DL Capt. John Charles Byrne

April 5, 1942 - January 21, 2021

 

On January 21, 2021, John Charles Byrne, loving father and grandfather passed away at the age of 78 in Prescott, Arizona. John was born in Greenfield, Indiana. After studying at Indiana University, he served in the United States Air Force and went on to spend his career as a Captain with Delta Air Lines. John had a passion for music and travel, especially to his favorite destination - Ireland. He was known for his quick wit, infectious smile, melodic whistle and his kind and compassionate spirit. May the road rise up to meet him. John was preceded in death by his father, Jack, and his mother, Millie. He is survived by his daughter Melissa, son Greg, daughter-in-law Sarah, grandsons Grady and Spencer and sister Shannon Schlafly. Services will be held later this year when it is safer to gather.

Word has reached us with news of the passing of Delta Golden Wings member retired Delta pilot Captain John Charles Byrne, age 78.  Captain Byrne joined Delta Air Lines  05-02-1969 and retired with Delta in 2002, based 031/ATL at the time of his retirement.  Friends write:  “Please note the passing of Capt. John C. Byrne a few days ago. He was based in DFW and LAX and spent  a lot of time in ATL as a member of Pilot(neé) Flight Standards back in its early stages as the B-737 Chief Check Pilot. He was also the Asst Chief Pilot for LAX. He had been living in Prescott, AZ.”
