___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our Flown West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Subject: DEATH OF RETIRED DL CAPTAIN JERRY CROCKETT

CARES AND CONCERNSI was called by Ron Crockett, one of Jerry's sons, to report that their father, retired Delta Captain Jerry Crockett, 93, died Tuesday night, December 10, 2013.  Jerry was a member of Delta Pioneers, Delta Golden Wings and was one of Delta's Oldest Living Pilots.

Jerry lived in Richardson, Texas for many years but had been visiting his son Steve's home in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.  Steve said that Jerry began to feel tired in June of this year and by the end of August he decided to take Steve up on his offer for him to come to Eureka Springs to live.  While there Jerry took several tests to try to diagnose his problem.  None of the many tests showed any particular ailment, but he continued to decline and by early December was too weak and confused to be taken care of at home.

At that time their sister Sarah who was there helping take care of him and Steve took him to the Doctor who checked him into the hospital with the hopes of transferring him to a nursing home near Steve's home. But he continued to decline and within a week of his admission passed away.  Ron and Steve were with him for the entire day he passed and have hopes he could hear them talking about all of the good times of which there had been many.

Jerry was born June 5, 1920 and hired by Delta November 7, 1949; he was based in Atlanta until 1969 when we moved to the Dallas area where he remained until retirement in May 1980.  His wife Mary Ruth Mashburn Crockett predeceased him September 14, 2010.

The body will be cremated and will be interred at the Dallas National Cemetery, probably sometime next spring.  One of Jerry's grandsons is an Air Force F-15 pilot and is currently deployed.  It was Jerry's wish that the whole family be together at his memorial service so it will be held when all can be there.

Steve is actually Jerry S. Crockett.  His sister Sarah lives in Augusta, Georgia and Ron lives in The Villages, Florida.  Expressions of condolence may be sent to the family at 45 County Road 1023, Eureka Springs, AR 72632, phone 479-981-0595, email  crockettps@earthlink.net

Please keep this family in your thoughts and prayers and I will send an obituary when one becomes available.

With warm regards,

Dave
