Martin "Marty" J. Barron, 59, of South Portland, died Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Maine Medical Center.
Born in Milton, MA, Marty was the son of the late Martin A. and Joanne
(Leavitt) Barron. He attended Holy Cross School, Cheverus High School, and St.
Francis Xavier University of Nova Scotia.
After college, Marty honorably served his country in the United States
Navy. A pilot, he began by flying the P-3 Orion and continued his love of being
airborne flying commercially for Delta Airlines. Marty also had a passion for
education. He taught chemistry at Cheverus High School for 8 years and more
recently worked as an Adjunct Professor in the Chemistry Department at Southern
Maine Community College.
A talented craftsman, Marty enjoyed carpentry and working on
various jobs around the house. His proudest project and ultimate gift to his
wife was the renovation of his cottage on Long Island, where he enjoyed spending
summers with his family and friends. Marty was an avid runner and music fan who
loved to crank tunes any chance he got. He learned to speak German as an adult
and took many trips there to meet friends and explore. He loved a story, a joke,
and a beer. He was a faithful communicant of St. Bartholomew Church in Cape
Elizabeth.
Above all else, Marty was devoted to his family. He was a
beloved husband, brother, father, and grandfather. He was so thrilled with every
moment he had as the Papa Bear of his three granddaughters; Lucy, Carly, and
Mary Mooney.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 18 years, Carlene Barron
of South Portland; his children, Elizabeth Barron of Portland, Catie Brannelly
and husband Sean of Portland, Andrew Barron and wife Sarah Jump of Portland,

wife Delphine of Huntington Bay, NY; Sister and brother-in-laws: Roy and Deborah
Barry of Naples, FL; Jim and Beverly VanBuskirk of Littleton, CO; Kenneth Brock

nephews.

Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 4, 2016
