is planning a memorial for Bob on October 17th, 2020 beginning at 1 p.m. He
passed away April 18, 2020. Bob was a NAL/PAA/AIA/DAL Flight Engineer and past
treasurer of the NAL Buccaneers.
The event will be held at their home located at:

Robert Theodore Thrasher
July 9, 1942 - April 18, 2020
Robert Theodore Thrasher, 77, passed at his home in
Fruitland Park, Florida, after a long illness. He was born in San Francisco,
California to Thelma Cluny and Robert Theodore Thrasher. His father, whom Bob
never met, died on March 5, 1943 when the submarine USS Grampus on which he
served, was lost in the Solomon Islands. Bob’s mother returned to the family
home in New London CT. She eventually married Robert Tucker, a Navy Petty
Officer. The family moved to Key West, where Robert attended grade and high
school. He worked at the Key West airport where he learned to fly. In 1961 he
enrolled in Embry Riddle earning FAA
A&P and later, commercial pilot certification.
In 1963 Robert worked as a flight mechanic for Capitol
International Airways in Germany where he earned flight engineer certification.
In 1964 he was hired as a flight engineer by Airlift International. In 1966 he
married Sharon Oberly and was based in Hawaii flying in and out of Vietnam
during the war on DC-7’s. In 1968 he was hired as a B-727 flight engineer by
National Airlines. He remained there until the merger with Pan Am in 1980. He
flew both the B-727 and B-747 until the company closed in 1991. He then
continued with Delta Airlines from which he retired in 2002. Aircraft types flown included B-17, B-25,
B-26, DC-3, DC-4, DC-6, DC-7C, C-46, Lockheed Loadstar, L-749, L-1049G & H,
Boeing 727 and Pan Am 747, as well as a variety of small or light airplanes.
Robert is survived by his wife, Sharon, son Dana
(Christine), son John Rowell (Isabel), daughter Tanya White (Dan), brother
Conroy, sister Shelley. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and 5 great
grandchildren
Due to the COVID 19 restrictions, a Celebration of Life will
be held at a date yet to be determined.
