Notice of passing…retired Delta Air Lines pilot Captain Lee Ollie Taylor, Jr., age 87.  Captain Taylor joined Delta Air Lines 09-30-1963 and was based MSY, then DFW prior to his retiring.  He is survived by his wife Beverly, and by his daughter and his grand- and greatgrandchildren.

Obituary : Lee Ollie Taylor, Jr., 87, of Lake Charles, LA passed away at 8:02 PM on Friday, March 31, 2023 in his residence.

Mr. Taylor was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was born on December 13, 1935, in Overton, TX and was raised in west Texas where he was a graduate of Roscoe High School.  Following graduation, he moved to Lumberton, MS and attended the University of Southern Mississippi before joining the US Navy to serve as a pilot.  Upon being honorably discharged, he returned to Lumberton and worked as a commercial pilot with Delta Airlines for 33 years. He was an active member of Lumberton Methodist Church, serving terms as Chairman of the Board and as Trustee. For several years following retirement, Mr. Taylor worked as a driver for Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Gulfport, MS. In 2015, he and his wife moved to Lake Charles to be closer to family and became active members of First United Methodist Church.

 

Those left to cherish his memory are the love of his life and wife of 64 years, Beverly Byrd Taylor of Lake Charles, LA; daughter, Susan Taylor Hurt (John) of Lake Charles, LA; sister, Martha Taylor Miles of Wilmington, NC; grandchildren, Lee Alexander Taylor (Macayle) of Lumberton, MS, and Madeline Reese Hurt and Jack Harrison Hurt both of Lake Charles, LA; great grandchildren, Lee Coltson Taylor and Jake Wesley Taylor both of Lumberton, MS; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his son, Lee Alan Taylor; parents, Martha Carlton Taylor and Lee Ollie Taylor, Sr.; and sister, Dorothy Taylor Pinson.

 

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at Lumberton Methodist Church, 410 West 11th Ave., Lumberton, MS 39455.  Rev. Thomas Cumberland and Rev. Marilyn Perrine will officiate.  Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM.  Cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles.

 

The family asks that donations be made to the Lumberton Methodist Church, 410 West 11th Ave., Lumberton, MS 39455 or to St. Jude’s, stjude.org.
