Notification with the passing of retired NWA pilot Captain Gavan D. Woods, age 75. 
Captain Woods joined Northwest Airlines 06-23-1989.  He is survived by his wife Mary Jane.

Obituary..........................
Woods, Gavan D. , age 75 of Grand Rapids, passed away following a long and courageous struggle with A.L.S. on Monday, July 4, 2016 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 27, 1941 in Gladwin, MI to the late Dan and Ruby Woods. Gavan is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Mary Jane [Koskuc], their 4 daughters Christine (John) Darby, Michelle (Todd) Habets, Jacqueline (John) Josephson and Danielle (Steve) Mazik, his grandchildren Megan, Bridget, Kaitlyn, Gavan, and Katherine as well as his brother Joe (Bobbie) Woods and his niece Jennifer and nephew Grant. When he was young, Gavan was active in the Boy Scouts achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Gladwin High School in 1959. He went on to attend and graduate from Central Michigan University with a B.S. in Biology as well as being a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. Gavan proudly served in the United States Air Force for 20 years as a command pilot of a KC 135 until his retirement as a Major in 1986. Following his service time he was a dedicated employee of Northwest Airlines for an additional 20 years obtaining Captain of the 727 before retiring. Gavan was a determined, hardworking, responsible and generous man. He had many interests including woodworking, cars, fishing, golfing, tennis, snow skiing, and water skiing. Gavan will be lovingly remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Funeral services are scheduled at Reyers North Valley Chapel on Sunday July 10, 2016. Visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. with a service with military honors to begin at 12:00 p.m. Many thanks to the Porter Hills home healthcare aides and Emmanuel Hospice for all of their loving care and support. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial gift in Gavan's honor to Friends of Michigan Veterans Homes, Inc. (P.O. Box 805, Grandville, MI 49468).
