___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our Flown West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Contributor contact info is generally removed before posting (unless requested otherwise).

DARREL GODSIL ASCHBACHER

The Prineville Legend

Born: June 2, 1936 in Prineville, Oregon.

To: Laurie and Jake Aschbacher.

Description: A feisty redhead with beautiful blue eyes that sparkled when he laughed.

Siblings: Older brother Ronald Jacob Aschbacher baby sister Donna Eleanore Christina

Aschbacher; and older sister and confidant Thelma Louise Slouber.

And the story begins…

He is very funny; it started when he was just a tyke and followed him through life until

the day he died - what a joy! We all participated. Laugher and high jinks from his fathers

Ochoco Creamery; the hay fields and cattle ranches of Prineville; and then on to the

University of Oregon football team; the1958 Rose Bowl; and the Philadelphia Eagles in

1959 where he roomed with John Madden.  Oh, he’s not done yet…

High school in Prineville is where he met his young, soon to be bride, Beverly

Aschbacher. They, with their two young children David and Darlene lived this journey

together.

He went on to fly his beloved airplanes with Delta Airlines from 1961 until he retired

(mandatory) at 60. And he just keeps keeping on… Based in Dallas Texas, after a stint

in New Orleans, brought a whole new world to the Aschbacher’s. And the fun just

continued… And yes, the awards and accolades have kept him entertained and

delighted.

Darrel Godsil Aschbacher, full of love, crazy beyond reproach, full of fun and has

impacted all that have been so lucky to call him family and friend. Even those who only

know him in passing. He’s unique and adored by all (most) unless crossed - be careful

and you know what I mean. Grouchy yes, but always charming. The smile and bellicose

laughter ending in a yodel is what it means to love Darrel.

Darrel is survived by his children, David Aschbacher (Valerie Aschbacher), Darlene

Aschbacher (Barry Neuberger); and Caren Cooke (Jean- Bernard Guerree); his

grandchildren, Nathan Aschbacher (Kate Aschbacher), Eva Guerree, Tess Guerree,

George and Jane Guerree; and great grandchildren Enzo Aschbacher, Carmen

Aschbacher.

Donations in memory of Darrel Godsil Aschbacher can be made to the Duck Athletic

Fund.
