PAA/DL Capt. Robert Ronald Dzimidas


Belated news, as noted in ALPA’s In Memoriam column, the passing of PAA/DL pilot Dzimidas, Robert Ronald Capt…….

PAA/DL Capt. Robert Ronald Dzimidas
February 7, 1938 ~ December 3, 2018 (age 80)

Captain Dzimidas joined Pan American 02-28-1966 and retired with Delta Air Lines in 1998.  He is survived by his wife Katherine ‘Kitty’ as well as many other family members.  Obituary information and a family photo video is available for viewing online at https://www.stanfillfh.com/tributes/Robert-Dzimidas

Obituary………………… Captain Robert Ronald Dzimidas “Bob” was born February 7, 1938 in Marquette Park, Illinois then, a Lithuanian community south of Chicago. His parents were Anthony and Stella Dzimidas.

After high school, Bob joined the US Air Force and served as a mechanic at home and abroad. After his armed forces service, he entered the University of Illinois School of Aviation. He was hired as a pilot by Pan American World Airways in 1966. His first base was Hong Kong, flying R&R for U.S. soldiers in Vietnam. He later was based in Berlin flying the inter-erman service routes to West Germany. After transferring stateside, he met flight attendant Katherine "Kitty" Ellis and they were married in 1976.

Before the demise of Pan Am, Bob transitioned to Delta Airlines when they bought Pan Am's transatlantic routes. He served as Captain and, after mandatory retirement age, as flight engineer.

He is predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Tony and Daryl. He is survived by his beloved wife, Katherine "Kitty," daughter, Holly Kwon Day and son-in-law, Adam Dean Day. Before his passing, Bob was happy to know that there will be a first grandchild born this coming April.
