’s, 767’s and was a flight instructor for 5 years. Jim was known for his wit, great sense of humor and ready smile. Family and friends will miss him dearly; but he will always be remembered as the man he was. A Celebration of Jim’s Life will take place on Saturday, September 29th at 4 o’clock pm at Silverthorn Country Club 4550 Golf Club Lane, Brooksville, Fl 34609. Louise Wiggs Elliott, 92, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 21, 2018.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE: 12:30 p.m., Friday, August 24 at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Chapel, 5725 Colleyville Blvd., Colleyville.

MEMORIALS: Donations may be made to Richland Hills Baptist Church. Louise was born in Chalybeate, Miss., on September 14, 1925 to parents Earl Marcus Wiggs and Myrtle Meeks Wiggs. She graduated in 1943 from Chalybeate High School where she was valedictorian of her class. Upon graduation, she attended Blue Mountain College in Miss. On June 21, 1946, she married the love of her life R.G. ";Roscoe"; Elliott, also from Chalybeate. They began their married life in Fort Worth with Roscoe working as a pilot for Delta Air Lines and Louise as an executive secretary. In 1953, the Elliotts moved to Richland Hills, where they raised their two daughters. Louise was an active and dedicated volunteer in the Richland Hills community. When her daughters were young, she volunteered in PTA and Camp Fire Girls. She was a longtime, faithful member of Richland Hills Baptist Church and served as church hostess, Sunday School worker, and most recently, greeter. She also taught a ladies exercise class for over 20 years at Richland Hills Community Center and was chosen volunteer of the year. Louise is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 70 years, R.G. Elliott, and her brother, Earl Marcus Wiggs, Jr. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Louise's compassionate caregivers from Care Serve Private Duty.

SURVIVORS: Louise is survived by her daughters, Barbie Adair and husband, Jay, and Donna Mowdy and husband, Danny; granddaughter, Shelbi Goodman and husband, Charlie; sister Jean Ketchum and extended family and friends.

R.G. "Roscoe" Elliott, 93, of Richland Hills passed away on Monday, Dec. 5, 2016.....................

 

Roscoe, as he was lovingly known, was born in Chalybeate, Miss., on Feb. 3, 1923, to parents, Claude and Olen Elliott. He proudly served his country as a pilot with the Army Air Corps and was a World War II and Korean War veteran. He actively served and transported paratroopers to Normandy on D-Day.

 

He later dedicated 37 years of service to Delta Air Lines. He retired in 1983 as the most senior Delta pilot and was captain on the L-1011 TriStar..................................

Obituary.............Col. Austin Brewster Bates

Ketchum, ID - Col. Austin Brewster Bates flew west on Aug 13, 2018 in his beloved town of Ketchum, Idaho surrounded by the mountains where he skied for most of his life. His passing was peaceful and elegant, like the way he lived. Austin fought Parkinson's disease as the brave warrior he was, never complaining, consistently sweet and loving. His positive attitude, dedication to his country, his love for people and animals were felt by all who knew him.

 

Austin was born in Akron, Ohio on July 11, 1937 to Margaret and Paul Bates. He moved to Arizona in 1942 with his parents and three sisters, Maggie, Dorothy and Sandra.

 

He obtained his BS in Technology-Aeronautics from ASU, 1959. He graduated Marine Corps Officer Candidate School in Quantico, VA in 1959; Naval Flight School in Pensacola, FL in 1960, Communist Guerrilla Warfare School in 1961, Marine Corp Base Officer School in 1962; Naval flight instructor 1963; USAF Command and Control Technician, 1967; USAF Command and Staff Course graduate, 1976; USAF Air War College Volume I & II graduate, 1981. He also earned his Masters in Business Management from ASU in 1962.

 

Austin was commissioned as Second Lieutenant in the USMC, 1959. He was assigned as the advisor to the Republic of Vietnam with unrestricted aviator capacity, and served as Presidential pilot to the presidential family and province chiefs.

 

Six years active duty in the Marine Corp., Col. Bates acquired over 17,000 hours of flying time, never declining a mission, with a total of 240 missions during the Vietnam War. Following his active duty in 1965, Col. Bates transferred to the Air Force Reserve and joined the Arizona Air National Guard where he served an additional 16 years, for a total of 22 years of service to the United States of America.

 

Decorations and Awards: Air Medal - Six Oak Leaf Clusters; Air Force Outstanding Unit - Three Oak Leaf Clusters; Combat Readiness Medal - Three Oak Leaf Clusters; National Defense Medal; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Vietnam Service Medal - One Oak Leaf Cluster; Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon - Four Oak Leaf Clusters; Armed Forces Reserve Medal; Small Arms Expert Ribbon.

 

Additionally, Austin was active in the Boy Scouts throughout his life, and a charter member of the Phoenix Mens Art Council. A former member of the Scottsdale Chamber of Commerce, he held the office of External Director, Program Director and Parada Del Sol Rodeo Program Director.

 

In 1969, Austin began to fly commercially for Bonanza Airlines, Hughes West, Republic Airlines which eventually became Northwest Airlines and then Delta, and retired after 33 years at age 60. He continued to fly his private aircrafts after retiring and enjoyed horses, dogs and cats, business ventures, fishing, skiing, boating, eating, music and dancing. He was a true gentleman. He will be deeply missed.

 

Services will be held at 9:30 am, Tuesday, September 4 at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.

Obituary..........Robert Arthur Brandon

Pensacola Beach - Robert Arthur Brandon was born on April 28, 1950 in New York City. He died suddenly in New Orleans, Louisiana on Aug 14, 2018. His heart simply stopped. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Ann Brandon. He is survived by his wife Laurie and four sons, Michael, Patrick, Christopher, and Sam. Bob was also blessed with two grandchildren, Sawyer and Cooper. He is also survived by his stepmother, Dr. Janet Brandon. He was a prominent member of a large family with roots in Ireland and Czechoslovakia. He had four brothers and two sisters who will miss him greatly.

 

Bob attended High School in Hawaii and subsequently was appointed to the United States Naval Academy in 1968 and graduated in 1972. Upon graduation Bob was commissioned into the United States Marine Corps as a second lieutenant and began his flight training in Pensacola, Florida. He received his coveted "Wings of Gold" and embarked on his Marine Corps flying career. He served in the Marines from 1972 until 1979 and by his own admission the pinnacle of his career was being selected in 1977 to become part of the 1978/1979 Blue Angel Team serving as aircraft commander of the famed "Fat Albert." His flight suit, gear, and memorabilia are on permanent display in the McGuire's Blue Angel room here in Pensacola.

 

After leaving the Marine Corps Bob continued his flying career with Delta Air Lines from September 1980 until his retirement in January 2005 flying the B-727, Lockheed L-1011, and the B-737-800. It was while flying for Delta that he met and married his lovely wife Laurie.

 

After retiring from Delta, Bob resumed his flying career with Lifeguard Air Ambulance in August 2007 until September 2017 flying the Lear-35 on medical missions throughout North America as well as Latin and South America. There was no mission he would not undertake and once flew a small aircraft to the mouth of the Amazon River to evacuate an injured patient and return her for medical care in the US.

 

As if that was not enough flying, Bob again felt the "itch" to return to the skies and began flying the Beech BE-400 for Airmed International in June 2018 until his death. No pilot enjoyed flying more than Bob and he often remarked "I can't believe I get paid to do this." Bob never met a stranger, never failed to help a friend, and never missed an opportunity to socialize! He will be missed by all who were blessed to know and fly with him! Family requests donations to the Naval Air Museum in lieu of flowers.

 

"He was a man of warm and generous feelings; of unblemished Honor and Integrity; and with the most ardent Spirit of Loyalty. He maintained through Life a firm independence of Character."

 

Memorial service to be held in the Naval Aviation Memorial Chapel aboard NAS Pensacola at 10:00 am, 24 August 2018. Bob Brandon passed away Tuesday 8/14/2018 unexpectedly, while on call for an air ambulance company in New Orleans.

 

Bob was a Marine, Blue Angel “Fat Albert” Pilot, Delta captain before early retiring in 2005. He always about 68, USNA class of 1972.

Delta 1980-2005. MSY ATL and NYC based.

A great guy liked by all. Details of services are not known yet. There will be services on Pensacola. His home is on Pensacola Beach.His  wife Laurie Brandon is an active NYC based FA, formerly with Western.

Brad Lytton's interment service has been scheduled for September 11 at 11am at the Barrancas National Cemetery,  NAS Pensacola.

 

For base security requirements, those wishing to attend will proceed together from the funeral home (Waters & Hibbert, 124 W. Gregory St, Pensacola) at 10am to Barrancas.  After the service concludes, the procession will proceed to the Naval Air Museum for refreshments in the Cubi Bar (Brad's request).  

 

Also, the Blue Angels are scheduled to practice at 11:30 for about an hour.  There is seating for viewing behind the museum.

PROCESSION

The Naval Air Station requires that anyone who enters the base as part of a procession MUST  stay as part of the procession.  If a car leaves the procession,  the base will initiate a lockdown of all gates for security and will stop the car.

The procession will go to Barrancas from the funeral home.  After the service, all cars in the procession will be led directly to the Naval Air Museum for a reception at the Cubi Bar.  To enter the museum, you must have a photo ID.  Once the procession arrives at the Naval Air Museum, anyone can leave the base.  Those with military ID can leave via the main gate.  Those without a military ID leave by the back gate of the base.

Lewis Bradley "Brad" Lytton, 67, passed away on Friday, August 17th, 2018, at his home in Peachtree City, GA. He fought a courageous battle against cancer for 10 years and was ready to go home to his Lord.

Brad was born August 22, 1950, in Cincinnati, Ohio, and was the son of the late Lewis G. "Jerry" and Mary Jeanette (Henderson) Lytton. He is survived by his wife, Hope Hamilton Lytton, and they spent 35 years of loving life together. They were proud parents of one son, Jordan Houston Lytton, St. Croix, US Virgin Island, and grandson, Jace Benjamin Lytton. Also surviving are his brother, Jeff (Bernie) Lytton of Bedford, Indiana, and brother-in-law, Bobby H. Hamilton, Jr. of Louisiana, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Raymond M. Hamilton.

Brad was a 1968 graduate of Bedford High School in Bedford, Indiana, and a 1972 graduate of the Indiana University School of Business.

He was a decorated Naval Aviator and enjoyed flying as a pilot for 25 years with Delta Airlines. He loved flying out of Pensacola, Florida. He most recently retired as a Net Jets pilot. In 2017, Brad was awarded the FAA's Wright Brothers' Master Pilot Award and had a total of 50 years of flying.

His family enjoyed the travel benefits of flying and numerous vacations on the beach, and as an avid golfer he would always find a nearby golf course. Brad had a zest for life and a caring for people.

A Memorial service will be held on August 20th at Peachtree City Christian Church, 500 Kedron Drive, Peachtree City, GA. Family and friends are invited to attend at 4:30 pm, with the service beginning at 6:00 pm. Interment will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery at the Pensacola Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida.

Wanted to inform you of Brad Lytton's decision to forego any further cancer treatment and spend his remaining time at home under hospice care.  He has been battling this awful disease for 10+ years and his last attempt (more chemo) did not go well.
