Notification with the passing of retired Pan Am/Delta pilot Captain Dennis Evan Greulich, age 82.  Captain Greulich joined Pan American 06-20-1966 and retired with Delta Air Lines.

Obituary  :  Dennis Evan Greulich, 82, of Ruscombmanor Township, died April 12, 2021 at Penn State Health - St. Joseph, Bern Township.  Born October 30, 1938 in East Greenville, Montgomery County, he was a son of the late Paul B. and Esther I. (Reiter) Greulich.  He was the loving companion for Joan A. D’Alonzo, with whom he shared 42 years.

 

Dennis was a graduate of Upper Perkiomen High School; he then graduated from the ROTC program at University of Kansas, where he was a Jayhawk.  He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy as a flight trainer and instructor.

 

Dennis was employed as a pilot with Pan America World Airways for 36 years, and subsequently, with Delta Airlines, for 10 years, retiring as Captain in 2001.

 

After retirement, he worked on the Colebrookdale Railroad, where he helped to lay track, and was a conductor.

 

A train collector, he was also an avid gardener, and enjoyed running with Joan, especially the roads of Oley and Fleetwood.  He completed a full and half marathon.

 

Dennis was a very strong and active member of Alcoholic Anonymous for 44 years.

 

Surviving are his two children: Ray Greulich, widower of Sally (Nuttle) Greulich of Sand Springs, OK; and Lisa N. Hubbard of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; and his two step children: Shara A.M. Townsend of Coatesville, PA; and Christopher S.M. Tompkins of Pennsburg, PA.

 

Other survivors include his four grandchildren: Ian R. Greulich, Melissa A. Wahl, Douglas R. Greulich, and Evan D. Hubbard; and his four step grandchildren: Morgan Townsend, Sydney Townsend, Joseph Tompkins, and Thomas Discipio. Also surviving is his brother, David, husband of Pauline Greulich of Allentown, PA.  Dennis was preceded in death by two brothers: Donald Greulich and Daniel Greulich.

 

A viewing will be held Saturday April 17th from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. at Stitzel Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 423 Main Street, Oley.  Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
