___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our Flown West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Contributor contact info is generally removed before posting (unless requested otherwise).

Read, Richard C. "Dick" age 61, of Lino Lakes -1977 grad of Irondale High School and former Delta Airlines pilot, took flight into divine life on December 23, 2021, at home amid his loving family and friends. A wonderfully bright light on this Earth went out that day, but now shines its warmth and beauty from heaven. Dick loved life and people, and they both loved him back. He radiated exceptional friendliness and a helpful hand to all he encountered - whether to total strangers or his family and friends, and was remembered as much by his kindness to others as by his size and stature. Dick loved anything motorized and was happiest when driving the roads, snowmobiling the trails, jet-skiing the waves, or flying among the clouds. He was also known for his calm demeanor and easy manner - unless driving behind slow or distracted drivers! He is surely missed by all who knew and loved him, including his father Richard (Joanne) Read, mother Sandra Burrill, siblings Renee (Rob) Stafford, Mike (Karen) Read, Suzanne (Jim) Schilling; and several nieces, nephews and step-siblings. A Celebration of Life will be held April 16, 2022 from 2:00-6:00 p.m. at the Sgt. John Rice VFW Post 6316, 1374 109th Ave NE, Blaine, MN 55434.

  1. Dick helped me buy my first new car. A 1989 Honda CRX SI. Black, for $11k. He bought a black Honda Accord. He had a really cool black Firebird he traded in for the Honda. He also took me flying in a Cessna over the Hudson River. Thanks for the great memories, Dick. RIP, until we meet again.
