Obituary for Mrs. Suzanne
Brierly-Young....................
On the evening of March 24, 2019, Suzanne Brierly-Young passed
away peacefully at the Care Center at Delray Medical Center, Delray Beach, FL.
She was predeceased by her parents and younger sister, Anne
Fischer.
Suzanne was born with her twin sister, Jean, in Union City,
Indiana, on February 20, 1949, to Gene and Aileen Brierly. Suzanne worked in her
family's business, Gene’s Bakery and Delicatessen, throughout high school and
college. She attended Purdue University and graduated with a major in English.
She then joined Delta Airlines as a flight attendant and flew for over 38 years
until she retired in 2009.
During her career with Delta Airlines, she visited most of the
cities in the United States that were served by Delta. When Delta started
service to the Western Pacific in 1985 to Tokyo, Japan, and Seoul, South Korea,
Suzanne flew those flights from Portland, OR. During her time with Delta, she
lived in Chicago, IL; South Florida; and Vancouver, WA. She cherished the many
friends made, and the relationships forged while working for Delta.
In 1997 Suzanne acquired her first Quarter horse and was
captivated with the equine world. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to
Wellington, Florida, to be able to live with their horses. In 2006 she was
introduced to the Irish Draught breed and welcomed the first foal in 2010. She
loved being part of the equestrian community and valued the friendships she
made. Suzanne loved her dogs: Nova, Ellie, and Stella whose unwavering devotion
brought her companionship and joy for many years. They were very close to her in
the last two years of her life, never leaving her side.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 41 years, Brian
Young; her three daughters, Caitlin, Kelley, and Barbara; her sisters, Jean
Olson (NH) and her older sister Sharon Wand (AZ). She leaves behind
grandchildren, Wyatt and Lindsay; numerous cherished nieces and nephews; along
with her many treasured four-legged friends that kept her company until the end.
When she observed Guide Dogs working at the airport, they
always brought a smile to her face. She often talked about the importance of
their job and how travel for some people would be impossible without them. In
lieu of flowers, donations to the Guide Dog Foundation: Pilot Dogs, Inc located
in Columbus, OH, would be appreciated. They are Located at https://www.pilotdogs.org/
On Monday, April 8, 2019, there will be a private burial
service for the immediate family at Garland Brook Cemetery in Columbus, Indiana
with the Rev. Patrick Galligar officiating.
Arrangements were made by Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral
Home.
