Notice of passing ….retired Northwest Airlines pilot Captain John Kenneth Morley, age 83.  From a 2010 featured news article (see attached) we learn that Ken grew up on the Hawaiian island of Oahu.  After graduating from college, he joined the Air National Guard and with his military and aviation background, it led to his commercial flying career.  Ken joined Northwest Airlines 09-13-1965.  Ken was widowed in 2017 with the passing of his wife Linda.  Linda was born on April 24, 1942 and passed away June 4, 2017.   Ken and Linda had resided in Washington state for many years.

To date, arrangements for Ken are not yet known.  If more is learned, we will pass along that information.

Notice of passing….retired Delta Air Lines pilot Captain Jon Lewis Geerlings, age 81.  Captain Geerlings joined Delta Air Lines 01-09-1969 and retired July 1997 based 030/ATL.  Widowed in 2018 with the passing of his wife Lou, Captain Geerlings is survived by his children and his grand- and greatgrandchildren.

Obituary :

Captain Jon Geerlings, 81 of Macon, GA, passed away Sunday, December 4, 2022.  A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 19, 2022, at Peachtree City Christian Church, Peachtree City, GA, officiated by Dr. George S. Dillard, III. Inurnment will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Westminster Memorial Gardens.

 

Son of the late Lewis Jennings Geerlings and Marion O. Rock Geerlings, Jon was a graduate of the Shelbyville Illinois High School. He participated on the football and track teams and was an avid trumpet player.  He received his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Southern Illinois University.  After college, he served as a pilot in the USAF, and later, retired from Delta Air Lines in 1997.  Mr. Geerlings was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church in Macon. 

 

Mr. Geerlings enjoyed family, golf, boating, listening to Johnny Cash, and Big Band music.

 

In addition to his parents, Mr. Geerlings was preceded in death by his wife, Lou Evans Geerlings and sister, Carol Wilcox.

 

Mr. Geerlings is survived by his children, Greg Geerlings (Cathi), Bryan Geerlings (Susan), and Ann Muscolino (Chris); grandchildren, Jessica (Fletcher), Cady (Connor), Claire, Spencer (Gabriela), Harrison (Ally), Chandler, Nicholas, and Josh; great grandchildren, Jaxon, Hiram, and Hudson.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Northminster Presbyterian Church, 565 Wimbish Road Macon, GA 31210.

 

Hart’s at the Cupola, Hart's Mortuary and Cremation Center, 6324 Peake Rd, Macon, GA 31210 has charge of the arrangements.

Lou Geerlings

August 16, 1941 ~ July 28, 2018 (age 76)

Lou Geerlings, 76, of Macon passed away in her sleep on July 28, 2018. She succumbed to brain cancer after its sudden onset and a short, four-week period. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Northminster Presbyterian Church. The family will greet friends at 10AM until 12:00 PM at the Grande Ballroom at Carlyle Place. Interment will be at 4:30 PM at Westminster Memorial Gardens, 2090 Highway 54, Peachtree City, Georgia 30269. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Northminster Presbyterian Church, 565 Wimbish Road, Macon, GA 31210.

 

Mrs. Geerlings was born in Illinois and spent most of her life in Georgia, and a few years in South Carolina and Massachusetts. She worked as a school teacher in Fayette County and at The Heritage School in Newnan. She also worked for the Fayette State Bank and three prominent home builders in Peachtree City. She had a passion as a Master Gardner. She was a member of Newnan Presbyterian Church, and her current church was Northminster Presbyterian Church in Macon.

USAF Dr. Fred Goldstein Gretan

Dr. Fred Goldstein Gretan, age 92, passed away November 26, 2022 in Thousand Oaks, California.  Dr. Fred was an outstanding USAF & FAA Flight Surgeon and AME for pilots worldwide.

Life Tribute

FREDERICK GOLDSTEIN GRETAN

 

Dr. Frederick Paul Goldstein Gretan was born to Ruth and William Goldstein September 9, 1930 in Brooklyn, New York. He died November 26, 2022 in Thousand Oaks at age 92 after a battle with Alzheimer’s dementia. His wife, Geri, was by his side.

 

Fred attended University of Buffalo and Leiden University in the Netherlands for medical degrees. He also attained a law degree in Montana and later completed a Master’s degree in Preventive Medicine and Aviation Medicine. He was an early member of Osher Lifelong Learning (OLLI) at CSUCI. Fred served in the Army of Occupation in Germany in 1956 as a Regimental Surgeon before returning to the US to serve as Flight Surgeon in the Air Force Reserve known as the “Hollywood Guard” in Van Nuys, CA. Freddie was truly a Renaissance Man with keen mind and a wonderful sense of humor.

Dr. Fred leaves behind three sons: Lawrence, Dan and David with his first wife, Audrey, as well as two stepsons, Jeff and Greg Maurer, and 12 grandchildren. Fred married Geri Retan Maurer in 1980 and they enjoyed 42 wonderful years together…even though “They said it would never last.”

Geri had worked with Fred and his wife in the early days of Fred’s new practice in 1960 in Thousand Oaks. Later, after both Fred and Geri had been single for about 10 years, they reconnected with a date at the swap meet. That was so Freddie. And the rest is history.

He loved being a Family Practice doctor after settling in Thousand Oaks in 1960 and his patients loved him. As time moved on, he was designated by the FAA to perform physicals and special issuance procedures for airline and private pilots, many of whom remained good friends across the years.

He retired in 1995 due to health issues, and he and Geri traveled and enjoyed family and retirement in Thousand Oaks. He had a passion for the sea and always possessed some kind of sailing or paddling vessel. Kayaking rivers and the Sea of Cortez and here in our local harbors were happy places for him. Cruises in the Caribbean always included scuba or snorkeling.

We are grateful to Marybeth and Lio at the Blessed Home Care, Board and Care Home for their love and devotion to the Fred they loved. A Celebration of Life is planned for later 2023.

 : WARREN ERICKSON OBITUARY

Warren Erickson, age 91, of Edina, MN, passed away on December 2, 2022. Warren was born March 29, 1931, and grew up in St Paul in a large and tight-knit family. From an early age he dreamed of flying airplanes and was able to realize this, retiring after 32 years as a 747 captain for Northwest Airlines. As a child, he would bike over to Wold Chamberlain field to watch planes take off and land. So dedicated to his passion, he lived with his parents during college to save enough money for flying lessons on the weekend. He joked it wasn't that bad as "tuition was only a couple hundred bucks" back then. In the Army he served as a Counterintelligence officer and worked all over Europe, visiting historic sites, enjoying the culture and motorcycling along the Mediterranean.

His first airline job was for TWA when he lived at a beach house on Long Island with other trainees. Eventually he landed his dream job at Northwest Airlines. When there was a layoff, Warren flew for two years for Air America, the clandestine CIA airline that supported the Hmong in Laos. Living in Tokyo and Thailand during this time gave him an appreciation for the arts and culture of the Orient.

After retiring from NWA, Warren expanded his interests in Chinese art, classic automobiles, antique airplanes, family history, and volunteering at the CES Food Bank. Always a lover of music, he joined the choir at Normandale Lutheran Church--he had not been in a choir since his days at Macalester College. Warren had many fond memories of family get-togethers, spending time at his grandparents' lake cottage and celebrating holidays together. He played poker with friends and swapped tales with old flying buddies. More important than his extensive travel and adventures all over the world were his family, especially his children Tracey Ohaus and Alan Erickson, and six grandchildren.

Warren leaves behind a loving wife of 21 years, Maxine Rossini, whom he met one fortunate night playing bridge. They continued their life together where he enjoyed traveling, reading on the shore of Lake Minnetonka, designing a new home where he created a Zen garden, and sharing many happy times with Maxine's caring children: Steve, Bob, and Michele. Just a few months ago they all enjoyed a cruise to Alaska together.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, December 12, at 10 AM at Normandale Lutheran Church, 6100 Normandale Rd, Edina, MN. Visitation one hour prior. Memorials may be made to Normandale Lutheran Church.

We have just received word that Ann Caverly has passed.  Ann was the widow of DL Capt. Eugene Swayne “Gene” Caverly III.  Ann is survived by her children and grandchildren.

Ann Henry Caverly; of Alpharetta went home to be with her Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday November 26; 2022. Ann was born in New Orleans; LA; where she grew up and later worked at the New Orleans Public Service Inc. (NOPSI). She then relocated to Atlanta where she became a flight attendant for Delta. She met and married the love of her life Eugene S. Caverly; III; a pilot for Delta. They were happily married for 57 years. She was a faithful member of Alpharetta First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed being a part of many organizations Daughters of the American Revolution; Colonial Dames; and PEO to name a few. She was preceded by her beloved husband Eugene S. Caverly; III.

 

She was adored by all her family and friends and survived by her son Eugene “Chip” Caverly of Alpharetta; daughters Caren L.
