NEA/DL Capt. George S. Haines

Word has been received with the passing of retired NEA/DL
pilot Captain George Haines, age 73. George Stanley Haines III was born/raised
in Massachusetts. He joined Northeast Airlines 12-02-1968 and retired with
Delta Air Lines in 2000. For the majority of his commercial aviation career
Captain Haines was based Boston, then PDX/030 prior to his
retirement.

Captain Haines is survived by his wife Maureen Moran Haines.

HAINES George 73, of Atkinson, New Hampshire, passed away
August 18, 2014, after a long battle with cancer. He was the loving husband of
Maureen (Moran) Haines. George Haines was born in Danvers, Massachusetts, grew
up in North Reading and was the son of the late George and Mabel Haines. He is
survived by his wife Maureen, two sons, George “Buddy” and William “Billy”
Haines; his daughter, Rebecca and husband Timothy Stevens; two step- children,
Jennifer Moran and Michael Gravelese; and four grandchildren, Will, Caroline,
Emily and Owen. He was predeceased by his sister, Katherine Haines. George
joined the Navy in 1958. He went on to join the Army where he spent 17 years
enlisted, leaving as an E5Major. He was awarded the New Hampshire National Guard
Commendation Medal for heroism in 1971. George worked as a Captain for Delta
Airlines from 1968 until his retirement in 2000. His passion for flying kept him
in the private sector as a Captain until 2011. He also loved traveling, hiking,
and spending time with his dogs, Katie and Piper. He will be greatly missed by
his family and friends. He left us all better than he found us. A period of
visitation will be held Friday, August 22, 2014 from 10 A.M. to 11:15 A.M. at
the Highland Chapel of Paul C. Rogers & Sons Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside
Avenue, AMESBURY, immediately followed by services at the funeral home at 11:30
A.M. Interment will be private for the family. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be
made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in memory of George S. Haines to support
cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box
