___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our Flown West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Contributor contact info is generally removed before posting (unless requested otherwise).

RE: Death of Joe Jr.

Mark,

Retired former Western/Delta Captain Joe Thomas sent the email below this
morning reporting the tragic death of his son Joe Jr. in a motorcycle
accident in Alabama where he lived. Joe Jr's wife Gini, riding with him, is
in critical condition at University of Alabama Birmingham Medical Center. I
tried to reach Joe today by phone and email but have not had a response.
No word on funeral details at this time. I will let you know if I learn of
arrangements.

It is my very sad and almost impossible duty to inform you good friends that
on Sunday morning, August 12th, at 10:15, I lost my best friend and son
Joseph Morgan Thomas Jr.
Joe and his beautiful wife Gini were on a bike trip to Columbiana, AL, about
1hr. ride, to help Joe's mom unload some furniture and then return to
Montgomery that afternoon. According to an eye witness, they were hit
broadside by a Mercury Marquis that ran a stop sign. Joe Jr. passed at the
scene. Gini is fighting for her life and undergoing surgery to hopefully
repair a shattered right leg at the UAB medical center in Birmingham. The
20 year old driver of the Marquis passed a breath test and was given a ride
home by the police. There have been no charges filed. I am told the case is
"under investigation". Your prayers for Gini are needed and will be
appreciated. I can not respond futher as I am on a hotel computer.
Sincerely, Joe Thomas Sr.

More details will be posted on the Flight West page when available:
