Please forgive this belated notice with the passing of Delta Golden Wings member retired Delta pilot Captain Harry D. Spataro, age 89.  Captain Spataro joined Delta Air Lines 09-10-1956, and was based Chicago.  He is survived by his wife Patricia ‘Pat’, their children plus grand- and great grandchildren.  Memorial services for Capt. Spataro were held in Downers Grove, Ill.  Interment was private.

Harry D. Spataro, age 89, passed away at his home October 4, 2018.

Beloved husband of Patricia Spataro, nee Aiken; loving father of Carol (the late Don) Hendrick, Kathy (Ed) Forst and Judy Callans and step-son, Jon Scheidemantle; cherished grandfather of 6 and great-grandfather of 2; dear brother of Rose (the late Fred) Dillner, and the late Joseph P. Spataro.

Harry was a prominent area citizen of Downers Grove, retired Delta Airlines Pilot, former teacher, coach of many sports, Downers Grove Councilman and member of Downers Grove Lions for many years. He was an avid golfer and member of Village Greens Men's Club for 40 years. Harry was the Owner of Harry's Sweat Shop in Darien and Spataro's Sports Connections in Slippery Rock, PA. He was a 1951 Graduate of Slippery Rock College, and a Pittsburgh Pirates Baseball and Steelers Football fan all his life.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, October 20th, at 11:00AM at Divine Savior Church, 6700 Main St., Downers Grove, IL 60516. Interment Private.

CARES AND CONCERNS
Thank you to Dennis Baggett, son of retired Delta Captain L. Merle Baggett, 98, for sending us the sad news of his death Wednesday, October 24th.  Captain Merle was the oldest living "originally hired by Delta" pilot at 98+ years and was still very active even though Macular Degeneration had ended his driving capability.  He had no difficulty getting rides to activities though and was warmly welcomed by all of us who loved and respected him.  He was a stalwart Alpha Soda ROMEO breakfast meeting member and loved Delta Golden Wings.  Expressions of condolence may be sent to the family at:  Merle Baggett, 7920 Chancery Ridge, Duluth, GA 30097

Good morning Dave. I hope all is well with you and yours.

I’m sorry to have to tell you that Dad passed away yesterday morning. The last several weeks have been a blur of hospitalization (3 hospitals and 3 ambulance rides in the first 48 hours of this episode) and rehab as he fought off 3 infections (another UTI, cdiff and ecoli), and had both a temporary and permanent pacemaker implanted.

He was transferred from St Joseph’s Hospital to Dunwoody Rehab last Wed and was making very good progress (as usual). Yesterday, after a restful night’s sleep and a good breakfast, he was in good spirits and eager to proceed with the first PT session of the day.

While walking down the hall with the therapist, he suddenly collapsed. CPR and a trip to the St Joe’s ER were to no avail. He was w/o a pulse and non-responsive from the moment he collapsed in that hallway, so he passed away suddenly and without delay – pretty much the way he had hoped for (#1 choice was to simply sit down for a nap and ride that recliner off to heaven, but short of that, I know that he would be quite satisfied with checking out while taking a stroll).

We will be working on funeral arrangements today and I will update you when finalized . Please pass the word to the group and remember Dad in your prayers.

Bonnie C McCullough (widow of DL Capt of Mac McCullough)

We were just informed of the death in May 2018 of Bonnie McCullough widow of deceased DL Captain "Mac" McCullough. 

During the period of DGW presidencies of Bob Schorr, Rollin Jackson and Freddy Miller, Bonnie was the reunion event planner for the reunions for a period of time.  She specialized in event planning, and as wife of well-known "Mac" McCullough, one of our senior pilots, she did a most fantastic job of reunion planning  She started "After Reunion Events" which were well received. The activities were fantastic. She was well-known, well-liked and appreciated for her planning of these events.

Bonnie Lou Clark McCullough age 81, died peacefully at Port Orange, FL Assisted Living on May 26, 2018 after a long struggle with Parkinson’s. Bonnie was born October 15, 1936 the only daughter of Victor and Ruth Clark of South Bend, IN. She attended elementary school and High School in South Bend, IN. graduating in 1955. Her first job was with ATT as an operator in South Bend, IN. Living in the Miami area she met Captain Cecil G. “Mac” McCullough and they were married on Oct 15, 1977. In the late 70’s, they moved to the Daytona Beach area. In the early 80s they built their retirement home in the Spruce Creek Fly-In. Mac retired from Delta and they both enjoyed flying and participating in the activities at the Fly-In. Bonnie was a member of the Museum of Arts and Science and very active in the American Business Women’s Association. She was also the event planner for Delta Golden Wings planning many large gatherings all over the US. Bonnie is survived by her brother Nelson (Donna) Clark of Berne, IN., Son Keith (Kim) Corn of Port Orange, FL. Daughter Cindy Clark of Winter Park, FL. Special cousin Sharon (Robert) Brooks of Port Orange, FL. Grandchildren Dennis Jr, Brandon, Kenneth, Shianne, Bill, Elizabeth and Robbie; 10 Great Grandchildren, and many other family members. Bonnie was a member of All Saints Lutheran Church in Port Orange, FL. She was very active in the Children’s Program providing supplies and her time for arts and crafts for Vacation Bible School or the afterschool program. Her creative talents were well known in making hand decorated greeting cards that were donated to the church’s Relay for Life collection. She was also instrumental in creating the layout and display for a 400-piece Bethlehem Village depicting the Nativity every Christmas Season for 17 years. She was a very giving person to local charities and worked at the homeless shelter cooking and serving meals for the homeless. Bonnie was always willing to give of her time to assist anyone. Graveside services for retired Capt. Cecil Gordon "Mac" McCullough, 89, of Temple will be 1:30 p.m. Monday in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas.

 

Mr. McCullough died Monday, July 13, in a Temple nursing home.

 

He was born on March 15, 1920, to Amer Archibald McCullough and Adda May Karr McCullough in Collinsville, Okla. He was raised in Collinsville and attended Northeastern Oklahoma Junior College in Miami, Okla. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the China-India-Burma Theater of operations with the "Flying Tigers" in the 14th Air Force. Among his many decorations was the Bronze Star. He later flew as a pilot for Delta Air Lines for 34 years. He was a more than 50-year member of Collinsville Masonic Lodge................

 

Survivors include five sons, Gordon Mason McCullough of Irving, Jimmy Allen McCullough of Mount Shasta, Calif., Howard Lee McCullough of Camas, Wash., Larry Wayne McCullough of Clemson, S.C., and David Neal McCullough of Tyron, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Word has reached our group with the passing of retired Western/Delta pilot Captain James L Barstow, age 76.  Captain Barstow joined Western Airlines 06-05-1967 and retired with Delta Air Lines in 2001, and was based 030/PDX at the time of his retirement.

         As requested by friends and family, we pass along this message:

Obituary for Edward Harris Tegge

Edward Tegge, 96, of Rogersville, departed this life on Thursday, October 4, 2018, with his loving wife Sylvia by his side.

Edward was born on December 22, 1921 in Camden, New Jersey to the late Bruce Tegge and Mary Harris Cheeseman. He was a member of Rogersville Presbyterian Church, and he was a retired Airline Pilot having worked for National and Pan Am Airlines. Edward was a proud Veteran of the United States Navy having served his country during World War II.

He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Bruce Tegge and Carlton Tegge.

Those left to cherish Edward’s memory are his loving wife of 40 years, Sylvia Tegge; daughter, Rena Phillips (Dr. Hance); sons, Edward H. Tegge, Jr. (Sandra) and Ronald Dean Tegge (Maria); grandchildren, Wendy Gross (Danny), Jenny White (Tim), Karen Kreuzkamp (Doug), Heather Whitley (Alex) and Michelle Phillips.

The family will receive friends anytime at their residence.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, October 11, 2018, at the Rogersville Presbyterian Church, Rogersville, Tennessee with Rev. Rodney Norris officiating.

A Military Committal Service will follow and will be conducted by the Hawkins County Tennessee Post #21.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your local Humane Society.

The care of Edward Harris Tegge and his family has been entrusted to the staff of Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services.
