Captain George Frederick Martin

Word has reached us with news of the passing of RNPA member
retired North Central/Republic/Northwest pilot Captain George
Frederick ‘Sarge’ Martin, age 78.
Friends write that Captain Martin
had suffered with dementia. First joining North Central Airlines, Capt. Martin
made the various mergers and was promoted to VP of Flight Ops by Northwest
Airlines. He retired with Northwest in 2002. Widowed in April 2020 with the passing of his
wife Cheri, Captain Martin is survived by his children and grandchildren. Obituary information is available online at

Obituary : George F.
'Sarge' Martin
Martin, George F 'Sarge' Age 78 of Edina MN, passed away
peacefully March 29, 2021. He fought a long and courageous battle with
Parkinson's disease and Dementia. Preceded in death by his wife, Cheri (April
13, 2020) parents, Wayne and Fay Martin. Sarge is survived by; children: Todd
(Judi) Martin, Kelly Martin; 5 grandchildren: Connor, Bella, Parry, Mollie and
Ally: Sister; Ginger Norris. Sarge began his airline pilot career with North
Central Airlines in 1966 and continued on with Republic Airlines, finishing his
33 year career as a Northwest Airlines pilot. Sarge was a loving husband,
father, grandfather and friend. He will be missed by many. A celebration of
life to be determined at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred
to the Parkinson's Foundation.
