Notification with the passing of retired North Central/Republic/Northwest Airlines pilot Captain David Leslie Dawson, age 78.  Captain Dawson is survived by his wife Linda, his children and his grandchildren.

Obituary :  David "Dave" L. Dawson

Born in Vandalia, IL

Resided in St. Charles, MO

 

David “Dave” Leslie Dawson, of Saint Charles, MO, passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at the age of 78. Beloved husband for over 48 years to Linda Dawson; cherished son of the late Les and Lois Dawson; devoted father of Jennifer Dawson, Jeff (Revonda) Dawson, and Suzy (Jake) Olejniczak; loving grandfather of Daniel, James, Ethan, Rachel, Jordan, Caleb, Joshua, and Asher; dear brother of Steve (Judy) Dawson, Fran (The late Jack) Gardiner, Ron (Marla) Dawson, and Mart (Bob) Rennels; David was a loving uncle, cousin and a friend to many.

 

Dave proudly and honorably served in the United States Air Force for over twelve years. He was an F4C fighter pilot in Vietnam, a T38 Flight Instructor in Del Rio, Texas and flew the C9 out of Scott Air Force Base. While serving in the Vietnam War, he was awarded 11 Air Medals and 3 Distinguished Flying Crosses. Dave was a dedicated commercial airline pilot for many years  with North Central Airlines, Republic Airlines and Northwest Airlines. He was an avid Cardinals baseball fan who loved going to games and watching his team win. Dave cherished making memories with his grandchildren and would personalize their time together to be special to each one. Dave and Linda enjoyed traveling, especially in their Motorcoach. They enjoyed Square Dancing for over 30 years. Winters found them enjoying the sunshine in Naples, Florida. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother who was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

 

Memorials may be made in Dave's name to Juvenile Diabetes Association.

  1. I did not know Dave but we can all be proud of his service to our Country. I ,too, am a Vietnam veteran with several medals also and salute him for his service.
