As a military brat, Jim moved all over the world, including his favorite tour in Seville, Spain. He graduated high school in Marietta, GA, where he met his future wife, Lauren. They were married in 1975 and had three daughters: Brianna, Chelsea and Laurie. Jim earned a master's in engineering from St. Mary's University and began his distinguished and decorated career as an Air Force Officer and Pilot. Obituary : Richard D. Moynihan was born in California July 3, 1949. He was the third-born of six children and grew up in Pomona, CA where his father practiced dentistry. He attended Pomona Catholic High School. Rich then graduated on to San Jose State University and married his high school sweetheart Marie in 1971. He joined the Navy and entered pilot training. During this time, he and Marie moved around the country, living in Pensacola, Corpus Christi and Alameda making friends and connections every place they went. Once he completed his service in the Navy, he was hired by Hughes Air West and Rich, Marie and their new baby boy Brian settled in Boulder City. A couple years later, they added a baby girl Melissa to the family and they were complete. Rich and Marie loved living in Boulder City and developed a community of lifelong friendships. Eventually Hughes Air West merged with Republic, then Northwest Airlines and finally Delta. Sadly, Rich lost Marie in 2004, but was lucky to find a second love through the crafty matchmaking skills of some lovely Boulder City friends and married Evelyn in 2009. Rich retired from Delta in 2010 and has been living it up ever since. He finally finished his RV-7 and flying it became his passion and favorite hobby. He was never as happy as he was flying his zippy little plane. He loved going to his hanger, working on his plane, rebuilding his Porsche 356 as well as a VW Thing. Rich could fix anything! The breadth of his skills and knowledge were unmatched. He also loved the community of pilots and staff at the airport and enjoyed serving on Boards at the BC airport. Rich also relished his retirement by traveling to many places around the world with Evelyn, cruising with his Porsche club, spending summers in Tahoe and visiting often with his three grandsons, Owen, Brady and Rory. Rich loved teasing people, the more he teased you, the more he loved you. Rich loved life and led a very happy and full one. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Dodd; son, Brian Moynihan; daughter, Melissa McCool (Moynihan); son-in-law, Sorren McCool; grandsons, Owen McCool, Brady Moynihan and Rory Moynihan; stepdaughters, Dena (Tito) Jimenez, Devon Dodd, Zoe Dodd and Tracy Brewer; stepgrandsons, Max, Sebastian and Zach; brothers, Bob, Jeff and David; and sisters, Libby and Theresa. Mass will be at 10 a.m., Fri., March 4, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, 1399 San Felipe Dr, Boulder City, NV 89005. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choosing in Richie's name, spend time with your families, find a passion and enjoy your life to the fullest.

Obituary : Robert “Bob” Nelson, age 92, of Spooner, WI passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Shell Lake Health Care Center.

Robert Eugene Nelson was born September 13, 1929, in Superior, WI the son of Stanley and Lona (Brandow) Nelson.  He grew up in Gordon, WI and at the age of 16, Bob would skip a study hall at the end of the day at Central High School, so he could learn how to fly above the woods where he hunted and the greatest of the great lakes that he fished.  Bob joined the U.S. Army on February 28, 1951, where he was stationed stateside during the Korean War and taught young fighter pilots how to maneuver every detail safely. After his honorable discharge on February 28, 1953, Bob’s piloting career was with Delta Airlines, based out of “ORD” in Chicago, where he earned a pair of captain wings.  This propelled side businesses that include resorts, game farms and a fly-in retreat in a remote part of Canada.   Bob retired to the part of the county he loved, Northwestern Wisconsin, where he grew up.  Flying was Bob’s greatest love, which was made obvious by the runway that ran alongside the home and the hangar filled with flight logs going back to his first recordings in 1945.  His hobbies centered around planes, rebuilding engines and many a craft from his favorite publication, Trade-A-Plane.  He loved travels with his wife, family adventures and getaways.   Flying in his seaplane he mastered landing on wavy surfaces, skimming electric lines and poles and pined treetops while crop dusting, cargo hauling or teaching future pilots how to fly, were his real lifetime passions.  He was a recipient of the prestigious Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award presented by FAA honoring more than half a century of continuous safe aircraft operations.  This was presented to him at an event in 2017 in Hayward, WI, not too far from Gordon where he was raised.

Bob is survived by his wife of 31 years, Elizabeth; daughters, Deb, Dianna and Suzanne, along with grandchildren, great grandchildren; Liz’s children, Sandra and Barry and her family; all who, like his friends, neighbors and colleagues, once sat alongside him in the cockpit or met him at a fly-in, truly enjoyed Bob’s company.

Bob was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathy; son Stanley; granddaughter, Jennie; great-granddaughter, Syndi; his parents, Stan and Lona; and mother of his children, Lee.

An interment service with military honors will be held at Gordon Memorial Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials would be appreciated to the Gordon-Wascott Historical Society where many of his family’s items are on display, including those from Nelson Bowling Alley, where Bob set wooden pins by hand as a kid.

In honor of Bob’s time on earth, whenever you hear an airplane flying overhead – look up and smile.  He always did.

Additional to being a Captain, he was a dedicated AirBus instructor pilot within the organization, which allowed him to assist in the training of future Delta Airlines pilots.

Inspiring those around him and helping whomever he could, his career is a testament to his willingness to teach. Even after retirement, he was pursuing an instructor pilot's license to continue this passion. "IP" wasn't just a nickname, that was Michael Daly to the core.

Those lucky enough to know Michael, understand the impact he had on everyone. There was absolutely nothing Mike wouldn't do for friends and family. Demanding personal accountability from himself and others, he elevated all to be the best versions of themselves they could be. Michael's ability to have fun, laugh, and live life to the fullest was contagious. He could make any moment a memorable experience. The void he leaves behind is simply immense.

In order to comply with Covid regulations and protocol, services and celebrations of life will be held in the early spring.      Captain David W. (Dave) Hall passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on Jan. 30, 2022 after a short bout with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving wife Veda and daughter Sherri. Throughout his adventure-filled life, Dave dutifully served his family, country, and airline.

Dave was the child of Dorris Washburn (“DW”) Hall and Ula Bee (Wright) Hall. He was born in Seattle, WA and grew up in LaGrande, Oregon. Dave was proceeded in birth by his brother Bill who passed away just a week before Dave. Seeking adventure at a young age, Dave worked for the Forest Service and Oregon Railroad during his teen years. He attended La Grande High School in Eastern Oregon where he played quarterback for the football team and served as senior class president.

In 1948 Dave entered Eastern Oregon State College (now Eastern Oregon University). Two year later he transferred to the University of Oregon where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business. While at the ‘U of O’ Dave met several life-long friends as a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity including Bob Wilkins, Roesch Fitzgerald and William and Bob Cary.

When duty called during the Korean War conflict, Dave enrolled in the Naval Aviation Cadet (NAVCAD) flight training at NAS Pensacola, FL. After earning his ‘wings of gold’, Dave opted to join the Marine Corps where he was selected for fighter pilot training. Dave served in both the VMFA-235 “Death Angels” and VMFA-323 “Death Rattlers” Squadrons. During his military career Dave flew a wide range of aircraft, including the FJ-2 Fury, the F-86 Sabre, and the F6F Hellcat.

August l0, 1957 Dave joined Northwest Airlines (NWA). After initial training in Minneapolis (MSP) he was assigned to the NWA base at Spokane (GEG) as a copilot. While flying copilot from the Spokane base Dave met his future wife Veda Hayes who was a stewardess (F/A) for NWA at the time. The couple were married on November 21, 1959, a bond that lasted 62-years.

During his NWA career Dave flew the DC-3, DC-4, DC-6, DC-7, Boeing 707 (720/320), the DC-10 and Boeing 747. After 33 years of service, Dave retired May 01, 1990, storing away his well-worn flight bag. During these 33-years with NWA Dave served and excelled as a Captain for 18 years.

In his off-duty time, and during retirement, Dave played golf, was an active jogger, and kept himself in exceptional physical condition. In his later years Dave enjoyed walking the picturesque Edmonds, WA waterfront. He was also a passionate reader of history, adventure, and war history books.

David Hall is survived by his wife Veda, sister Nancy, son Mark, daughter Sherri, granddaughter Isabella, and grandson Garrett.

A delightful fellow and skilled airman has passed from our midst.

This info was taken from Mike’s Lnkd page:  “I am currently a First Officer, flying the 737, for Delta Air lines. Previously I worked at SkyWest Airlines, where I served as both a First Officer and Captain. I also spent three years teaching the FTD and CTP courses for SkyWest in level D simulators while flying the line. To obtain my flight hours, for the airlines, I worked as a CFI, CFII and MEI for Utah Valley University’s flight department. I currently have 7800 flight hours.  I am also an avid runner and would race for money on weekends, with a marathon PR of 2 hours 22 minutes.”

And from his facebook page:  “Mike passed away tragically in an accident while traveling in Croatia……he was a great runner and a great friend. We'll always remember the legendary pile of melted gummy bears on the dashboard, the great conversations about setting goals, and the way he dropped the other teams on the last of 24 legs of the Redrock Relay. Keep running Mike! You will be greatly missed!”
