Belated news....as reported recently in the April issue of ALPA Air Line Pilot magazine’s In Memoriam column, the passing of retired Southern Airways/Republic Airlines pilot Captain Carl John Hesse Jr.  From what I can determine Carl first joined Southern Airways, was 86 years of age at the time of his passing, and is survived by wife Betty. 
But I was not able to locate an online obituary so my information is to the best of my knowledge.
Per whitepages listing, Carl had most recently resided in Tennessee:
