___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our Flown West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Contributor contact info is generally removed before posting (unless requested otherwise).

Obituary  :  Kenneth R. Goodwin

Kenny Goodwin, 64, went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 in Runaway Bay. His passing leaves a void that will not easily be filled.

Kenny was born on November 16, 1956 to Ronnie Dale and Betty (Smith) Goodwin in Texarkana, Texas. He spent his childhood years in Hooks, Texas and spent many of his “younger” years working on his grandfather’s dairy farm.  Upon graduating high school he attended the Air Force Academy and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. During that time, he served as a Pilot Instructor as well as spending time in Korea.  After service life he was employed by Delta Air Lines for 33 years as an international pilot. He retired in October, 2020 where he flew 7 different aircraft, was based in 4 different hubs, and flew over 29,000 hours.

Kenny was sought after by his neighbors and friends for his smoker skills and a taste of his world renowned brisket.  He was an avid fisherman and spent many years trying to hook the big one with his favorite fishing buddies!  He also served as an officer for the Texas Bass Federation. One of his favorite things was watching the Cowboys play (and mostly lose) as well as the Texas Aggies.  Of all the opportunities Kenny had, his greatest joy was that of being a Father and most recently graduating to the title of Opa!

He was preceded in death by his parents and his nephew SPC Alex Missiledine.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Nancy Goodwin of Runaway Bay; and beloved children, Brandon James Goodwin and fiancé, Allison Burns of Sachse; and Kathleen Nicole Goodwin-Schuster and husband Glenn of Prosper; grandchildren, Adelheide (Heidi, 3 years) and Baby Slade, coming soon; sisters, Loretta Goodwin of Corsicana; Janette Gentry and husband Curt of Phoenix, Arizona, and brother, Rusty Goodwin and wife Robin of Tyler; several nieces and nephews; numerous extended family members and a host of colorful and lovable friends; and a heck of a lot of fishing gear for Nancy, who has no idea what to do with it all.

Memorial Service will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 17, 2021 at the RB Golf Club and Resort in Runaway Bay. Rev. Ollin Collins will officiate.

Kenny was such a kind and generous man and had many interests so in lieu of flowers please feel free to donate to your favorite charity in his memory.
