'Bob' Schmid Jr.
October 10, 1930 ~ October 13,
2015
We received notice of Capt. Schmid's
passing last week but only just learned of services last evening. Captain
Schmid was 85 years of age at the time of his passing. Bob hired on with
Western Airlines 06-10-1957 and retired with Delta Air Lines in 1990, based SFO
and LAX. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth 'Betty' and their children.
Services for Captain Schmid were held today in Jackson, Wyoming.

Bob & Betty moved from Arizona to
live full time in Wyoming about 4 years ago. I believe their current mailing

Robert Schmid, Jr. was born on October
10, 1930 and passed away on October 13, 2015 at the age of 85. "Bob" as he was
known by family and friends was a resident of Thayne, Wyoming. He is survived by
Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Schmid, his wife of 58 years. He is also survived by
three daughters: Lisa Cornelius and her husband, Ralph, of Corvallis, Oregon,
Karen Schmid of San Francisco, California and Gretchen Schmid of Jackson,
Wyoming, and three grandchildren Randy, Katie & Rhys. Bob is also survived
by two younger brothers, William Schmid and Otto Schmid, both of Minnesota and
his beloved dog, Runner.
Born in New York, New York, Bob grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota with his parents, Daisy and Robert Schmid, Sr. Bob completed his US Naval Cadet training in 1952, received his wings and then served in the United States Marine Corps (1952-1956) as a fighter pilot in the Korean War and then in the Marine Corp Reserves (1956-1964). After the military, he became a commercial pilot with Western Airlines for nearly thirty years, and then flew for Delta for another three. Bob was proud to fly as captain for 23 years of his long commercial airline career, something he had dreamed about since he was seven years old.
Bob was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt, fly fish and ski. Bob met his wife, Betty, skiing in Alta, Utah in 1956. Bob and Betty spent their most recent time enjoying the clean air and beautiful scenery of mountain living in Wyoming.
