Obituary : William G. Roessel, Jr.
William "Bill" G Roessel, Age 74 of
Harwich, MA, passed away on Tuesday January 24, 2023, at Cape Cod Hospital with
his family by his side. He leaves behind his wife of 41 years, Cindy Roessel,
his son Jonas Roessel of Boston, MA, and his niece Annah Nelson-Feeney of
Seattle, WA. Bill was born in Providence, RI on September 28th 1948 to the late
William and Zelma "Swirbul" Roessel.
After graduating from Bryant University, Bill
entered pilot training in the US Airforce. Upon completing pilot training in
the top of his class in '72 at Lackland Air Force Base, TX, he was commissioned
as a 2nd Lieutenant receiving his pilot wings. He then relocated to Westover
Airforce Base. It was there where he met his wife of 41 years, Cindy. After
leaving the Air Force, Bill began his civilian career as an airline pilot for
Delta Airlines, quickly demonstrating his excellence and skill and ascending to
Captain.
Bill and Cindy were married April 1981 and began
establishing roots in the Greater New England area, first settling in
Westfield, MA. In 1991, they adopted and welcomed their son Jonas into the
family. By 1994 they decided to relocate to Harwich, MA to be closer to Cindy's
family. Bill and Cindy constructed a home for themselves along with Cindy's
sister Pam Nelson and daughter Annah.
Although traveling extensively for work Bill was
still heavily involved in Jonas and Annah's childhood, from little league to
Halloween parties to violin concerts. He enjoyed many hobbies and was an active
member of the Cape Cod Corvette Club and an avid recreational sailor; he shared
these hobbies and more with his family and friends.
His legacy will be his selfless devotion to family
and unwavering support of those he loved. He will be deeply missed.
Services are still being planned and details will
be provided at a later date.
