Steve Skowronski, 71, passed away at home on
October 9, 2021. Steve was born on May 29, 1950 to Carolyn Ridley and Arthur
Cordeiro in Providence, Rhode Island where he lived his first year before
growing up in College Park, Georgia. He was raised by his mother and stepfather
Stanley Skowronski, and beloved grandmother Mae Stewart.
After graduating from College Park High School,
Steve attended the University of Georgia where he was a member of the Pi Kappa
Phi fraternity, joined the Air Force ROTC and earned his pilot’s license. He
held a bachelor’s degree in finance and later earned his MBA at Chapman
College.
Steve served 23 years with the Air Force and Air
National Guard, keeping the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was a fighter pilot
and flew the T-33, F-106 and the F-16. He also logged over 10,000 hours flying
the 727, 737, 757/767 and L-1011 and was a special qualified line check airman
for Delta Air Lines, a career spanning 25 years. After retiring from Delta,
Steve was an Aircrew Program Manager for the Delta MD-90 fleet for the FAA. He
was an active member of First Baptist Church Peachtree City and served several
terms as a deacon.
Steve loved boating on Jackson Lake, where he
taught many people how to water ski. He was a diehard Georgia Bulldogs fan who
regularly attended games between the hedges in Sanford Stadium. Steve was an
avid hunter who enjoyed spending mornings and evenings in the woods.
Steve will be lovingly remembered by his college
sweetheart and wife of 47 years, Cheryl; their children, Greg (Whitney), Kim
(Curtis) and Lauren; his brother, Mark (Wendy); as well as his extended family
and many friends. He was a proud Papa to two grandsons: Holder and George.
