We received word last evening that early Bonanza/AirWest/Hughes/
Republic pilot Captain Wilburn Julius ‘Bud’ Raithel was found deceased in his home yesterday. He was 92 years of age at the time of his passing. Captain Raithel’s passing comes on the heels of his wife Dorothy’s death on December 5th. Services for Dorothy were held December 11th. Captain Raithel’s services will be held Thursday, January 3rd, with visitation the evening prior. The Raithels had most recently resided at 115 S. Horizon Circle , Prescott AZ 86303-5658. News has reached us that Dorothy Mae Raithel has passed on at the age
of 88 years. Dorothy is the wife of early Bonanza/AirWest/Hughes/
Republic pilot Captain Wilburn Julius ‘Bud’ Raithel. Having married
on November 7, 1942, Dorothy and Bud recently celebrated their 70th
wedding anniversary. Born December 2, 1920, Captain Raithel
celebrated his 92nd birthday just prior to Dorothy’s passing.

    I always looked forward to a flight with Bud. We hunted together, argued regulations, and generally had a good ol time. He was a great guy and a good pilot. We kept up with each other over the years and I had just talked to him before Christmas. I'll catch up with ya someday Bud... I am sad.
