USAF veteran, DL Capt. James “Jim” Robert Williams
July 5, 1934 ~ April 18, 2023
As was noted in a recent issue of the AIR LINE
PILOT magazine, the passing of retired Delta Air Lines pilot Captain James R.
Williams, age 88. Jim joined Delta Air
Lines 07-25-1960 and was based Miami and Atlanta. He is survived by his children and their

James Robert Williams “Jim” passed away on Tuesday
April 18, 2023 in Fort Myers FL. Jim was born in Rockford IL on July 5, 1934.
After graduating high school in Oregon IL he attended Utah State University
where he played football. He then studied pre-law at the University of
Illinois. In 1955 he completed pilot training in the United States Air Force
and served in the Military Air Transport Service for four years. In 1957 he
married his soul mate and love of his life, Ruth (Bond) Williams. Jim and Ruth
enjoyed 51 years of marriage until her passing in 2008. In 1960 Jim began his
34 year career with Delta Airlines. Jim’s life was centered on his family,
friends, and his Christian faith. He undertook many business ventures and
community projects. He loved traveling, boating, fishing, camping, and reading.
Jim will be deeply missed by his children Wendy
Williams, Scott Williams, Jeffery (Christine) Williams, Robert (Melissa)
Williams; grandchildren Alicia (William) Cook, Amy (Christopher) Gould, Michael
(Tiffany) Cook, Katie (Craig) Cook, Christina (Christopher) George, Kimberly
Smith; thirteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents Lyle
and Mary Williams; wife Ruth Williams; siblings Thomas Williams, Donold
Williams, Richard Williams, Jack Williams, Kathy Franzen.
