DL Capt. Harold C. 'Slick' Slone

Word has been received of the passing of WWII veteran and Delta Golden Wings member Captain Harold C. ‘Slick’ Slone.  Captain Slone hired on with Delta 05-02-1946 and retired at the mandatory age 60 in 1981.
Captain Harold Clay Slone Sr., born August 21, 1921, 
passed away May 13th, 2012 at the age of 90.

Harold Clay Slone Sr. (1921 - 2012)
Harold Clay Slone Sr., 90, went to his heavenly home Sunday, May 13, 2012, in Arlington. Graveside service: 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Mount Olivet Cemetery, 2301 N. Sylvania Ave., Fort Worth. Visitation: The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington. Harold was born Aug. 21, 1921, in Fort Worth. His life as a Baptist Christian was lived with enjoyment, striving for perfection in all things: student, college TWC, pilot training and flight instructor. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1945, during World War II, as a Military Airlift Command pilot. He joined Delta Air Lines in May 1946 as a pilot and retired in August 1981 with the rank of captain after 35 years of service. Harold's zeal for jogging, hunting, world traveling and crossword puzzles was only surpassed by his love of family and friends. Harold was preceded in death by his first wife, Adelyn Marie Slone. Survivors: Wife, Betty H. Slone; son, Harold C. Slone Jr. and wife, Ree; stepdaughter, Betty Clark; grandchildren, Kelly and wife, Trudi, Amber and Collin; and numerous other family members.
