___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our Flown West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Contributor contact info is generally removed before posting (unless requested otherwise).

 Obituary:   Ronald Stuart Davis

St. George, Utah

Ron Stuart Davis, age 71, departed this earth on March 18, 2014 in St George, Utah. His wife, Gloria, was at his side wishing him a smooth flight and a soft landing in God's hands.

Ron was born on February 1, 1943 in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Dorothy Hauenschild Davis and John Stuart Davis but grew up in Clearwater, Florida. When Ron was only 10 years old, his beloved "Granny" (Alta Davis), treated him to his first airplane ride, and his feet never touched the ground again. He knew from that moment that he wanted to be a pilot and wasted no time in reaching that goal. His flying lessons began when he was 15 and at 21 he joined Delta Airlines. Ron remained with Delta for 34 wonderful years. He took early retirement and continued his dream career with Boeing in Seattle, Washington. He loved that he was able to continue to fly and his work took him to some exotic, some not so exotic, countries all around the Globe.

Ron loved what he did for a living and unlike most of us; he considered his work his hobby. What a joy to look forward to every day. How great is that?

Ron was preceded in death by his first wife Katherine Klinke Davis (who died in 1990); with whom he had two sons: Carlton Stuart Davis and Paul Stuart Davis. His father, John, died in 1968 and his mother, Dorothy, died in 1982.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Gloria Davis; his sons Carl of Kent, Washington and Paul of Round Rock, Texas and their wives, Jeanette and Darhla; and four grandchildren: Brandon Vollmar of Fredericksburg, Texas; Katherine Davis of Round Rock, Texas; and Garrett Davis and Elizabeth Davis of Maple Valley, Washington.

Ron loved life and lively conversation. Along with his family and career, he immensely enjoyed the company of his friends. It was his wish that there be a "life celebration" at a later date. His instructions were "that everyone have a good time, tell a joke or two, and laugh and giggle." Gloria promised Ron that she would follow his instructions.

He also asked Gloria to take one last road trip with him and gave her very specific instructions on where to scatter some of his ashes. This too will be done! And a final request was the inscription on his tombstone: "ashes traveling"!

Ron traveled the world and clearly enjoyed an incredible life. He left his footprints on a lot of hearts. He will be sorely missed by his family and many friends.

If you wish to make a donation in his memory, Ron asked that you remember his favorite charity - Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah.
