Navy veteran, PAA/DL Capt. Norman Duane Burley

September 01, 1936 - January 15, 2021

 

Notification with the passing of retired Pan Am/Delta pilot Captain Norman Duane Burley, age 84.  I believe Captain Burley joined Pan American 01-24-1966 (roster is hard to read) and retired with Delta Air Lines.  Widowed two years ago with the passing of his wife Rosemary,  Captain Burley is survived by his daughter, his granddaughter and his great granddaughter.

Obituary  :  Norman Burley, 81 of Herrin, died Friday, Jan. 15, 2021.

Born Friday, Sept. 1, 1939, in Michigan to Charles and Mable (Dockem) Burley, he is survived by a daughter, Dixie Sharp of Edwardsville, granddaughter Rhiannon and husband Nicholas Harvey of Godfrey, Ill., and great-granddaughter Olivia Harvey. He also has three sisters, Pearl Armstrong, Donna Carlyle and Doris Rude, and one brother, Lloyd, all of Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Rosemary Burley.

Norman was an airline pilot for Pan Am and Delta. He retired in 1994 and then worked as a real estate agent for Coldwell Bankers, and then opened Dream Flight Powered Parachutes.

A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, 2021, at Van Natta Funeral Home, Herrin IL. Interment will be in Herrin City Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m., preceding the funeral.

Rosemary Burley    ….     July 18, 1937 - February 28, 2019

Rosemary Burley, 81 of Herrin, Illinois died on Thursday, February 21, 2019, at her home in Herrin, Illinois.

She was born Sunday, July 18, 1937 in Herrin, she was the daughter of the late William Lang and the late Vida Coon. She was the wife of Norman Burley he survives of Herrin.

Surviving is daughter, Dixie Sharp of Edwardsville, IL. i granddaughter, Rhiannon and Nicholas Harvey of Godfrey, IL and 1 great grand daughter, Olivia Harvey. She also has 1 brother William of MI. She was preceded in death by 1 son Norm, 1 sister Elizabeth, 1 brother Johnnie. She was a avid bowler , member of the Red Hat Society and the Joy Makers.
