Resided in St. Petersburg,
Florida
William (Bill) H. Hagedorn, 65, of St. Petersburg, FL passed
away Thursday, January 24, 2019. Bill was born in Fort Walton Beach, FL on April
22, 1953. He graduated from Choctawhatchee High School in 1971 and The
University of West Florida in 1977. Bill was commissioned as an Ensign in the
United States Navy. Upon completion of Naval Flight Training, Bill earned his
wings of gold in February 1980. He was assigned to fly the Antisubmarine Warfare
P-3 Orion aircraft where he served in Patrol Squadron 56 (VP-56). After serving
in the Fleet and making several deployments, Bill became an instructor at NAS
Whiting Field, teaching Student Naval Aviators in the initial phase of flight
training. Bill took pride in his ability to develop numerous successful Navy and
Marine Corps pilots. Bill left US Naval service in September 1985 and began a
career with Northwest Airlines. During 20 years at Northwest he flew numerous
aircrafts in the US and overseas including the Boeing 727, the DC-10, and the
Boeing 747-400. Bill retired in 2006 as a Captain on the Boeing 757. Bill was
known to his fellow pilots as a most dedicated and meticulous aviator. Bill also
had a passion for boating and was a member of the St. Petersburg Yacht Club. He
enjoyed socializing with his many friends and neighbors and particularly enjoyed
weekly lunches by boat with the ORG's (Old Retired Guys) as well as his lunches
at The Wharf with his group of pilot friends. Bill had a quirky sense of humor
and enjoyed teasing his friends and making other laugh. Everyone who knew Bill
will miss him dearly but none as much as Amazon Prime. Bill is survived by his
wife Tammi of 34 years, his sister Carol Shaw (Bryant), sister-in-law Gloria
Thomas, Mother-in-law, Hilda Lee and his beloved dog, Bailey. Bill also had two
nephews, David Shaw and Tony Shaw (Kelly), a niece Stephanie Johnston (Sully)
