___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our Flown West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Contributor contact info is generally removed before posting (unless requested otherwise).

Betty Hummel Knowles, 100, of Camarillo, passed away on December 6, 2022, just weeks shy of her 101st birthday. Betty was always both “elegant and eloquent” and those traits were still in abundance throughout her last days. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, an airline pilot with Western Airlines. Bob and Betty moved to Camarillo in the early 1960's and were members of Las Posas Country Club, where they enjoyed many friendships throughout their lives. Betty was part of the Pinkstaff family from Illinois, on her mother’s side, many members of the family having migrated “out west” around 1918 - some to Oregon and many to the Azusa Glendora area. Betty and her brother grew up playing in the orange groves, which made up much of Azusa prior to World War II. Betty was active in various Republican causes, especially in efforts on behalf of Ronald Reagan, both as Governor and President. She leaves behind a legacy of friendships - most remembering her love of her cat(s) - Puff - and her love of reading. A Celebration of Betty’s life will be held at her beloved club, Las Posas Country Club, on February 26, 2023 from 1-3pm.
