___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our Flown West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Contributor contact info is generally removed before posting (unless requested otherwise).

I want to post the below to Tom Malone's death notice:

Tom (my uncle) did fly his final flight on Oct 2, 2013, after a hard fought battle with Parkinson's and tumors on the left side of his face and neck.

Although his body gave out, his mind was clear until the end.  For those of us who knew him, all of his charm, wit and humor were there!

He was born and raised in Yonkers, New York.  Following high school, he joined the Air Force and learned to fly in the base flying club.  His airline career included: United, Eastern, Western, Icelandic (while on furlough from WAL) and finally Delta.

He found great joy in his career as a pilot, and hoped that those who follow will enjoy it much as he did.  To the end he loved telling stories from the "old" days, and was very much interested in the future of piloting and the airline industry.  He was very hopeful that today's, and tomorrow's pilots find the same high level of comradery that made his career so special.

I am sure that he had Saint Peter laughing.

Thanks to Carol MItchell for this sad information.
Dick
Hi Dick,
I don't know if Dick contacted you yet about our recent trip to see Tom and Beverly Malone in Sebastopol while we were in northern California for a graduation. Tom is in poor health due to Parkinson's. We learned that he has had 5 operations since Nov. of last year. The most recent was to remove a tumor on his face which was diagnosed with cancer. He has a 24/7 caregiver at this time. He walks using a walker now and has a feeding tube. His mind is still sharp and he enjoys phone calls. Beverly had a double lung transplant about a year and a half ago; so cannot lift anything heavy. We took her to dinner one night which she thoroughly enjoyed; and joined the family for dinner the next night. His daughter, Stephanie, lives and works in Sebastopol; and son Patrick was there too. The home number is 707-823-0159 and cell phone is 707-696-0103. I hope you will let the Western family know about Tom.
Thanks,
Carol Mitchell
Dick's wife
