column of the January/February 2012 issue of Air Line Pilot/ALPA magazine. Born November 8, 1923, Wilbur L. ‘Bill’ Louthan Jr. was 88 years of age at the time of his passing December 16, 2011. Captain Louthan retired from Republic in 1983 at the mandatory age 60.

WILBUR ‘BILL’ L. LOUTHAN, JR., age 88, of Lombard, died December 16 at Manorcare at Hinsdale, Illinois.
Mr. Louthan is survived by his wife, Joyce R., nee Frank; his children, Carrie (Joe Jaruseski) of Lombard; David (Margaret) of Chicago Jeff of California, Janese (Steven) Nank of California, Jeanette Louthan of California, and Joy Petrey of West Virginia; his grandchildren Kathryn Jaruseski, Elizabeth Jaruseski, Joey Jaruseski, Alexander Louthan, Graham Louthan, Kevin Nank, James Petrey, and Rose Petrey; five sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Louthan was a resident of Lombard since 1959. He attended Ebinger Grammer School, Taft High School and Illinois Institute of Technology. He was a Veteran having served as a Pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II in Europe. He piloted a C47 on nine (9) combat missions in Eastern Theatre Operations including Ardennes, Central Europe and Rhineland. After World War II he served as an air traffic controller and then pilot for North Central Airlines – Republic Airlines from May 1954 to November 1983. As a WWII Veteran, Mr. Louthan spoke at the Lombard Commons Park Memorial Day Commemoration. He was a member of the Friends of the McChord Air Museum – Washington D.C. and the Airline Pilots Association.
Memorials to Walther Lutheran High School, 900 Chicago Avenue, Melrose Park, Illinois 60160-4198 OR St. John’s Ev. Lutheran School, 220 South Lincoln Avenue, Lombard, Illinois 60148 would be appreciated.
Visitation will be held Monday, December 19 from 4 to 8 PM at Brust Funeral Home, 135 South Main Street, Lombard.
Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, December 20 with Mr. Louthan Lying-In-State from 10 AM until the time of Service at 11 AM at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, 215 South Lincoln, Lombard.
Interment will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, Illinois.

My dad was a friend of Mr. Louthan and with their common interst in planes flying and WW2 he talked about how much he enjoyed talking about these things with him and that Mr. Louthan had a good sense of humor. Condolences but I'm sure they are having even more good times up above.
