He married Donna on December 12th, 1981 in Pensacola, FL and they were blessed with a son, Michael, and a daughter, Nicole.
Paul served honorably for 9 years as an active duty Naval Aviator. He flew
the F-4 Phantom II, the A-4 Skyhawk, and F-5 Tiger. In 1984, he was discharged
from Navy, and he accepted a position as a pilot for Northwest Airlines (later
merging with Delta Airlines). For 31 years, Paul flew a variety of passenger
aircraft, eventually becoming a captain and fight instructor for the A-330.
During Operation Desert Storm, Paul volunteered to fly troops overseas to their
deployment stations. In the aftermath of 9/11, Paul joined the Navy Reserves
where he served in a variety of roles, including a deployment to Iraq during
Operation Enduring Freedom. He retired from the Navy Reserves as a Commander in
2014.
Paul enjoyed camping, and could often be found canoeing in the Boundary
Waters on the northern border of Minnesota. He also loved to snow ski and travel
with family and friends. Even though he was a pilot by trade, he enjoyed flying
in his down time as well. Paul flew for the Fleming Tigers Fighter Squadron,
where he introduced people to simulated aerial combat, and he was a member of
the Minnesota Soaring Club where he flew gliders. Paul also enjoyed singing in
the barbershop choir, the Minnesota Commodores.
Services will be held at noon on Tuesday, November 17th at Waters &
