USAF veteran, DL Capt. William McCoy Odom

November 27, 1952 ~ November 6, 2022

 


We have just received word that retired Delta pilot Captain William M. Odom, nearing his 70th birthday, has passed.  Captain Odom joined Delta Air Lines 11-21-1980.  He is survived by his wife Rosangela Carlin Odom, and by his children and stepchildren and their families.

Obituary : William McCoy Odom, 69, passed away peacefully with his family by his side in Newnan, GA on November 6, 2022, after a yearlong battle with cancer. He was born on November 27, 1952 in Mobile, AL to Marguerite McCoy Odom and James Thomas Odom.

Bill graduated from Auburn University in 1974 where he served as a War Eagle Plainsman, a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity and the ROTC.

After graduation, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force where he spent six years on active duty. He attended flight school at Laughlin AFB in Del Rio, TX, graduating in 1975. He was then stationed at March AFB in Riverside, CA as a KC-135 pilot until 1979. Later, he moved on to Ellsworth AFB in Rapid City, SD to finish his military career. Bill was honorably discharged as a Captain in 1980 and began his career as a commercial pilot for Delta Airlines. He retired as a 777 Captain in 2017.

Bill loved Auburn, aviation, traveling, friends, and family, especially spending precious time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Rosangela Carlin Odom; son, William McCoy Odom, Jr. (Nicole); daughter, Kelly Odom Fluharty (Thomas); Stepdaughters, Renata Marques Morrison (Dan) and Nathaly Marques Norman (Ryan); Granddaughters, Sloane Elise Odom, Parker McCoy Fluharty, Scout Kelsey Odom, Brett Hanley Fluharty and Olivia Marques Morrison and Grandson, Theo Marques Norman.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, James and Marguerite Odom.

Service will be held on Monday, November 14, 2022 at 11:00 am at Mowell Funeral, 200 Robinson Road, Peachtree City, GA 30269. A Celebration of Life will follow at The Georgia Shrimp Company, 100 N Peachtree Parkway, Peachtree City, GA 30269.
